Is my new dress really that bad?

I've been eyeing this dress up for ages but it was £50 so never purchased, I bagged it in the sale yesterday for £22. I love it, I've got black heeled sock boots that can dress it up a little, black ankle boots (optional tights) for casual wear. Can wear it with, without a belt. With or without a denim jacket. Might even get away with trainers. It seemed really versatile. I'm mid twenties and a size 8 if that matters.

Anyway my dickhead husband hates it and has ruined it for me. Says it looks like it belongs to a grandad. I feel a bit sad because of how long I've wanted it.

Opinions?

I like it!

nevernotstruggling · 07/09/2020 20:59

I like it. I'd wear it with tights and chunky boots. I'm 41!

Natsel84 · 07/09/2020 21:01

I really like it .

WoodenFox · 07/09/2020 21:01

Looks way better on you than on the model in the first pic you posted!

Buggedandconfused · 07/09/2020 21:05

I want to like it I really do, I like the style and fabric a lot, but it just reminds me of a pantomime costume. Sorry 😐

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 07/09/2020 21:09

I am no longer neutral on the dress.

Commedia dell'arte is what springs to mind ...

Sorry, OP.

NavyBerry · 07/09/2020 21:11

It is really cool! I'm with you OP! Do you have some biggish boots to wear with it? Or not so thick tights?
Colour block + shirt style are very trendy now. Good choice

Namechangearoo · 07/09/2020 21:16

Oh I hated it on the first photo you posted and didn’t want to say. But I think it looks great on you!

blisstwins · 07/09/2020 21:16

You look better than the model. I love it.

ReeseWitherfork · 07/09/2020 21:17

Love it! Showed DH and he said “yeah it’s alright” which is a GLOWING review. Glad your DH liked it. I like with that belt actually, wouldn’t change.

WhatTimeIsItl · 07/09/2020 21:20

I really like it

Whatelsecanipossiblydo · 07/09/2020 21:25

I don’t like it and wouldn’t wear it but that doesn’t mean you couldn’t pull it off and make it look great. Wear whatever you like and sod what anyone else thinks.

Whatelsecanipossiblydo · 07/09/2020 21:27

Sorry, just saw your post with the picture of you in it. You absolutely do pull it off. You wear it better than the model does.

Pinkshrimp · 07/09/2020 21:28

I don't want to walk down the street feeling like everyone is thinking^^ wtf is she wearing

I Would just think, even on the model, it looks like she’s forgotten to put her jeans on this morning.

excelledyourself · 07/09/2020 21:29

You look great, OP.

Although, I do agree with you that that isn't quite the right belt.

Regularsizedrudy · 07/09/2020 21:31

I really like it

athousandstrawberrylollys · 07/09/2020 21:31

I love it!

Q1w2e3 · 07/09/2020 21:33

You look way better than the model! I really like it on you.

Fink · 07/09/2020 21:34

It doesn't look great on the model, looks much better on you, even better with a different belt and probably leggings ass it is very short. The weird coloured sleeve puts me off a lot, but if you like it then that's what matters. I wouldn't look twice at you if you walked past me in that, for either positive or negative reasons.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 07/09/2020 21:36

I liked it at first and like it even more on you OP.

hastingsmua1 · 07/09/2020 21:38

I’m 23 and absolutely wouldn’t wear it. I would have scrolled right past it. Nasty gal has better stuff.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the concept of a shirt dress and have worn a plain white one with a belt. I wouldn’t wear it with tights and ankle boots though, it’s either a casual summer outfit with trainers or a night out outfit with heeled sandals or knee boots. If I saw you in that outfit, I wouldn’t think we were the same age.

The print itself could be pulled off if styled correctly. You probably do need a better belt. I have a few from luxury designers and they uplift a basic outfit, even if you find designer logos garish. If you won’t wear it as a dress without tights, it would look better as a shirt tucked into light wash jeans.

Flibbitygibbit · 07/09/2020 21:40

That will get reduced to £7.50 if you hold on long enough 🤷‍♀️

Standrewsschool · 07/09/2020 21:43

Love it on you. Better than the model. The belt really transforms it.

Motherwell91 · 07/09/2020 21:43

I love it! any chance we can get a link?.

Tiffbiff · 07/09/2020 21:49

Looks great! Definitely keep it! Perfect for autumnal days!
