Hair... Can this be saved?

Had my hair done today, lightened from dark brown/dark red dye done at a salon ore lockdown and dyed red. Colour i have is ginger. Ive attached a photo showinf what i have vs what ive got.

I did the polite british thing of not saying anything and paying and leaving, but have now sent a message to the salon saying i wasnt happy with it. Said i should have said at the time but wasnt sure if it just needed getting used to as it was so different. But its not what i wanted.

Was considering just getting a box dye to put on top but then reminded myself that i paid £200 (!) To have this done so surely the salon should fix it??

Its awful isnt it...

OP for me personally it's beautiful. I love red hair, all shades of it.

But what matters is that you aren't happy and it's not what you wanted. I would ask the salon to rectify it and explain that you were that taken aback at the time, that you couldn't express what you really felt. They should want to fix this, especially considering the price you paid.

If you ask nicely it should be fine. Please note though that red fades a lot, so it may well end up looking not like the original shade you are after soon after they fix it.

I loved having red hair, but stopped dying it because of the fading and the cost of the upkeep. So jealous of natural redheads.

Fidgety31 · 20/07/2020 00:29

Your hair doesn’t look ginger to me .
I have naturally ginger hair and I wouldnt say it is awful .

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 00:32

I appreciate that itll fade, but to me it already looks faded? Like i can see the blondness of the bleach coming throigh pretty clearly. I have bought the red shampoo and conditioner that they recommended so am prepared for some fading.

It doesnt look like the photo does it? Not sure if im going crazy or not.

I know nothing wrong with ginger, its a beautiful colour, but i was really looking dor something with a darker cherry tone.

I feel like the hairdresser knew he had messed up... He finished the straighteninf really rushed, and although he had asked me if he could take before and after pics, he made no mention of wanting an after pic once it was done...

It's definitely not like the picture in the right. If that's what you showed them and asked for then they of course should correct it to that shade. Yours is much paler than the deep red you wanted, I do agree.

JimmyGrimble · 20/07/2020 00:43

It’s certainly not ginger. More of a bright pinky red shade and it will fade like a total bastard very quickly. I would go back. What you wanted seems to be more of a burgundy colour.

Zoey92 · 20/07/2020 00:55

Yes this can be saved.
I would definitely go back & just be straight.
"This is what i asked for...this is what i got"
& for £200 I'd of expected you to get that to be honest because What you asked for was easily achievable.

GrimDamnFanjo · 20/07/2020 02:35

Did you discuss the shade with the hairdresser beforehand?
If they thought they couldn't match this darker red shade I would have expected them to say so.
Red is quite a difficult shade to get abc manage but I agree - that colour us not the same as the photo!

1forAll74 · 20/07/2020 02:38

It's not ginger, and not awful, but if you go out in the bright sunlight and look at it,it will be quite bright and quite stunning.

ElizabethMainwaring · 20/07/2020 03:01

Donkey's years ago I dyed my hair pillar box red. It looks similar to that.
You are right, it does look faded already.
It doesn't look professionally done.
It doesn't look awful at all, but like you, I wouldn't be satisfied.
I'd be inclined to dye it myself, but I always dye my own hair.
Wait a couple of weeks and see how you feel then.

Loveinatimeofcovid · 20/07/2020 03:16

I would insist they either fixed it or have me my money back. If they refused I’d sue.

PatricksRum · 20/07/2020 03:21

It certainly doesn't look the same.

But the lady in the picture has a darker skin tone than you, I'm always wary of trying to achieve hair colours in pictures if their skin tone is completely different.
If they did achieve that colour it would look completely different on you.

ElizabethMainwaring · 20/07/2020 04:20

Yes. I'd ask for my money back too.
QueenOfPain · 20/07/2020 05:06

I think you need a darker root stretch and something like Directions in Rubine.

QueenOfPain · 20/07/2020 05:07

There hasn’t been enough pigment put back in it after the bleaching, so that’s why it looks pale and washed out.

fuzzymoon · 20/07/2020 06:17

It looks like one of those solid colour funky dies you can buy it's not at all like the picture.
I would definitely ask them to fix it.

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 06:18

When i showed the hairdresser the photo he said ths colour would be very achievable. So wasnt concerned at that point that it would be difficult.

Agree that it looks like something i could have done at home, not something you pay a lot of money for.

Lets see what the salon say...

OP posts:
ElizabethMainwaring · 20/07/2020 08:46

The colour that you wanted is very achievable, I've been dying my hair variations of that colour for nearly 30 years.
It definitely went wrong and the salon should be able to accept that.
What was the hairdresser's response at the time?
Hope that you get some joy with them.

Pancakeorcrepe · 20/07/2020 08:51

What processes did they do to your hair? Was it bleaching and then colour?
I love red hair, ginger hair etc but I do think the colour you have is not nice at all. I would be unhappy. It doesn’t look like a statement colour or natural colour, so it just looks really odd and certainly not like a £200 job!!

Pancakeorcrepe · 20/07/2020 08:52

And it looks nothing like the picture! It’s a completely different shade and tone.

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 09:39

The process was pre lightening which im guessing is bleach, then an olaplex treatment, then the colour.

Salom didnt say anything at the time but neither did i. Im kicking myself now.

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 09:43

Hardly slept last night as i just feel a bit sick with annoyance at myself. Why im i such a wet blanket that i just smiled said thank you and walked out of the salon with this. I knew at the time that it wasnt right i was just trying to convince myself that i was just over reacting.

Im dreading the salong coming back to me and saying well i paid and left so they arent going to do anything.

OP posts:
PMTRex · 20/07/2020 09:44

It looks nothing like the colour in the picture.

If the hairdresser wasn't going to be able to achieve what you'd asked for he should have told you at the start.

I'd definitely go back and speak to them to get it corrected.

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 09:47

Ive sent them a message on instagram which is how i initially contacted them. Not sure when they'll see it though.

No point in phoning as from being there yesterday, they have no time to lengthy phonecalls, and im super awkward on the phone anyway.

What will they be able to do to fix it? Want to have reasonable expectations. Im worried theyll say its had too much processing in a short time and not want to colour it again. Can the even just put more colour on top of this?

OP posts:
Onekidnoclue · 20/07/2020 09:55

Well done for getting in contact. Situations like that make me so uncomfortable and being appearance related makes it harder I think!
They can fix it and should. Some colour treatments like bleach are tough on hair but a block red colour is fine. Your hair will be fine to have another load chucked on top. If they say it’s not good for it that’s nonsense and tell them to whack on another treatment like olaplex to help. They should fix their mistake.

For what it’s worth I think it looks lovely but that doesn’t change the fact it’s not what you wanted or paid for.
