Wedding guest help - yay or nay to this dress?

Dress in question!

I hate printed or vaguely 'occasiony' dresses of any kind and I'd actually wear this dress outside of a wedding setting. I've got a small wedding coming up end of August in a countryside venue and was wondering if this dress would look chic and not too casual.

Planning on wearing with some heeled gold sandals, gold jewellery and a little white crossbody bag.

Should add, I plan on doing up more buttons than the model has! Grin

Nice dress but for me too casual

Pipandmum · 18/07/2020 17:50

I think it's too casual.

Todaywewilldobetter · 18/07/2020 17:51

It's lovely! Dressed up that will be a picture of elegance!

Jaxhog · 18/07/2020 17:51

Depends on the wedding. I've seen worse (at an actual wedding).

chipsandpeas · 18/07/2020 17:52

too casual

SionnachRua · 18/07/2020 17:52

Very pretty. I think dressed up it will look good for a wedding and you can definitely use it as daily wear too!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/07/2020 17:53

Nay, too casual and would probably look a crumpled mess very quickly.

Horseshoe5 · 18/07/2020 17:54

I think it's lovely, go for it!!

userabcname · 18/07/2020 17:54

I think it could be dressed up. I like it.

PatchworkElmer · 18/07/2020 17:54

I think it’s too casual, sorry.

kittensandcoffee · 18/07/2020 17:54

Here's some styling inspo:

One
Two

I should maybe add the venue is quite small/casual?

LuxuryWoman2020 · 18/07/2020 17:55

I think it will get very crumpled after a while and would take very careful accessorising, it's a no from me

kittensandcoffee · 18/07/2020 17:56

Opinions are about 50/50 so far! I just realllllly hate almost all dresses and especially printed/fussy things. If anyone has any nice minimalisty dresses, feel free to link!

OP posts:
Stinkyjellycat · 18/07/2020 17:56

I also think too casual, even more so after the styling inspo.

Stinkyjellycat · 18/07/2020 17:57

Why do you feel you need to wear a dress? You can find really smart trousers or jumpsuits that would be ideal for a wedding.

Lookatthat · 18/07/2020 17:57

Too casual and more like something you’d wear in the office in the styling pics.

Hardbackwriter · 18/07/2020 17:58

If you hate dresses then could you look at something else entirely - a jumpsuit, trousers and a blingy top? I think the dress is fine - no one's going to be staring at you in horror at your overly casual dress - but just fine, it's not very special.

kittensandcoffee · 18/07/2020 18:01

To those suggesting jumpsuits/trousers - I like them fine, I just don't like occasion-y outfits in general. On this occasion, I think a dress would be better though, I think it's likely to be quite hot. Also I was hoping to buy a dress I could wear IRL too so it's not a waste of money.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 18/07/2020 18:02

I think it is casual but also, depending on styling, I reckon it could look really chic in an "I haven't made too much effort" for the type of wedding you've described. Not all weddings need to have the "occasion" dress.

KellyLDN · 18/07/2020 18:02

I think it’ll look chic & elegant dressed up. Go for it!

BikeRunSki · 18/07/2020 18:04

If it’s a bit of a boho wedding in a field/seaside cafe/cricket club/windmill - it’s fine, yes

If it’s a more formal wedding in a church/town hall - too casual

Somewhere in between -dress it up

thebear1 · 18/07/2020 18:04

I think it will look lovely and with the styling you mentioned would be Wedding appropriate.

Hardbackwriter · 18/07/2020 18:06

In that case I think it's fine, and could look lovely dressed up a bit. I also think that if your style is generally very casual, which it sounds is the case, then you don't have to go as dressed up to look 'occasion-y' to people who know you, and in fact it can look a bit weird/jarring if you do

Bbq1 · 18/07/2020 18:06

I'm sorry but it looks like a cover up for the beach or at a push something you'd wear really casually.
