Show me what you wear to be warm and cosy when WFH

I'm sitting in my home office with the heating on but am still quite chilly. I'd love to be snuggled up in some sort of mega fluffy fleece coat. I have plenty of warm fleeces but when I sit down they ride up at the back and my lower back gets cold. I have a Bench fleece that goes down to mid thigh but it's not very thick.

Has anyone come across something really warm and comfy that covers your lower back/bottom, that you can put on top of a jumper when WFH with no video calls?

I just put my dressing gown over the top of whatever I'm wearing

Coffeepot72 · 13/10/2020 07:27

Where do you lot live - the North Pole??

I add a layer or two (a vest or gilet) and if that fails I put the heating on!

TheOrigRights · 13/10/2020 08:14

@Lndnmummy

Anyone else just putting the heating on?
Me - we'll sort of. I have an office in the garden. It's double glazed and off the ground etc, but it's still a wooden structure and loses heat quickly. But it heats up quickly, too. I have a heater in there and don't hold back in using it. I was never warm enough in shared offices and I hated it. The cost is offset by not using fuel to commute. I hate being all bundled up when I work. I've worked from home for years ie not a Covid thing.

@JacobReesMogadishu

I have a knock off Oodie from Amazon, Cost £22 It's very warm.

You made me do it ....😆

Worst is that DH an I are in the same room - he hates the heat and lighting on - so it’s a constant battle to find the middle ground.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 13/10/2020 10:58

I just had a look at oodies but there’s none in stock until December! I think I’m going to order the amazon one

HasaDigaEebowai · 13/10/2020 11:12

You need an electric heated blanket. I love mine. My house is cold and it allows me to be warm without heatign the whole house

Coffeepot72 · 13/10/2020 11:57

@FenellaMaxwell where do you buy your longer length jumpers? I'm looking for a few more but haven't had much luck?

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 13/10/2020 12:03

I make sure my feet are very warm, and wear sheepskin boot style slippers - like Ugg but not Ugg.

And a warm hoodie, and soft trousers that are not tight. Tight clothes don't keep you warm because there is no room for a layer of insulating warm air, I think.

It's important to keep your neck warm, too.

SweetAlmondOil · 13/10/2020 12:28

@MrsPresley

And heat a large house just to warm up the home office

But you said in your Op that the heatings on?
So why not turn it up a wee bit? Confused

The heating is on in the home office - an oil-filled radiator. But every time me or OH open the door to the hallway for one reason or another, the temperature drops again.

@Coffeepot72 George at Asda, Primark, M&S and I just ordered this one from amazon - Urban Classics Women's Ladies Wrapped Sweater Sweatshirt www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DQ25RV9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_VszHFbRV7Z5NF?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

SweetAlmondOil · 13/10/2020 13:30

@FenellaMaxwell Will it be warm though? It doesn't look it. I tend to use fleeces for warmth. Hence why I ordered that knock-off oodie thing someone posted a link to here yesterday. Hopefully that will work.

Thermal vest and very thick socks are a game changer.

I have a fleece and woollen blanket wrapped around me up to my waist and am going to buy some turtledove wrist warmers.

A big scarf makes a difference too, I take it off for Teams meetings.

The upstairs radiators are jammed on so can't just heat downstairs unfortunately.

silentpool · 13/10/2020 13:39

I put a blanket under me and one on top of me. Thermals and fluffy slipper socks. No one sees me so I don't have to look professional.

FenellaMaxwell · 13/10/2020 14:38

@SweetAlmondOil I layer. I find that much warmer than just one massive layer. So I might wear a vest top and a long sleeved t shirt. Have a look at the uniqlo heattech range.

SweetAlmondOil · 13/10/2020 15:40

I layer too @FenellaMaxwell - but I need my lower back to be warm...

I just put my fleece hooded dressing gown on over a jumper when I am cold. I also have several M&S black thermal tops, turtle doves and sheepskin slippers. And a portable heater and hot water bottle on standby!

cultkid · 13/10/2020 15:46

I wear pants and lay on my bed
The house is hot
My office was not
Turn on the heating
I can't believe people are wrapping up at home

Emmapeeler2 · 13/10/2020 15:50

DH won't turn the heating up just for the office. Maybe one degree at pre-agreed times. My DM's house on the other hand, I'd be in pants.

FreeButtonBee · 13/10/2020 15:53

Socks (any sort)
Celtic & Co sheepskin boots (most important thing)
High rise leggings - they don't need to be thick but do need to go past your belly button.
merino wool cycling top - it is nice and long and doesn't ride up so there is a good overlap between the high rise leggings and the top so no cold gap
fleece/cashmere/merino wool jumper on top - not restrictive but cosy and comfy.

I also have an enormous merino wool (spot a theme!) wrap from TK Maxx that gets wrapped around me when it's particularly chilly.

TheOrigRights · 13/10/2020 15:55

I presume all you oodie wearers aren't required to be visible on Zoom?!

I can be pretty casual at work, but got caught out today. I was in my 'active wear' as I was going out on my bike. I don't need to wear a bra and just had a base layer on ie boobs pretty obvious tiny as they are

I had to make sure the webcam was aimed no lower than my shouders.

The trick here is to wear a smart silk or chiffon scarf and have the camera close and from the neck up only. Sorted.
PontiacBandit · 13/10/2020 16:04

I've stocked up on cosy clothing now I'm WfH. My fav top is very unfashionable but super warm, a teddy bear fleece hoodie, only for inside the house. I have bought a lot of fluffy socks, some warm loungewear and some fingerless gloves.
I have a heated throw in my Amazon basket but I don't think I'll need it now.

I am but I'm past caring. 😁

Emmapeeler2 · 13/10/2020 16:52

I have just googled teddy bear fleece hoodie and I want one!
