I've been trying hard to use up products, especially as I've found some good ones that I Should stick with, but gwp are so tempting ... trying not to go for Space NK/ Feel Unique /Cult Beauty as although I'd like to try a couple of the products , I don't really need to ...

Finished a mini Paula's Choice azelaic acid booster. Not convinced it had an impact, can't say my skin felt any better for it. Have another to use so maybe more effects from continuing use.

justilou1 · 03/11/2020 00:02

One Daiso puff and sponge cleanser. This stuff is gold. I keep this on rotation too. Best makeup brush cleanser ever. Ever. Cheap as dirt.
Two ModelCo Xtendlash Mascaras binned as old and gluggy - Tubing mascaras that would survive a cyclone, I’m sure. Also staple daily items. I have never paid full price for this. I keep one in my bag and one in my bathroom. This is from a supermarket here, and it’s better than the Kevin Aucoin tubing one that is $70 here! This is normally $17, but is always on special. Today it’s $10.20 and I don’t mind buying two more for that.

  • I mentioned before that I’m not crazy about sheet masks. I have a heap of them to my daughters a while ago, and kept the high-end ones. I still have 27! That’s crazy!!! I did one last night because it’s hot and humid here. They’re just slimy to me. Am I missing something?
TeatimeAtCloppa · 03/11/2020 06:36

@CherryMargo Thank you so much.xx I wish I could come fully to terms with it but I doubt I will. ALTHOUGH...my job is working with severely disadvantaged and disenfranchised people, many of whom struggle with things like hygiene, so I think it helped give me empathy and skills I might not otherwise have had.

Empties...This Works Night Moisturiser. Very relaxing scent as you would imagine from This Works. I enjoyed using it but won't repurchase as I think I prefer those kinds of lavender scents on my pillow rather than my face. But still, it was something a little different.

TeatimeAtCloppa · 03/11/2020 06:40

@justilou1 I always think face masks are cold and drippy and slimy BUT once I get past the annoyance of slithering it on my face and getting it in place, I love the feeling of just lying back and knowing I'm doing something good for my skin. I got the Selfridges Face Mask set and loved looking through it. There is something that feels quite indulgent about a face mask.

justilou1 · 03/11/2020 10:25

Thanks @Teatime - but do they actually DO anything?

beautyboxaddict · 03/11/2020 10:26

Loving seeing how much everyone is getting through.

I love a sheet mask. I love them so much I have over 80 of them in my stash. That includes eye and lip masks and the Selfridges collection @TeatimeAtCloppa mentioned which is just beautiful.

I do use at least a couple a week and I like them because I have to lie down and relax for 20 minutes when I have one on

TeatimeAtCloppa · 03/11/2020 11:51

Beautyboxaddict I love that set. It's so beautiful. I bought another one to send to my friend.

Justilou I THINK they have an effect...I remember reading that, for the high end face masks, it is like one week's worth of serum on your face. I have the little Foreo gadget as well which cuts out the sliminess of face masks and takes about ninety seconds. I use the Foreo app with it and the whole thing is really pleasant and relaxing.

WellTidy · 03/11/2020 12:18

beautybox I originally thought 'wow', thats a huge amount' when you said that you had over 80 sheet masks in your stash. But if they're not just full face, and you use a couple a week, that's less than a year's worth. Which, in the context of our accepted stashes, is absolutely nothing, is it. I have at least five years' worth of body cream, and that is applying a generous amount, all over, twice or three times a week.

AsPerMyLastEmail · 03/11/2020 12:51

I mentioned on the advent calendar thread a few weeks ago I think that I bought the Selfridges mask collection and adore it. I use the box to stash other masks. I’m fairly new to sheet masks but love then.

AprilLady · 03/11/2020 15:41

I’m on the fence on sheet masks. I do rather enjoy using them, and will happily use any I receive in GWPs and advent calendars. But I’m not convinced they do very much, so can’t see myself paying full RRP to get them.

AsPerMyLastEmail · 03/11/2020 16:05

Apart from the Selfridges sheet mask collection, which is great value imo, I've also never bought sheet mags and only get them from GWPS and advent calendars. That way, they're a treat as I agree they're generally too expensive otherwise.

However, game-changer for me was last week: I used the Seoulista Beauty Rosy Glow Primer from the Selfridges collection before going out and it was a revelation. Left my skin glowing, dewy and even and looking great in photos. Definitely buying that one.

Caggie09 · 03/11/2020 16:08

I like a sheet mask. Even if it's not doing very much for my skin, its just nice to relax with it on. My favourite one's are the Garnier one's!

AprilLady · 03/11/2020 17:18

AsPerMyLastEmail, that is interesting. It doesn’t seem to be that expensive (£5.50 a mask), so tempted to try it when my current stash is reduced somewhat.

justilou1 · 03/11/2020 20:38

Thanks ladies! I’ll make an effort with my sheet masks!

CherryMargo · 03/11/2020 22:45

Empty no. 53 🚮 SVR DENSITIUM Bi-Serum (2 x 0.3 ml; GWP).

The serum is designed for women who are 50+ years old, and all the reviews I have seen so far are either 4 or 5 stars, so I was very excited to try this sample. The sachet was divided into two parts – a transparent gel and bright orange oil – which, in compliance with the instructions, I mixed and warmed in my hands before application.

It didn’t play nicely with my undereye peptide cream – where the serum and cream got mixed, my skin went extremely red and tingly. Both products weren’t expired and didn’t contain any nasties, so I’m still not sure what could cause such a bad chemical reaction between the two. The sachet was enough for just one (and quite messy) application – the gel was very runny, and went everywhere as I squeezed it out. I wish the sample was bigger so I could properly test it.

A total number of products left in the face oil / serum category: 1 foil sachet, 6 deluxe samples and 6 full-size products.

@BookSkark I’m still working through the Space NK Party Favours GWP which I got from a similar deal last year. Welcome to the replacement-only no-buy ‘club’! 🤝

@WellTidy one hundred empties sounds AMAZING! 🤩

@justilou1 I heard many words of praise towards the Daiso cleanser from Hailey O'Bryen, a YouTuber from Melbourne. I wish they sold it in the UK! I saw it on Amazon UK, but people in the reviews section complained that the bottles arrived either opened or half-empty 😟 So my current brush and sponge cleanser is by beautyblender.

@AsPerMyLastEmail the Seoulista mask sounds very interesting, I will definitely grab one during my Black Friday haul! 🛒

justilou1 · 04/11/2020 04:37

@CherryMargo - do you watch Beauty News? I love those two ladies!!! They’re great!!! I can’t wait until they get together IRL and get back to doing Makeup Breakup again. They’re hilarious!!!

Experiment627 · 04/11/2020 09:48

@TeatimeAtCloppa my heart goes out to you. And I am not surprised the past still haunts you. You are one strong lady. 😘😘😘

@WellTidy are overnight masks ever that? Everything would get messy!!!

I need to check out the Hygiene Bank!

Good on you @justilou1 - and so wonderful that your involvement made a difference.

Welcome onboard @AprilLady !!!

My stash has got somewhat out of hand again... just going to have a sort through and and see if anymore of it can go to SIL in her stocking!!!

I have some empties:

  • Childs Farm watermelon and organic pineapple hair & body wash: this was for Kwicklet but I used up more quickly as a handwash as I am not a fan of the smell
  • Body Shop Fuji green tea shower gel: LOVE this smell
  • Simple moisturising facial wash: found this drying in the face so used up cleaning my bits 😳
  • Revolution hydration boost: very lightweight - so fine for summer but I need more umph now we are in autumn
  • Girlz Only dry shampoo: my quest for a dry shampoo that actually reduces my oily roots rather than adding to the situation continues - this is being passed on as nearly full

Another batch of empties. Really ready to start on the calendars, plus the two Elemis sets I’ve just ordered, but I’ve hardly bought any skincare this year, and have really reduced my stash

WellTidy · 04/11/2020 11:40

Costa what did you think of that REN perfect canvas? I had a full size bottle of it (advent calendar 2018) and I didn’t find that it made any difference to me. I used it as a primer. It has put me off REN items. I’ve had shower gels and body creams by them too, as well as their evercalm moisturiser, but I don’t feel that any of them do anything for me.

Costacoffeeplease · 04/11/2020 12:14

I didn’t think it did much either, I’ve put the last of it in with my moisturiser just to use it up

WellTidy · 04/11/2020 12:28

That’s reassuring, thanks

Pomegranatespompom · 04/11/2020 13:10

@TeatimeAtCloppa I am so sorry for your experience. I was pondering joining this thread (due to GWP/advent excess!). Your post made me feel quite emotional, really heartbreaking that people can’t afford these basics. Enjoy your lovely products now and I hope some of the feelings you described have resolved to some extent.

I just purchased the Elemis set from
QVC 😳 will I get kicked off this thread after 1 post?!

Pomegranatespompom · 04/11/2020 13:12

@WellTidy I had that Ren item too - totally useless !
