Hair... Can this be saved?

Had my hair done today, lightened from dark brown/dark red dye done at a salon ore lockdown and dyed red. Colour i have is ginger. Ive attached a photo showinf what i have vs what ive got.

I did the polite british thing of not saying anything and paying and leaving, but have now sent a message to the salon saying i wasnt happy with it. Said i should have said at the time but wasnt sure if it just needed getting used to as it was so different. But its not what i wanted.

Was considering just getting a box dye to put on top but then reminded myself that i paid £200 (!) To have this done so surely the salon should fix it??

Its awful isnt it...

It doesn't seem too different.
But I do like it. As long as you like it.

It looks fabulous. Well done for speaking out.

justanotherneighinparadise · 22/07/2020 22:41

Oh yes that’s much better! Red is a shit for fading so be really careful how you wash it.

ScottishStottie · 22/07/2020 22:44

Yes i agree that its not quite like what i asked for, but i think my hair is just a bitch for holding dye, and the process of stripping out darker red dye, then bleaching, then dying red is a lot to do.

But its definitely got a warmer shade to it, not as orange/faded as it was before.

I have shampoo and conditioner with red pigment to use when i start to notice fading, and at some point i may attempt a home dye on it, but will see how it lasts.

Got a message from the salon owner checking how i got on at my appointment, as she wasnt able to be in today and wanted to make sure i was happy. So very pleased with the customer service for dealing with this tbh.

He also did a darker root smudge which he didnt before that helps it not be too harsh a colour. Very subtle but makes a big difference imo

Under no circumstances try to fix the colour with box dye. I've done it when my hair was dyed orange and it was a disaster, it ends up a horrendous colour. Tell the salone you realised when you got home it was very wrong and you would like it fixed please and it wasn't what you wanted.
You can't always be sure at the time it's new and you think it will settle on you then you het home, have a proper look and decide it's all wrong.
Don't be afraid to speak up. 200 quid is a lot and if it's wrong you are entitled to change it. Stand up for yourself, no need to be rude or anything just be honest and insist its changed.
I recently refused to pay for some plastering because it was crap. I just said this isn't good enough, it's not the standard I was expecting I don't want you back again, I'm getting someone else in to repair the damage and I'm not paying and that was that.
Hair is no different.

The colour you wanted is stunning but from experience oh my the leaching is bad. Especially if the hair has had bleach in it before. And watch out for pillow and towel staining.

But when freshly done and it catches the sun outside it looks beautiful.

loveskaka · 22/07/2020 22:57

If he put red on top of bleached hair then he didn't do it right. Also it's copper not red x

My mum gave me good advice when I was twenty and moaning about something at work I wasn’t happy about. She said “ You can either keep moaning about it and be unhappy or you can go and complain and get something done about it.” Although it was easier said than done I did complain and got it sorted and that’s what you have just done and you’re happier . I can imagine how you must have felt ,the same happened to me with hair colour. But your hair is gorgeous nowadays much nicer colour, well done.

Well done! Brilliant result but more importantly well done for going back

Enjoy your hair. It looks great and weirdly much shinier than the first picture. Hair envy here.

Word of warning ;be careful with the red pigmented shampoo in your lovely bathroom! It stains stuff.

ScottishStottie · 23/07/2020 09:24

I think it looks shinier as he didnt finish it properly last time... I think he realised he had fucked up the colour, panicked and tried to get me out of there quickly. Hair was straightened but not very well so still looked quite 'big' from being blow dried iykwim. Its the one thing thats probably annoyed me the most tbh. Im 99% sure he knew at the time that it hadnt worked but was clearly just hoping i wouldnt say anything and just leave unhappy. He should have admited there and then that the colour hadnt taken properly, and either fixed it then, or booked in a time to fix it.

But its done now and im happy and love it so i can let it go Grin

I actually dont think the picture does it justice, it has such a nice richness to the tone, but still nice and vibrant. In the past ive struggled to get this from other hairdressers, my last one didnt want to bleach it first (i can see why now...) So it just always looked too dark a red. So at least this guy took the risk i suppose!

It's not ginger but I do agree that it looks already like it has faded. I would be wanting them to fix it - it isn't what you asked for!

LunchBoxPolice · 23/07/2020 10:54

Looks lovely now!

Pancakeorcrepe · 23/07/2020 20:21

That looks so much nicer! Lovely and shiny too.
Well done for going back

neveradullmoment99 · 23/07/2020 23:07

Glad you got it fixed. This happened to me years ago with highlights. Left the salon and was deeply unhappy when I looked in the daylight. I am not confrontational but phoned them and said I wasn't happy. They fixed it free.
It looks beautiful btw. Definitely less flat in colour and way more shiny!
