Hair... Can this be saved?

Had my hair done today, lightened from dark brown/dark red dye done at a salon ore lockdown and dyed red. Colour i have is ginger. Ive attached a photo showinf what i have vs what ive got.

I did the polite british thing of not saying anything and paying and leaving, but have now sent a message to the salon saying i wasnt happy with it. Said i should have said at the time but wasnt sure if it just needed getting used to as it was so different. But its not what i wanted.

Was considering just getting a box dye to put on top but then reminded myself that i paid £200 (!) To have this done so surely the salon should fix it??

Its awful isnt it...

Yes theres been no mention of paying and if they do suggest it i will need to man up and say that i had assumed it was to correct the treatment i had already paid for. Im planning on doing a breezy 'thank you, bye!' And just going once its done...

Yes OP. Colour resistant hair is definitely a thing. My hair is a pain and mine would not ever even take the red dye ! We've always had to leave bleaches on longer than usual which is not ideal.

However, your stylist should have checked the hair before rinsing off the dye so it's no excuse.

I once got my money back from a really bad hair job, the stylist started the bleach from and inch down and then used something far too strong which frazzled the rest. And I asked for a coral tint, which refused to take so I was left with stripey zebra blonde hair. Hmm

Ratbum · 20/07/2020 18:37

Picture shows a plum red, your result is an entirely different shade/pallet. You're not going nuts, they're not remotely similar. If you didn't feel you could say anything at the time, that's understandable as the difference is so significant.

Ask them politely to rectify it or refund the money, and suggest taking a friend along to bolster your confidence.

DanceItOut · 20/07/2020 18:40

I absolutely would not be happy paying £200 for that. I’ve done better dye jobs on myself with tubs of la riche directions fashion colours. I hope they fix it for you. It is absolutely fixable especially as you want it darker not lighter.

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 18:43

Unfortunately with the whole covid situation taking along a friend is not possible. I will make sure to stand my ground if any cost is mentioned to them. I need to remember that this additional appointment is to get the result that i have already paid for.

Only possibility i can think of as to how theyve gone so wrong is that when i went in for the consultation, the stylost mentioned that the visors were making the colours look slightly different?

What also didnt help was that my consoltation was with a totally different stylist, who then left the salon between then and my appointment. She took a cut of my hair to test before my appointment which im guessing never got done...

Im slightly dreading the awkwardness of going back in and facing the same stylist again, but i need to get over that and remember that im not being awkward by asking for what i originally wanted.

As you know the colour you have now is nothing like the colour you asked for m.

Mrsbunn · 20/07/2020 19:57

I've had red colour on my hair in the past and the hairdresser has never pre lightened, my natural colour is a mousy brown. Ended up using shop dyes in the end as cheaper and great colour. Schwarkopf or olia were the two I preferred.

ChavvySexPond · 20/07/2020 20:01

I'd be unhappy about paying £200 for that. It doesn't look professionally done. And isn't what you paid for.

I’ve been where you are! Having paid £200 for a colour that’s nothing like the photo you showed the colourist at the start I’m quite sure they won’t expect you to pay any more - I certainly haven’t when I’ve gone back in the same situation. Stand your ground, get it the colour you asked and paid for and don’t pay any more -£200 is a LOT to start with and you’re entitled to a proper job!

Karwomannghia · 20/07/2020 20:22

Nice but agreed it’s not what you wanted. Best all round to have it redone. Looking forward to pics.

TimeWastingButFun · 20/07/2020 20:25

It does look as though the colour hasn't taken properly. I'd go back.

BurtsBeesKnees · 20/07/2020 20:35

It does look like it's already faded, the colour isn't as vibrant and rich as the picture

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 21:28

What do i say if they try and charge me again? Ill feel better if i have a nice polute but firm response ready just in case!

Are your u related to the model?
Did you use the exact same hairdresser and dye as the model?
Did you have your photograph taken by a professional, and photoshopped after?

Then why do you expect exactly the same result?

There is nothing wrong in what you received. As unless you can say yes to all the above, your result is going to be completely different.

Surely when you had the patch test done, you saw what you'd get?

Sorry, but apart from the wiggly white lines all over your face, it's fine.

Just think you're a mug for paying £200 for a hair cut n dye. Then again, you did expect to come out of the hairdresser's looking the same as the model.

IloveBeefJerky · 20/07/2020 21:35

I don't think it looks great. It looks cheap to me.

They should fix it. Don't box dye it.

Tabymac · 20/07/2020 21:39

What colour line did the salon use? That’s a Guy Tang colour, he has the formula for that on Instagram.

GlamGiraffe · 20/07/2020 21:49

You shouldnt expect to pay. You are going there to get the result you originally went in for and still havent received. Hairdressers font charge for correcting their mistakes (not that I've ever encountered or heard of). If the ask tell them that's the reason you are there and firmly refuse. Make a loud commotion about the rubbish job. Given theyve promptly emailed you and given you a quick appointment to come back in for rectification I really doubtvl they'll try to charge you.

Roominmyhouse · 20/07/2020 21:56

Did you look at a colour chart with the hairdresser? I don’t know what brand they used but when I look at your hair you look like the 8/45 on this Wella chart, but the picture you wanted it to look like it’s more like the 66/46. Darker and cooler in tone.

As I said before it’s just the wrong depth and tone and they should be able to easily fix this. But make sure you see a colour chart and are clear on what you want to see. If it wasn’t possible they should have told you from the start, but as you now need to go slightly darker it shouldn’t be an issue. Personally I would ask them to do some strand tests to get the right colour before they do anything, but that will mean you’d need to wait for the correction. They absolutely should not charge you to fix this (ex-hairdresser btw).

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 22:32

I didnt look at any colour chart, not sure what range they used.

I just showed the guy the photo, he said it would be very achievable and went to start mixing the lightening stuff. He seemed so confident that he knew what i wanted that i just trusted him i suppose.

Pancakeorcrepe · 20/07/2020 23:02

@MacBlank I’m sorry? Are you the actual hairdresser who did this botched job? Only that could explain your post! The colour is completely wrong and not what OP asked for and showed the hairdresser with PICTURES. And it’s well far off! It’s not even similar! It’s not some small variance that could be explained by her skin tone or natural hair tone. The colour she wanted to achieve is also not technically difficult to achieve so there is no excuse.

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 23:23

I thought pictures were a normal thing to bring in to show the hairdresser? I also had a different picture of the cut that i wanted, which he said wasnt great for my hair but could do a version of it, so he was able to manage my expectations and tell me if something wouldnt work in other situations.

I really hope the hairdresser isnt arsey or offended with me, im dreading a tense atmosphere!

@ScottishStottie - re Weds if they’ve suggested you come back in to rectify it, I’d reply confirming you’re happy to do that but also confirm that given you have already paid £200 you assume they will be covering the cost of this, not you. Far better to clarify this upfront and in advance of the Weds appt.

Mnhealth202020 · 21/07/2020 01:32

From the sounds of their responses I don’t think they will charge you - they apologised so know you’re returning because you weren’t happy, not because you changed your mind. They’ve squeezed you in fairly quickly too, I assume that most hair dressers are full booked at the moment, which suggests they see you as a priority due to the complaint

Mnhealth202020 · 21/07/2020 01:41

I don’t think your hair looks awful, but it’s a different shade/tone from the photo. I also think the model photo might have a shadow root (slightly darker shade at the root) which you don’t have either. Her hair seems dimensional whereas yours looks a bit flat.

Most of the time salons give you their colour book as a visual guide when choosing colours as you can see the swatches. This has been the case every time I’ve been somewhere new or had a new colour as part of the consultation.
