How many coats do we think she has?

I think Kate nearly always looks great, but she really needs to sort her heavy eye makeup.

I think QEs wedding dress was paid for with rationing coupons?

MaudTheInvincible · 08/11/2020 17:01

Liked Kate's hat, and her overall silhouette, but agree that the epaulettes were a step too far. More of a problem for me were the white flecks on the Queen's coat, which looked like crumbs. Had she been eating sarnies in the car?!

Some stunning pictures from Japan here:

Interesting photos but in this day & age it's completely wrong that Naruhito's daughter Princess Aiko is not the heir to The Chrysanthemum Throne just because she's not a male.

@EastonSarah

I imagine there's a team with a database/spreadsheet *@Maireas* 🤣

But oh to have a big, beautiful coat collection with the best of the high street and some made to measure designer pieces.

I imagine even "the best of the high street" is tailored to fit her.

mrscampbellblackagain · 09/11/2020 05:01

I thought kate looked great from a distance but not keen on the fringing! I wonder if she has upped the eye make up even more because of the mask wearing, I am finding I am putting on a bit more myself.

Kate's clothes do always fit her beautifully. And I really would like a rummage in Camilla's jewellery box

banivani · 09/11/2020 08:19

I'm not a fan of this quasi-military style either. It's a good-looking coat, but I don't like this costumey aspect of it.

I think Princess Elizabeth (as she was) received masses of clothing coupons to help with her wedding dress, as people in general were so happy for her - and looking forward to something to celebrate. But as coupons couldn't be transferred, they were all returned.
MotherofPearl · 09/11/2020 20:13

I agree Banivani. It's bordering on fancy dress and not in a good way.

I just fell down a Queen Alexandra worm hole and found some pictures for a Bath costume museum exhibition. All the women are teeny tiny.

New exhibition of royal costumes opens in Bath www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-42929796

And then this! Look at the waist! Look at the bling!

Great picture! She needs some S&B advice though - it looks as if she couldn't choose between her jewellery, so thought she'd just wear it all!
Such a tiny waist- I'm guessing strong corsetry/stays.

AppleKatie · 09/11/2020 22:31

Yes that has got an ‘I’m moving house and I don’t trust the removal men so I will just wear it all!’ Vibe about it doesn’t it?

Eaumyword · 09/11/2020 22:36
Grin More was definitely more! And why not, if I had access to all that bling, I'd wear it all at once like a toddler too! In all seriousness, I wonder if that was the done thing in those days, to literally display your wealth and status, whereas now less is definitely more.
AdaColeman · 09/11/2020 23:57

Alexandra was a true style setter in her day, not only because of her love of tiaras, but especially for dog collar choker style necklaces which she favoured in order to cover a childhood scar on her neck.

In the above photo Alexandra is wearing her wedding parure, unusually, the tiara and the necklaces & brooches are not in matching designs.

When Alexandra, died the tiara was inherited by Princess Victoria and eventually broken down and sold, but the rest of the set became Queen Mary’s, who gave it to her daughter in law Elizabeth.

Elizabeth, then the Duchess of York, loved the set, wearing parts of it throughout her life. She wore Alexandra’s pearl and diamond necklace
(the chunky one with huge pearls at the centre of the large rosettes in the photo) at her daughter Elizabeth’s wedding day in 1947. At the Queen Mother’s death, the set passed to Queen Elizabeth, who often wears the earrings.

More recently, Kate has occasionally worn Alexandra’s pearl and diamond necklace.

Gooseysgirl · 10/11/2020 00:18

Not a fan of Kate's coat at all. Nips tassels last year, shoulder tasked this year... step away from the tassels Kate!

paradyning · 10/11/2020 06:45

Thanks Ada that's so interesting! Wonder where the stars went.

frugalkitty · 10/11/2020 07:54

I found some fab pictures on IG last night, hopefully they'll all show up!

With a list of who they are apart from the last three which I've managed to chop off, sorry Blush

Loving the bridal pics. ❤️
My fave is Diana, followed by Sophie Wessex although there are lots of others I like too! 😁

LadyEloise · 10/11/2020 09:40

Thank you frugalkitty

AppleKatie · 10/11/2020 10:32

Lovely wedding pictures. There’s a lot of smiles not reaching the eyes there though.

The queen stands out a mile in the first collage because she’s so happy!

Horsemad · 10/11/2020 10:44

She definitely does @AppleKatie! 😁

LadyEloise · 10/11/2020 12:13

I agree AppleKatie. It struck me too. She is so happy.

I wonder did some of the brides in the older weddings know they would have to accept their husbands wouldn't be faithful and would have mistresses ? That theirs was a marriage of convenience ?

I love the simplicity Sarah Chatto's dress and headpiece.
Marie Chantal of Greece was a bit ott for my taste.
I don't like Serena Linley's styled hair. It dominates the view iykwim.
I love Diana's fairytale creation.
Megan's is beautiful too.

SenecaFallsRedux · 10/11/2020 13:25

My favorites are Sarah Chatto's and Meghan's. I also like Katharine Worsley's (Duchess of Kent); it's very much of its time, but is still lovely, especially the neckline.
