If someone else has already started one of these please direct me over. I’m not qualified to be the OP of these wonderful threads... but I typed the below and I will be heard Grin Wink

Neither the dress nor the tiara are my personal favourites.

But bloody hell it’s got class.

Granny’s dress and tiara turn it from ‘shameful secret wedding because daddy can’t be seen in public anymore’ to ‘intimate family occasion fully supported and loved by Grandmother, The Queen’. I think it’s a huge showing of support from the Queen to her granddaughter and that’s lovely.

@AppleKatie Thank you for the new thread. The last one lasted ages - we had little Royal Style to comment on during this awful pandemic.
Beatrice looks so happy- the dress is lovely on her and the tiara matches the sparkle on her dress and the whole outfit shows how supportive her Royal granny is.
It was some achievement keeping it all under wraps, with no leakage to the press - well done to all involved.

AngelaScandal · 19/07/2020 02:49

Why thank you @AppleKatie for your dedication to our cause.

I loved the dress and the fact that the whole event screams ‘beloved granddaughter of the Queen’. It beautifully detracts from a) her parents and b) all the rumours that she was finding it hard to get a designer to work with her because of PA.

Genuinely never seen such a happy Royal bride.

Also so much better for the little son of EMM, who didn’t ask to be thrust into the spotlight because of who his Dad was engaged to.

Not a massive fan of the tiara as a piece but see how it works with the vintage dress.

Well played Bea. Well played Your Maj.

Aww Beatrice looks so beautiful & happy.

And @AppleKatie thank you for starting the new thread.

TSSDNCOP · 19/07/2020 06:23

She looks thrilled to bits and I'm glad she finally got her wedding day. The intimacy and the deliberate proximity to HMQ are symbolic, I think, that the Family loves her. A great comfort given her father's woes.

Love the tiara and the flowers. I do think folk saying small wedding lovely would keel over to see the bill for that arch and the wall. Still a bargain compared to other royal brides though.

Cannot get on board with the love for the dress. Before reading its legacy my first thought was that it looks tired and too short. I think the sleeves make the neckline twee and the false hem is too deep by necessity.

Horsemad · 19/07/2020 07:03

Thanks for the new thread @AppleKatie. The last one ended in a flourish after a bit of a lull in the fashion stakes!😆

mathanxiety · 19/07/2020 07:10

Agree about those sleeves.

They could have taken off the straps and gone for a bare shoulder look - maybe not for a formal royal wedding though?
Or little gathered cap sleeves might have looked nice. The puffy style is a little too milkmaid for my taste.

MotherofPearl · 19/07/2020 07:20

Tess of the d'Urbervilles, but with diamonds! @frugalkitty your description made me chuckle!

I so agree with those saying they hope this starts a trend for small intimate weddings. Those huge, massively expensive, overblown weddings really belong in the past imo.

AngelaScandal · 19/07/2020 07:22

Actually it was Fergie that I was put in mind of with the sleeves

Parvin added a huge hem onto Zara's dress too.
I agree it is a smidge too short

She looks fabulous. A wonderful touch to wear her grandmothers dress and tiara. Good for the time we live in now and I think her personal views. They all look so happy ( which I guess could be photoshopped/edited) but I wish them happiness. I've always thought she was HMs fave

Sooverthemill · 19/07/2020 07:33

Oh and I wish I had the budget for all those flowers! Probably cost more than my house...

hadenoughbleach · 19/07/2020 07:42

I absolutely love the way Beatrice looked on her wedding day, absolutely stunning. The dress and tiara were an inspired choice and go hand in hand. It's a shame she's so much taller than the Queen, as I do think the false gem takes away slightly from the overall look.

The flower arch is gorgeous too, and it must have smelt absolutely divine to walk under.

Regulus · 19/07/2020 07:52

The photo with the Queen and PP is so important for the nation as a whole. The Queen (unlike the govt) understands how important it is to the nation for her to be seen to be following the rules, that she is making sacrifices as well, she did the same in the war. That there can be joy (socially distanced) at such a time of upheaval.
The tiara is so important with its history and the fact only HMQ and Princess Anne have worn it.
My favourite wedding dress is still Eugenies but I love the thought of Beatrice going through her grandmother's closet and looking through her dresses, lucky lucky girl.

Disfordarkchocolate · 19/07/2020 08:10

I think she looked wonderful. Absolutely full of joy. The dress looked amazing on her, the flowers were beautiful and the groom looked suitably proud. Not my favourite tiara but she must be a very loved granddaughter to have been allowed to wear that one.

Didiusfalco · 19/07/2020 08:26

I think she looks radiant, and I love the story behind it. How nice of the queen after all the disappointment Beatrice has had with the wedding and her father to provide something truly special and different.

Spudlet · 19/07/2020 08:41

I love a vintage dress and completely agree about the messaging here - whatever may be going on with her father, Bea is still the granddaughter of the Queen and don’t you all forget it!

I have seen over the years various sniffy comments about brides having bare shoulders in church, so I’m guessing that’s why sleeves had to be added. It’s a very pretty dress.

UkuleleRose · 19/07/2020 08:56

Her whole look is just so pretty and sentimental. I know the Queen's dress was made in the sixties, but it has a vintage 1940s vibe.

What a happy couple!

thatone · 19/07/2020 09:02

The dress really suited her. When I first saw it and didn't know it was from the Queen I thought it was a really unusual and original style for nowadays. But you are right OP she looked lovely and it suited the occasion perfectly.

LadyEloise · 19/07/2020 09:06

Whoever thought of Granny's vintage dress and tiara - genius idea.
The flower arch was simply stunning.
Did anyone else notice a rogue red coloured flower at the base on the left hand side of the door as you look at the photo ?

Boscoismyspiritanimal Diana looks so beautiful in that photo you posted.

banivani · 19/07/2020 09:38

I agree with PP that the sleeves are a little milkmaid and that converting it to a strapless dress would have been nicer even. I think I would have kept the straps as they were (probably necessary to keep the top up) and made a little jacket in the same fabric as the hem. But then I am a firm hater of puff sleeves.

JasperRising · 19/07/2020 09:51

I liked Eugenie's dress at the time but seeing that photo of the three dresses, I prefer Beatrice's. And I don't like Eugenie's tiara at all. That said I think they both suit the different types of wedding

ittooshallpass · 19/07/2020 09:53

The dress looked gorgeous. She can carry the puff sleeves as she is so petite. Strapless would have been completely inappropriate for a royal wedding (awful for a lot of brides IMHO - very few can wear strapless be look good!).

I hope big over the top weddings see a decline now too - the cost and size of weddings really has got out of hand.

The pictures are really lovely. The only one that spoils them is the one with Toby Wright, the son of the sub-dean of the Chapel Royal, Reverend Paul Wright, who is shown in denim shorts and a Hawaiian shirt looking at the donated bouquet! What on Earth is that all about?! I can only imagine his family has no idea he was going to be photographed. Such a shame. I'd be mortified if he was mine!

EvilPea · 19/07/2020 09:59

Gorgeous dress, gorgeous flowers. Beautiful tiara. Well done bea.
Fabulously well played. She’s hit the nail on the head with the mood (covid, not her dad) and the importance of marriage over the wedding.

The flowers seem spectacularly huge, I wonder if it’s in support of the chosen florist at this tricky time? They work and are stunning, but they are massive

The two princesses really do seem lovely.
