I liked the Glycolic toner they had, used a few body bits in the past too which i enjoyed. They had a dupe for Sol De Janeiros Bum Bum cream a few years ago, which i loved! They also done a pink clay face scrub, which i liked. I think it depends what your after! Ive never really tried their makeup so i couldnt say for that! Its cheap enough to give ago though i suppose!

Morning everyone. A few empties to start the week.

Elemis Peptide 4 Eye Cream (full size) - I still haven't found my HG eye cream, but this one is up there so I might repurchase if I don't find anything better by the time I've worked through my stash.

Darphin Stimulskin Plus Reshaping Serum (sample) - meh. Couldn't see any obvious impact, but then it didn't last very long.

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer (sample) - I'm not a huge fan of this because I'm too lazy! Having to wet my hair, apply the product, then wait 10-20 minutes and then wash it is just too much faff. Much prefer a leave-in conditioner.

Polaar Icy Magic Eye Cream (full size) - this might have been nice, but it was one of those that you apply with a roller. And I suspect due to age, the roller didn't really apply any product, so I either had to press really hard on my eye (which didn't feel like something you should be doing!) or roll it on to my hand and then apply. So probably my fault, but not a repurchase.

Oskia Renaissance Mask (sample) - I'm not generally a fan of masks (see the laziness comment above!) but this one wasn't too bad. I've got another sample one to work through, but not something I'd repurchase simply because I don't tend to use them.

Do any eye creams actually do anything? I use them but nothing helps with my dark circles, I don’t believe anything actually will as I’m sure it’s just where my skin is thin under there so there are less layers covering veins/blood or whatever! I don’t have concerns around fine lines or anything, I am pretty sure only something like fillers will plump the skin out enough to create a distance between the top layer of my skin and the darkness underneath and I’m never going to do that Grin
Happy to be corrected - I just don’t believe in any of it!

ememem84 · 08/02/2021 11:22

mitchum deodorant finished. staple for me.

Oh good, I thought it was just me. I'm just hoping that it's an investment for the future, as it doesn't seem to be doing much right now!
ememem84 · 08/02/2021 21:20

I’m never sure re eye cream. But I still use it religiously.

Using an eye mask/eye odd currently from soap and glory. Quite nice.

Last one of these in the stash though

justilou1 · 09/02/2021 08:01

I’ve never felt the need for separate eye creams until recently. I’m turning 49 this year and I’m suddenly seeing a lot of erosion.

Caggie09 · 09/02/2021 09:29

I ended up purchasing Cults GWPBlush Ive ordered a few bits, but looking foward to the Satin pillowcase and the lip balm box they done for £20!Blush

To outway the damage, empties!

Sunday Riley Ice face cream. Wow, this is my HG!! Thick, moisturing and skin looks and feels fab when i use this. The scent is like Almonds, which i quite like. I have 2 other pots to use up, but using a few minis up first. My dry skin loves this, and its perfect for my skin!

Body Shop Drops of Youth. Used in my AM routine aa my hydrating serum. It done the job, lovely texture and didnt break me out. I wouldnt RP though!

DE Beste jelly cleanser sachet. Trying to use up all the sachets i have, its very satistfying using them up! But this sample doesnt make me want to buy a FS!

@TheChosenTwo the Superdrug haul is set to arrive on Thursday - so if that is true it will have taken a week. I wish Boots and Superdrug would sort out their deliveries... I am defo blaiming how they organise the dispatch rather than the delivery speed itself.

On the subject of eye cream: I think it makes sense to have a different product for this delicate area. Some day creams etc do not have the right consistency plus if having one in your repertoire reminds you to apply then so much the better. I still on the search for a HG one however would highly recommend The Inkey List retinol eye cream as well as the Cerave one.

I have a load of empties to share - did not manage to get on here last week to report:

  • Windle & Moodie invisible day and night cream: metal tube split so I used up as a hair mask. Really did not like the smell. Hair was quite soft after using as a mask...
  • Weleda Arnica recuperating bath milk: from H&B advent. LOVED this! Gorgeous smell and really did feel restorative.
  • Superdrug Me+ niacinamide & zinc booster: really liked this until I started using The Inkey List one... which I think is way better!
  • Clinique take the day off: got this as I know this is a cult product for many... really unimpressed. Nice enough cleansing balm but there are plenty just as good out there that are cheaper and with better "credentials"
  • Garnier Ultimate Blends intense repairer balm: took me ages to use up this hair mask. Has castor oil and maple sap in it so I thought this might be a good combo... ok but nothing to write home about
  • Stella soft body milk: not that great - ie does not really smell of the perfume and not that great a body milk
  • OGX Apple cider vinegar hair rinse: this is the second out of 3 stages... I ended up using as a shampoo as who has time for THREE steps?????
  • The Body Shop oils of life intensively revatilising facial oil: not a fan of the smell but has helped protect my face from artic weather! That said I am now using one that came on the H&B advent which feels way nicer!
-Vitaskin vitamin C lifting eye cream: this was from the H&B advent too. Nice enough to use. Metal tube did not split - yay! Slightly too glunky - so too a while to sink in.

Thanks to those that recommended the Simple light moisturiser - I am really liking it, also really liking the Superdrug vitamin E one with SPF.

im working on the basis that if i start using eye cream now i'll be ok for future ageing. . .

TheChosenTwo · 09/02/2021 15:19

I get why some people use eye creams to target wrinkles or dehydration, but my problem is dark circles - I don’t think any cream or serum in the world can thicken skin despite their claims! I mean, I have eye creams so I use them but there’s nothing topical that can be done for dark circles.

AprilLady · 09/02/2021 18:04

I’m 50ish, so wrinkles etc are a concern. I don’t specially buy eye serums or eye creams, but I do have quite a few from Advent Calendars, GWPs, collections etc. For the past 3 or 4 months I have been trying to up my game, and have used both an eye serum and eye cream every morning and evening. I do think the area around my eyes looks brighter, smoother and more hydrated. But it hasn’t miraculously made my dark circles disappear or made me look 10 years younger.

AprilLady · 09/02/2021 18:09

@Caggie09, I thought the Cult Beauty lip edit looked really good. I’ve been using the Sol de Janeiro lip balm (it was in the F&M calendar) and really like it.

Ponks · 09/02/2021 22:38

I've been trying a lot of eye creams over the last couple of years, triumph of hope over experience mainly, but my favourites are Estée Lauder Advanced Night Eye, Fresh Black Tea eye cream and I think Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair. I like quite a thick soothing cream but really nothing will help the wrinkles that continue to develop.

Anyhoo, some empties:

  • wahey have actually completely finished an eyeshadow! Now that doesn't happen very often. A single No7 eyeshadow in a basic cream colour, have been using it for years as a base. I really like No7, they have very few dud products.
  • Superfacialist retinol anti aging day cream , didn't like this much as a moisturiser (slightly too gel-like for me), have been using it up on my neck and prefer it to my Prai neck cream.
  • Weleda pomegranate hand cream. Meh. But I like the metal packaging.

No purchases this year yet. Trying to use up the Lumene stuff from my advent calendar but every now and then I use my normal moisturiser (No7, who would have guessed), and I much prefer it, so at least I'm learning that different isn't always better!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 09/02/2021 23:02

I've thrown out an old Boots 17 lipgloss and a Bourjourse smokey eye trio which had both gone a bit manky.

I'm looking for a nice warm toned pallet as these are the coloues that suit me most, then I will declutter the neons etc I never wear!

justilou1 · 10/02/2021 07:20

@LivingDeadGirlUK if you can get your paws on this... www.narscosmetics.co.uk/en/st-germain-des-pres-eyeshadow-palette/0194251006079.html, it might be what you’re looking for. This is what I would consider breaking my no-buy for. I think it’s bloody perfect. I searched it the other day (we can do that here in Aus...) and it’s something very special!!!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 10/02/2021 07:27

Can I just say in defence of superdrug, its really not fair to compare them to Amazon. They arent set up with national distribution hubs, they pick orders from their stores and are doing what they can to stay afloat at the moment. They offer same day click and collect which if its an emergency is really handy, but they never intended to be Amazon and we have already lost so many high street staples it would be sad to see them go!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 10/02/2021 07:29

@justilou1 thats beautiful! Very tempted, is Nars nice quality?

AprilLady · 10/02/2021 07:41

@justilou1, that palette is lovely! @LivingDeadGirlUK, I have a Nars palette I use regularly and I do think the quality is good. Easy to use and blend and lasts well.

ememem84 · 10/02/2021 08:03

@justilou1 oh that’s a lovely pallet. I am tempted. But I do not need another one.

justilou1 · 10/02/2021 09:07

Nars eyeshadows are the best! They last for years and are a dream to work with! Will link the Aussie reviews for this palette when I get home.

justilou1 · 10/02/2021 09:35

Too new here for reviews but here are USA ones
www.narscosmetics.com/USA/st-germain-des-prés-eyeshadow-palette/0194251006079.html

ememem84 · 10/02/2021 10:07

oh i want it now.

ive never used Nars but when i've finished all my urban decay ones and my bare minerals one i'm absolutely buying it. . . .

justilou1 · 10/02/2021 10:23

I feel like a drug pusher saying this, but.... It’s limited edition. I’m still regretting the Atomic Blonde one I didn’t buy.
