in a dropped waist black dress, black boots, chunky but not ridiculous nice scarf( not frumpy), short funky grey hair. Cross body bag.

I have lost it, if indeed I ever had it and look like a sag of spuds. Yes a sag of spuds. Just that.

My 13YO DD recently introduced me to TikTok and, far from being populated by teens, there are a lot of MA ladies on there who look amazing, especially Elisa Berrini Gomez. It's definitely not just a site for teens - she's inspired a lot of purchases for me over the past two months!

Thecobwebsarewinning · 10/11/2020 21:58

@randomer. They are more properly called harem style jumpsuits but MN labelled them flying squirrel. I bought a couple to wear around the house but in the end they were my staple choice for travelling last year. I was gutted when my favourite leopard print one got lost in the laundry in Cambodia but luckily at about £9 each it was replaceable!

@randomer l

Here’s leopard print flying squirrel on tour.

Just saw a 60 plus woman looking great.

@Thecobwebsarewinning, nice, good for you. You have lovely posture and your squirrel outfit looks funky.

Oh dear. I'd look like a lady exiting from a bathing machine circa 1913 if I wore that...

IrmaFayLear · 11/11/2020 09:45

I can just imagine those leg bits stuck round my knees cutting off circulation.

XingMing · 11/11/2020 21:29

Out of interest, why should 60 year old women not look interesting, even awesome? In my very very humble opinion, it suggests that YOU, whatever your age are dismissing all women aged 60+ as just more beige.

Without being confrontational, ODFOD.

We're not all grandmas, much less nanas. We retain our intelligence, and still have eyes and aesthetic instincts. I assume you are excluding your generation from this and not commenting on them. I could, but won't, other than to say that most are overweight/ fat or obese. My Mum (almost 86) looks like Olivia Palermo in comparison.

MinxyMay · 11/11/2020 21:47

Gawd Xing, get off your high horse, and try and contribute something positive, like the OP.

She was being quite self-effacing, a quality you would probably not recognise given your humourless post.

Where do these finger-wagging 'teller-offers' self-appointed officials on MN come from? They always take what people say out of context, or add one that never existed. They always speak with bad faith, always assume the very worst in people, people they've never even met. They really do poison MN.

XingMing · 11/11/2020 21:57

@MinxyMay, I was trying to be helpful. Maybe a concept not known in your circle? She asked. I commented. I am definitely opinionated on anything visual, because I know a great look when I see it. But I am not about to tell anyone, definitively, that THIS is how to achieve it.

XingMing · 11/11/2020 21:59

And, BTW, @MinxyMay, my comment was about ageism not appearances.

thistimelastweek · 11/11/2020 22:03

What's ODFOD?

MinxyMay · 11/11/2020 22:05

Xing helpful my ass. Your post was full of unpleasant assumptions about the OP and stating things she never said, now extended to me! I didn't see any positives in YOUR post though. Its a shame this thread, many threads on MN, was derailed by the Permanently Superior and Offended.

MinxyMay · 11/11/2020 22:06

PSO a good new acronym.

MonroeM · 11/11/2020 22:37

@LunaNorth

There’s a woman on our street that DH and I refer to as ‘Killing It Woman’, because whenever we see her out walking her dog she is just killing it.

Steel grey hair in a sort of wedge style, amazing clothes, tanned, signature red lipstick, excellent scarves...she’s even got a stylish dog, a little dachshund. I think she’s late 50s/early 60s.

We’ve both got a bit of a crush.

Out of all the negative posts on this thread this one made me smile a big smile and I get it! Some women just have the knack of getting it right without seeming to try very hard.

I am still sometimes surprised when I see comments from younger people who think anyone late 50's and onwards is old. It was considered to be so when life expectancy was much less than today.

A friend told me of a lady in her town who is mid 70's and totters around on very high shoes and wears leopard print leggings and little leather jackets. She can dress however she wants ok but sometimes trying to look younger just does not work.

Abitbored · 11/11/2020 23:04

I saw a lady in the till queue in front of me at the supermarket, a while back. She was dressed nicely in a dark grey coat and her hair was steel grey with soft deep pink highlights. It looked fantastic. I wanted to say so, but didn't dare. Wish I had.

Amen to that!
Janegrey333 · 12/11/2020 00:25

@thistimelastweek

What's ODFOD?
Very rude and used by people who are rattled.
Janegrey333 · 12/11/2020 00:30

The PSO is on the French dressing - as in “pieces” of clothing - thread where they are generally vair vair earnest.

thedevilinablackdress · 12/11/2020 07:32

Maybe the 70+ woman mentioned above (in the leather jacket and heels) isn't trying to look younger...maybe she's just wearing what she likes?

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 12/11/2020 07:56

Surely the point being made is that the OP could have titled the thread 'Just saw a woman looking great', and there was no need to put her age in, just like she wouldn't have put a 20 plus, or a 30 plus, woman.

randomer · 12/11/2020 07:58

Out of interest, why would you assume such utter nonsense @XingMing?

How on earth is one comment on one person linked to dismissing all women over 60 as lesser beings and beige?

Try this for size......I saw a man in his 20's wearing a great suit and a silk tie.

Oh no....clearly I have issues with age, men, colour blah blah blah. Could probably slip gender and race in there too if we look hard enough.

OP posts:
Floisme · 12/11/2020 08:27

That's an interesting worldview upthread: getting angry and swearing are 'very rude' but dissing posters on a completely unrelated thread is perfectly acceptable.

Anyway moving on, why do you think some posters have got annoyed?

Imissmoominmama · 12/11/2020 08:33

There’s a woman who lives on my street who dresses exactly as you described. Her hair is pixie cut but iron grey. She’s probably under 5’ and is very slim. She is in her 70s, has big, chunky rimmed glasses, and looks like a tiny punk. I love her style!!

ShortSilence · 12/11/2020 09:29

I don’t get why people think the OP is ageist :/

I interpreted the OP as mentioning the woman’s age because we do not, in general, see or hear enough about women looking fantastic after the age of thirty. Not because she herself was surprised an older woman could look good.

Some of us in midlife, especially if we have internalised some of the culture’s ageist nonsense despite our best efforts, actively enjoy seeing stylish older women being specifically noticed and pointed out.

IdblowJonSnow · 12/11/2020 09:33

Why the need to comment on this woman's age at all?
Surely it's no surprise that people of all ages can look great?
