Hair... Can this be saved?

Had my hair done today, lightened from dark brown/dark red dye done at a salon ore lockdown and dyed red. Colour i have is ginger. Ive attached a photo showinf what i have vs what ive got.

I did the polite british thing of not saying anything and paying and leaving, but have now sent a message to the salon saying i wasnt happy with it. Said i should have said at the time but wasnt sure if it just needed getting used to as it was so different. But its not what i wanted.

Was considering just getting a box dye to put on top but then reminded myself that i paid £200 (!) To have this done so surely the salon should fix it??

Its awful isnt it...

OP why not email them and direct your email to the manager? This way you are more likely to get a reply.

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 10:00

Yes i suppose it helps a nit that its not terrible, its just so different to what i was looking for that its leaving me unhappy.

After the appointment i was telling myself that its not the colour i was after but that i liked it, but i was just trying to convince myself i think.

When i looked at it against the photo i had showed i felt like crying as thats when i realised how differnt it actually was.

Ive sent them an email as well, didnt think i had their enail but realised thats how they sent me my receipt so it was there!

They can put a dye over that. You need to go darker, the colour you wanted was a burgundy/maroon colour. That would be easy for them to rectify.

It's acceptable to say you didn't like it when you looked at it properly at home. Perhaps say when you looked at it in natural light, you realised it was the wrong colour.

Be brave! I get it, I'm the same; I thank the hairdresser, tip them Grin and then go home and cry about my hair. It's awkward isn't it?

Ell19 · 20/07/2020 10:10

The colour you wanted is a red violet.

You could do it yourself but you shouldn’t have to, while it looks beautiful it is definitely not red violet and is not what you asked for.

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 10:16

Thank you for being nice. Ill admit to having a wee cry while dp looked at me like i was crazy 😂

If worst comes to it then at least i know i can just out box dye on it myself to fix it. Thats what i was planning last night, googling whether it would work ok when i realised that literally less than 12 hours ago i had oaid someone £200 to do this to me and if im going to spend that sort of money on my hair then i need to stop being so pathetic and say when im not happy.

I cant think of anything else i would pay that much money for while not being happy but i dont know, the fact that its already done makes it feel like something that i just need to accept. At the time it crossed my mind to say something, i talked myself out of it by telling myself that the extra time to fix it would mess up the rest of his appointnents. Im so pathetic haha!

Re your plan B. If you do end up fixing it yourself, don’t use a traditional box dye, there’s no need.

A semi perm colour like Directions will give you a much more vibrant and pigmented colour, and it will be very conditioning, without any extra stress on the hair.

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 11:11

I have red colour conditioner which he said has a lot of pigment in it to help with fading, would washing it with that help? Or would that just make the tone of this red brighter?

Just want to say that I actually really love the colour your hair has gone! I can see it isn’t quite what you asked for but it’s a fabulous colour and I’d love my hair to be that colour. So please don’t cry about it. I can understand the annoyance and frustration at not getting what you wanted (they haven’t done what you asked) and absolutely wanting to get them to admit/understand that. However what you have ended up with is a pretty awesome colour.

Lougle · 20/07/2020 11:17

I don't think I'd do anything until the salon has contacted you.

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 11:25

So theyve just been in touch apologising and asking if i can come in on Wednesday and the original stylist can re colour it for me.

Fingers crossed for wendesday....

Roominmyhouse · 20/07/2020 11:25

They just need to put a deeper and cooler red on, the picture is about a or so shade darker and a more purple red tone. Should be easily fixed by them!

winterisstillcoming · 20/07/2020 11:27

The one you asked for looks like a very dark pink/red as opposed to the red/orange that you actually have.

Hopefully some professionals on here will tell you what's actually need to get you there as it looks like there needs to be some clever colouring that needs to be done. Don't let them touch it unless they are confident they can correct it. Otherwise ask for at least a partial refund.

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 11:31

Its a salon that is known for their creative colour, and the stylist i had has actually won awards for his colouring, which is another reason why i was so shocked at the outcome and was trying to convince myself that it must have been me in the wrong...

Hopefuly with the manager aware of the situation, she'll be helping ensure that its all sorted out.

OP posts:
MrDarcysMa · 20/07/2020 12:21

It's not ginger, but it's not as dark as the photo - it's a more orangey red that you've got (I actually
Prefer it! )
Red colours really difficult to maintain and will fade quickly anyway.

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 12:41

Just spoke to my mum and she said that they probably didnt have the colour on long enough, and that i probably have hair like her, which she called 'colour resistant'?? Is this a thing?

She said when she gets colour it always needs to be left on longer to take, is it worth telling hairdresser this when i go in? I hadnt realised that this is a thing??

MoltonSilver · 20/07/2020 12:47

You're right. It looks faded. Don't be so hard on yourself. Most of us smile politely and pay. It's hard to speak up. If it didn't come out as expected they should have fixed it there and then but hairdressers are under a lot of pressure at the moment. I'm sure they'll sort it out on Wednesday.

cosmo30 · 20/07/2020 13:02

The colour you wanted is a dark cherry red, beautiful colour! Yours still looks lovely but is definitely pale and more of a bright red imo. Glad they're sorting it for you, I used to be dark cherry red and just used the live colours or garniers

Roominmyhouse · 20/07/2020 13:17

It’s not to do with your hair or how long they left it on. It’s just not the right shade to match that picture.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/07/2020 13:26

Good luck for Wednesday!.

Ketchup90 · 20/07/2020 13:28

I agree - it’s just not the right shade

And I would bother looking at the trophies on a salon door; that doesn’t say anymore about the hairdresser than wee Betty down the road. They just happened to enter one of far too many comps Grin

SmileyClare · 20/07/2020 15:14

Are you naturally ginger? That is notoriously difficult to dye, not sure of the science behind that. Colourists get round that by bleaching out colour first though which is what you had done?

Maybe mention your mums difficulties with getting dye to take when you return? He might take that into account.

Well done on pushing for another appointment.. Perhaps you can post some after photos? Smile

The tip up thread about doing it at home with Directions dye is good. You'll need to refresh it at home after a few weeks in between salon visits and a semi perm dye is the best way to avoid fading.

netstaller · 20/07/2020 15:20

It's nothing like the pic - a much lighter shade. Go back speak to the manager and they should fix it.

ScottishStottie · 20/07/2020 16:17

Nope not naturally ginger, natural is dark brown, but it had dark red over it.

No im worried that they are going to try and charge me again on wednesday... Surely not though?

Yes will post after pics on wednesday, hopefuly it will be successful!

SmileyClare · 20/07/2020 16:26

If they apologised and invited you back for a re dye you won't have to pay surely?

Christ, Do not part with another £200! In fact, leave your purse at home.
