Going to keep tally of in's and out's this year.

So far 7 out, 0 in! (Its only the 3rd of Jan thoughWink)

Pack of 3 Christian Breton eye masks. Umcomfy under my eye, cooling effect doesnt last too long either. But, i do find it's part of my relaxing part of the evening. Got the Pixi ones to crack on with next👍

Rituals magic touch body cream sachet. Ohh, the scent on this is beautiful. Lovely light fresh scent. I dont need any more body products, but will keep in mind for when running low..

Jane Scrivner acid toner sample x2, didnt get much use out of them to form an opninion!

ememem84 · 03/01/2021 20:08

Clarins 15 ml sos hydra mask. From advent calender.

Nice. Not sure if it’s actually doing what it said it would....

LivingDeadGirlUK · 03/01/2021 21:15

So over 2021 I want to run everything down, I'm proposing a No Spend Unless Out Of year. This is because I've opened a few things last year that were well past their best because I'd been hoarding them for so long, and its ruined the enjoyment of what are actually quite expensive products.

I've just listed a few bits from last years advent calendar that I've not used yet on ebay.

I've also got rid of most of my nail varnish, I discovered gel nails and am not going back.

ememem84 · 04/01/2021 09:01

out - 30ml clarins hand and nail cream is going to dsis. its an advent calendar one, but she's giving me a bag of stuff - some beauty stuff. so we're switching.

BookShark · 04/01/2021 09:27

Starting the year with an empty Molton Brown body lotion - nice enough, but not something I'd buy for myself.

I've now updated my spreadsheet with my Christmas/birthday/advent calendar additions, and I'm starting the year with 171 products (excluding make-up, so just skin and hair care). Like others, my 2021 resolution is to only repurchase when I've run out of something, so hoping to make a reasonable dent in that stash over the course of the year.

And currently sitting on my hands to stop myself buying something from Space NK just to get the birthday freebies - I don't need them!!

Costacoffeeplease · 04/01/2021 12:40

More calendar empties, all fine, nothing exceptional though

Happy New Year everyone!!!!

@WellTidy DON'T GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about your skin flare up but great that you have found something that is ok. Do you have a day cream in there? I am desperado to find one that actually is nice to use!

My stash has gone down and then way up in 2020... but I feel justified in that the information I now garner from trying new products helps feed the You Tube channel I started in November. So, for example, I have got a gazillion The Inkey List products in my stash - but that is fine as I can then make a video all about them.

I do not really have a specific goals for 2021 - except that I want to feel joy. So if using beauty products gives me that, I will continue to be an addict.

I have some empties:

  • Urban Vela Reviving Renewal Night Cream: @Costacoffeeplease I think you said you liked this... I really did NOT! Goes to show how everyone is different. I found it drying and not nice to apply.
  • Josh Wood drak brown instant root concealer spray: this was ok but leaves a residue which I hate as it makes me feel my hair is not clean. The Loreal one is way better.
  • Revolution Beauty CBD nourishing essence spray: hmmm... this was ok but I did not feel it was very nourishing and the smell - well now it will always remind me of lockdown and spraying it on and then on my son - he always giggled.
  • Aquaphor lip repair: I tried this after watching a review video by Jen Luvs and it is amazing!!! Had to get through Amazon as not available through Boots - but the Eucerin one is and I think it is a dupe (well in results, price just about the same). Anyhoo this gets awarded HOLY GRAIL status - it goes on well, has no nasty taste and actually helps my lips out. Fabulous!!!!

Please please please share with me your day cream recommendations - I have no less than 3 open at the moment and I don't like any of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Costacoffeeplease · 04/01/2021 13:06

That’s interesting, I really liked the consistency and the way it sank in, I would re-purchase. It’s a shame it didn’t suit you @Experiment627

WellTidy · 04/01/2021 13:24

@Experiment627 yes - aquaphor for lips is my HG too!! I always recommend it when I see threads asking for lip balm recommendations. I have tried loads and I rate it above everything else. And so cheap! It sorts my lips out almost immediately.

I also think that the L’Oréal root spray is the best I’ve tried. I abandoned the Josh Wood after using it only once as my hair felt so dirty. I have a few Loreal ones in now. Had my roots done on December 15th, but they’ll need touching up by the end of Jan, and I don’t think salons will be open here (south east). So I will be ploughing through the L’Oréal.

Day creams - I have gone back to Estée Lauder Day Wear, this time there one for Normal/combination skin. I always used to wear the Day Wear for dry skin, but I think I am now better suited to the normal/combi one, which is the one that is always in GWP. I think the full name is multi protection ant oxidant 24 hours. It’s the original day wear, anyway. Comes in a pot, 50ml. I think it’s about £45. Not to be confused with other Estée Lauder day wear products. I wore only EL everything for about 15 years and then fancied a change and also felt that I was missing out on so many new, younger brands. But my skin isn’t thanking me for constantly switching and the improvement I’ve seen by just using my trusted EL products for nearly a week now is absolutely amazing. I am going to stick with them for a month and then try including a glycolic toner to see if that improves things even more.

I’ve tried so many day creams in recent years. But I am clearly in the wrong job and should be on the EL counter as a saleswoman, because the day wear is the dogs.

ememem84 · 04/01/2021 13:54

i use clarins day moisturiser with spf (the pink one), or clinique (the green one).

both work well for me.

Experiment627 · 04/01/2021 14:24

Thanks @WellTidy and @ememem84 for the recommendations!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 04/01/2021 19:11

I dont think any expensive day cream has been noticably better than the Simple Protect spf 15 i usually fall back on.

Ponks · 04/01/2021 23:23

Best day cream recommendation from me is Boots No7 Protect & Perfect , I just love it. I've tried a lot of others in 2021but keep coming back to it. Problem is I'm now a bit overwhelmed with moisturisers and it will take months to work through them, even with my DH helping out now and then.

So I'm planning a quiet no / low spend first quarter of the year at least. Looking forward to reducing the stash a bit.

Couple of empties:

  • Farmacy Green Clean cleansing balm - quite nice, melts very quickly and gets rid of makeup well. Expensive compared with my preferred balm cleanser (M&S pure rose balm) so won't repurchase.

-Prai neck cream (night version). I like this and have a replacement ready to go, but am going to wait and use up some of my other moisturisers on my neck first.

I've also bit the bullet and chucked out a few makeup bits that I was never going to use (bright red No7 lipstick, Nars lip pencil from a beauty box, old mini Nars Orgasm blusher) and finally binned the lovely No7 Lash Extender mascara I used all last year - I know you're only supposed to use a mascara for 3 months but this went on and on and on...

Makeup aim for 2021 - finish the cream eyeshadow I've used almost daily for I don't know how long, plus finish a lipstick. Hardly ever wear lipstick these days, it feels so strange!

Experiment627 · 05/01/2021 05:50

Thanks for the recommendations @LivingDeadGirlUK and @Ponks

Morning ladies! I have three more empties!!

  • Imperial Leather foamburst foam gel to foam body wash jasmine & rice milk: I used to buy a Japanese spa scent body wash and loved the smell - I thought this might be similar but not quite. Anyhoo it is nice for shaving - not that I do much of that these days 🤭
  • CBD soothing bath bomb: I really appreciated that this had no dye or glitter in it to stain the bath that said I was not so keen that it was covered in plastic plus it was supposed to smell of lavender but I got nada. I did have a lovely bath though.
  • Emma Hardie protect and prime spf 30: yuk, yuk, yuk!!!! Fekking hard to get out of tube, then when leaked in mouth taste was awful and did not feel good on skin. Ended using it up on body.

I am going to be filming my first ever empties video today!!!!!!!!!!!! Feels like a rite of passage!!!!!!

ememem84 · 05/01/2021 14:35

body shop winter jasmine hand cream has been used up. hoorah! 30ml. won't repurchase as have about a million others to get through. all full size now though i think.

CherryMargo · 05/01/2021 23:27

I’m sorry to see you go, @WellTidy, but also very happy for you reaching the end of this journey! 👏 One day I’ll be there, too!

My first facial skincare empty of 2021 is a deluxe sample of GLAMGLOW INSTAMUD 60-Second Pore-Refining Treatment (10 ml; GWP). It did nothing and is just a gimmick like other GLAMGLOW products IMHO.

A total number of products left in the face mask category: 2 deluxe samples, 2 full-size products, 16 sheet masks and 45 nose strips.

BookShark · 06/01/2021 15:19

Three more empties from me.

Omorovicza illuminating moisturiser (full size) - smelt lovely (even DS commented on it) but I wasn't too keen apart from that. Seemed to make my skin a bit more red than normal which isn't really what I was after!

Charlotte Rhys body lotion (travel size) - another one taken from a hotel. My New Year's resolution is definitely too stop doing this as I really don't need them! Probably made easier by the fact we won't be travelling anyway...

Ren Neroli and Grapefruit body wash (full size) - nice enough, but didn't feel as luxury as I wanted given the price.

So the stash is gradually reducing - 168 products to go...

Frankinmachine · 06/01/2021 15:30

Following this thread as I’ve had a recent sort through and clear out.

How long do you think unopened products such as moisturiser and foundation last for? Some products, once started can last me for about a year. I was guessing that can keep for 1-2 years before being opened ?

MackemLass79 · 06/01/2021 17:05

Very small travel size cath kidston hand cream gone which I got from calendar this yr. Working thru loads of products at min but all full size so will take some time well done everyone else on the empties. @Frankinmachine I only start worrying about products going out of date once opened and even then mainly only eye products unless I get any skin reaction. Some of my unopened items I've yet to get to have been there for yrs

CherryMargo · 06/01/2021 18:11

@Frankinmachine unopened moisturisers and liquid foundations usually have a shelf life of 36 months, all you need is to find out their manufacture date. I use the following websites to help me with it:

  1. m.checkcosmetic.net/
  2. www.checkfresh.com/
CherryMargo · 06/01/2021 18:19

My first makeup empty of 2021 is a sample of NARS Blush in Orgasm (1 g; feelunique’s Pick & Mix). TBH I think its real weight was only 0.1 g, because it took me 8-10 applications to use it up.

I really wanted to love it since it’s a cult product but… it had one flaw – too much golden glitter which migrated around my face and overpowered the subtle beauty of this blusher’s peachy-pink colour. I'm very glad I could get my hands on the sample, and didn’t waste money on a full-size item!

A total number of products left in the blusher category: 2 full-size products.

Frankinmachine · 06/01/2021 18:38

Thanks @CherryMargo. Interesting site. Says that products stored in shops near a light may be ruined if the product is hot. I’ve noticed recently that when I buy a product from, for example Estée Lauder in Boots or Department Store, the product always feels hot as the display units have so many lights.

MackemLass79 · 06/01/2021 19:03

Superdrug own brand dry shampoo finished in coconut kiss fragrance. Nice pleasant smell but dont think the dry shampoo does much as my hor gets oily very quick and have to wash it every day if im leaving the house. Still looking for that holy grail in dry shampoo I have a few I like but havent found that perfect one yet
