How many coats do we think she has?

I'm a fan of CPV but her style has gone decidedly 70s and not in a good way of late!

banivani · 15/11/2020 15:37

Words were said about the monochromes, words were said. Wink Equal justice for all I say. (I’m not a fan of the chequered trouser suits either, I can admire the commitment to A Look though)

SenecaFallsRedux · 15/11/2020 16:50

Thanks for the kind words, y'all.

I just read an article about how David Emanuel consulted with the costume designers on the production of Diana's wedding dress for The Crown. In a couple of hours, I'm going to brew a pot of Earl Grey, fill up a tray with assorted scones from my favorite bakery, and settle down for the duration. Crown

Going back to a previous comment and speculation that H&M are expecting again - I think would be brilliant if they just didn’t announce it at all (a la Cheryl Cole).

I don’t think they really have any obligation to now and while it would obviously become apparent pretty soon, I think it would fly in the face of their so-called ‘attention seeking’.

Not that it would make the press any nicer to them I’m sure, but it’s what I’d be tempted to do if I was them.

mrscampbellblackagain · 15/11/2020 18:18

The crown is soooo good and the fashion is amazing.

MotherofPearl · 15/11/2020 19:06

I totally agree Hairy.

frugalkitty · 15/11/2020 20:20

I'm into season 2 now and one detail that's struck me but I haven't managed to confirm is that it looks like the Queen's wedding ring is a platinum band, but in real life it's gold. Now I can't remember which episode it was that I first noticed and I haven't seen another close up.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 15/11/2020 21:15

A bit of quick Googling tells me that HMQ's engagement ring is platinum with diamonds, made from a tiara Princess Alice was given on her wedding day by Tsar Nicholas II & Tsarina Alexandra.

That gives me the nice shivers just imagining wearing a ring with that history. I love old jewellery well any jewellery with a story behind it.

HMQ's wedding ring is gold made from a Welsh 24 carat gold nugget that has also been used for other royal wedding rings.

Imagine being married for 73 years!! What an attractive couple. I can definitely see Philip in Harry.

DoC has posted a video to thank those who participated in her Hold Still project. Not sure how to post a video but here's a link to NMR, plus a still, showing the top half of her outfit. Apparently she wore this red Zara blazer to the 2012 Olympics.

I didn’t know the queens wedding and engagement bands are different metals. That’s really unusual isn’t it? (Or am I showing my ignorance?)

paradyning · 15/11/2020 21:53

There's some great ring info here.

Started Googling when I saw Princess Anne's ring in episode 1. Attention to detail in the Crown is amazing. They had it spot on.

Eaumyword · 15/11/2020 22:02

Rings - always my favourite part of these threads!
I love HMQ ring - it hasn't dated at all, maybe the white metal and let's face it, diamonds that large never go out of fashion!
I love Kate's red jacket and her big swishy blow dry. Her hair looks a little lighter?

Horsemad · 15/11/2020 22:05

I like HMQ's and Sophie's rings.

MotherofPearl · 15/11/2020 22:19

Whenever we talk rings on here I always think of poor Princess Marie and the abominable unfortunate ring she's saddled with.

HMQ's is timeless and beautiful.

Mmmm... not the most stylish ring. I like Sophie's. Also Princess Anne's the first time around.

That's what I love about this thread all the photos & knowledge & of course the people too!

Going back to the ring article, just realised who a young Princess Alice reminded me of - Sarah in her engagement photo with Andrew.
It is we often end up with people with a family resemblance even though consciously we are not looking for it, something to do with the subconscious feeling safe with familiarity etc.

The engagement photo of Diana & Charles, I think that Charles looks really happy even happier than Diana. He looks like he can't believe how lucky he is to have such a beautiful & lovely wife to be & also quite excited & a bit star struck.
I guess both C & D started out with good intentions but I think they believed in too many fairytales......
Diana really needed a male version of Camilla (as in personality)

Eaumyword · 15/11/2020 22:39

Oh wow, I'm enjoying the revival coloured stones are having, but that one is...😱
I actually like Anne's second cabochon ring and love the hue of Eugenie's.
Top pick for me is still HMQ. Sophie's is really nice too.

MadameMiggeldy · 15/11/2020 22:47

@MotherofPearl Grin

It’s quite the adornment

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 15/11/2020 22:47

Although it includes rings previously mentioned this article also includes other European royalty engagement rings plus the Duchess of Windsor

Horsemad · 15/11/2020 22:54

I thought that too Tracy about C&D's pic. I really love the photo of William & Kate, they both look very in love, which, let's face it is how you should look when you're engaged! 😆

Eaumyword · 15/11/2020 23:13

Grace Kelly's ring is stunning, just like she was. I think she had a more modest ruby band to represent the Monaco colours, then got this corker and it appeared in her film High Society IIRC.

MotherofPearl · 16/11/2020 06:46

Thanks for posting that link Tracy. I absolutely love Wallis Simpson's enormous emerald. Got to be my favourite ever. Though I agree that Grace Kelly's is also amazing.

frugalkitty · 16/11/2020 08:01

Yes, Grace was originally given an eternity style ring with a row each of rubies and diamonds to represent Monaco's national colours. This was quickly replaced by the massive diamond ring which she swapped out with the copy filming High Society (without telling anyone) so the close up in the film is her actual ring. But, the original engagement photos taken in Philadelphia show the ruby and diamond ring.

Given the attention to detail in The Crown, I am wondering if I'm seeing things thinking the Q's wedding ring isn't gold in it. It does seem unusual to have different metals, although Diana's ring and Sophie's aren't gold bands like their wedding rings are.
