Hair... Can this be saved?

Had my hair done today, lightened from dark brown/dark red dye done at a salon ore lockdown and dyed red. Colour i have is ginger. Ive attached a photo showinf what i have vs what ive got.

I did the polite british thing of not saying anything and paying and leaving, but have now sent a message to the salon saying i wasnt happy with it. Said i should have said at the time but wasnt sure if it just needed getting used to as it was so different. But its not what i wanted.

Was considering just getting a box dye to put on top but then reminded myself that i paid £200 (!) To have this done so surely the salon should fix it??

Its awful isnt it...

They are correcting it so won’t charge. Someone who isn’t aware might offer to take your payment - say “I already paid on (day) I was invited back by the manager (or by you if it’s the manager) as the colour didn’t take properly.” If you are going to be sitting there worried about it I suggest asking before you go “before I come in, can I clarify I won’t be charged a 2nd time to correct the colour?” (I have done similar). You sound lovely OP, I hope they are great with you on Weds.
I personally love your hair and prefer it to the pic but it’s it’s not the colour you asked for. Please send us the updated one!

CuppaZa · 21/07/2020 04:21

It’s not what you asked for, so no, I wouldn’t be happy. However, you really do have to say something at the time.

Whatthebloodyell · 21/07/2020 08:52

MacBlank huh? You’re not serious?

BalletShoe · 21/07/2020 09:11

@MacBlank

Are your u related to the model? Did you use the exact same hairdresser and dye as the model? Did you have your photograph taken by a professional, and photoshopped after?

Then why do you expect exactly the same result?

There is nothing wrong in what you received. As unless you can say yes to all the above, your result is going to be completely different.

Surely when you had the patch test done, you saw what you'd get?

Sorry, but apart from the wiggly white lines all over your face, it's fine.

Just think you're a mug for paying £200 for a hair cut n dye. Then again, you did expect to come out of the hairdresser's looking the same as the model.

This is nonsense.

A qualified colourist should be able to look at what a person wants and their hair type and work around that.

The OP didn't ask to become a carbon copy of the model - but she did ask for a dark, red toned hair colour - not a bright, primary red.

It sounds like they've gone for colour correction on your hair to get rid of the dark red before putting the new colour on. It is very difficult to get dark colours to take properly on bleached hair - it becomes very porous and doesn't hold the colour as well. This might be why yours has turned out alot brighter than expected.

Any hairdresser worth their salt would be able to anticipate that, make you aware that what you want is not immediately achievable and find a solution that you're happy with.

I also wonder why, if your hair was already a similar shade, why they would lighten it first.

BalletShoe · 21/07/2020 09:14

Oh and FWIW, I used Garnier Oila Garnet 6.66 up until recently and my hair was exactly the colour in the photo of what you wanted.

I wouldn't advise dying over this yourself atm but for future reference I really liked how my hair looked with that dye.

sadie9 · 21/07/2020 09:19

I would just be brave and go to the Salon. You can be polite, and nice and be insistent. Decide what you want then write that out in a piece of paper learn it off and say it.
Example...'when I got home I could see my hair is not the color we agreed. I would like it redone please'. That is your base statement to keep returning to. Once they agree then say 'I expect this to be free if charge'. If they go on about variations in people's hair go back to the original statement. Keep saying it like a parrot.
Assume they will actually be fine about it. They want happy customers. It's your hair. It's worth a few minutes of being uncomfortable expressing yourself.

Noreensavanah · 21/07/2020 11:35

You asked for burgundy and got orange.
You sound afraid to ask for the correct colour. Don’t be afraid. Go back and show them the picture and ask them nicely to rectify it. You’ll get a better response in person , in front of other customers.

ScottishStottie · 22/07/2020 09:04

Do colour codes/numbers work universally? Ive found the instagram post for the picture i like, and it lists how the stylist did it, but its his own products which the salon dont use. Would this info mean anything to someone who used different brand of dyes? It means nothing to me 😂

Just want to say good luck for your appointment today. Can't wait to see the result.

ScottishStottie · 22/07/2020 17:10

So im in the chair with new colour on my hair... Hairdresser was really apologetic, said that with the bleaching first its just messed with the colour, said that warmer purple tones are harder to get through after bleaching. But tbh the dye currently on looks a totally different colour to before so i think he used the wrong colour.

No mention of paying or not needing to but the apologies and the mention of it ' not working' over the blech im a bit more confident that money wont be mentioned.

Before i leave im planning on just saying that i take it this appointment was coveres within the original price i paid on sunday and im pretty sure they will agree with me.

ScottishStottie · 22/07/2020 17:18

And they have seemed to get me in as a priority. I heard one of the other stylists talking to his client, she asked what time the salon closes, and he said that they finish about 5.30ish but that my stylist is working later tonight for a late appointment that needed in asap (ie me!)

Chesneyhawkes1 · 22/07/2020 17:19

I used to dye my own hair red using either manic panic or adore.

It fades so quickly I didn't want to get the hairdresser to do it all the time.

Hope they fixed it for you 😊

sapphire54925 · 22/07/2020 17:24

Send an after pic. Good luck

TeaChocKitKat · 22/07/2020 18:16

That all sounds promising. Keep us posted and show us an after pic.

Grumpymum789 · 22/07/2020 18:30

Fingers crossed for you. What you originally wanted was a lovely colour.
If Further payment is even mentioned (which it absolutely shouldn’t be!), just say ‘I’m not paying more for today, I understood you are only putting right what you did the other day?’.

winterisstillcoming · 22/07/2020 18:47

Keeping my fingers crossed. And if they don't charge you then we'll don't to them for owning their mistake and putting it right.

ScottishStottie · 22/07/2020 19:27

All done and i love it!!

At the end I mentioned whether it was part of the previous cost and he seemed really shocked that i had even thought they might charge me again. Was really apologetic and just seemed genuinely happy that i was happier with my hair.

He also said that this colour should stick a bit better as the previous colour forms a 'barrier' against the bleach. So it'll fade like a normal red but not as much as a red on bleach would have.

Im quite proud of myself for being assertive enough to get in touch and get it fixed 😊

Looks fab! Being assertive paid off. Try to remember how this worked out well when you doubt yourself next time. 💪💪💪

SmileyClare · 22/07/2020 19:38

Go you!
Really lovely colour. Really nice bathroom too. Grin

TeaChocKitKat · 22/07/2020 19:41

That's lovely!

Grumpymum789 · 22/07/2020 19:59

It’s gorgeous ! Well done 👍🏻

ScottishStottie · 22/07/2020 20:49

Thank you! Its so nice to catch a glimpse of the colour if it falls over my shoulder and be happy that its my hair, rather than wearing it pinned back all the time so i could try and forget how orange it was 😂 (and thanks for the bathroom compliment, hadnt realised the toilet was so noticeable in that photo, or i would have at least put the lid down... 😂)

Ell19 · 22/07/2020 21:28

It looks beautiful!

Ketchup90 · 22/07/2020 22:14

I’m glad you’re happier OP, it’s a horrible feeling when your hair makes you sad. It might be an idea to top up with something like the PPs have recommended in between appointments.

(I’m still not sure you got what you asked for initially though! But it doesn’t take away the fact it’s a lovely colour)

Mnhealth202020 · 22/07/2020 22:17

Glad it all worked out! Sounds like you went to a fab salon as they handled the complaint well.

Can’t wait for my lockdown hair to be banished soon!
