Letting my hair go grey at 43

I've been dyeing it brown for 15 years and am just fed up. Had enough of the unfair beauty standard. Had enough of feeling shame / embarrassment when my roots grow through. Fed up of the expense of dyeing it.

My hair is a salt and pepper colour with white streaks I think, but currently dark blonde. Has anyone got any tips for dealing with this transition, then for life with grey hair at a relatively young age? How to deal with the awful way it looks while it grows out... Any shampoo recommendations? I have quite a lot of black in my wardrobe so imagine I might have to wear different colours?

I've got bob length hair, am alright looking, decent skin, niceish figure although my hair is shit really fine. I think if I keep it cut nicely and in good condition I could pull it off. Don't want to look old before my time. I'm really excited about it but would appreciate any advice!

My DD is 22 and I cut her hair for her, last time I noticed she had a few streaks of grey, she's never dyed her hair and won't start now.

Having grown out all my blonde over 3 years ago, I had mine coloured brown with golden blonde highlights yesterday. I feel soooo much better. It is way more flattering to my skintone and brings out the colour of my eyes. I am very happy. It wasn't that I hated my natural colour, which was a mix of light ash brown and white, but I felt washed out and, dare I say, frumpy. I'm not sure I look younger, I still look like a woman in her 50's, but I look more vibrant.

BradleyCooperwillbemine, this is how I feel!

I'm like that Meadow my dm and df were not grey at my age and dm still has a lot of dark hair at nearly 80

Anyone who thinks grey is more aging than dyed hair needs to go lool at Jack Martin Colorist on Instagram. Artificial colour - especially dark brown is VERY aging on older skin

I think there are a whole load of factors that can make you look older or younger, tbh. Poor condition hair can look older regardless of colour, it's not the only factor.

Thanks for posting everyone. After a slow start this thread has given me everything I wanted and more!!! I love the pictures you've shared thank you and I'm following the Grombre page now, and Jack Martin achieves amazing things although they're dyed I think (his descriptions are very technical I couldn't really follow Confused )

But your sentiment post @quirkychick is exactly what I feel. I do yoga and want to keep a strong core and a tall, straight posture for as long as I can. Hunched shoulders can be quite ageing I think. And I want to be vivacious in my heart... interested, enthusiastic, not being too proud to help out, have friends of all ages, dance, laugh, grow, explore. And I can do all of that with grey hair. I'll stop at the risk of sounding like a motivational quote Grin

Grin @Blurpblorp you put it pretty well yourself. I also do yoga and am working on my posture...

If you're on instagram or Pinterest then these silver-haired women are very inspirational: @saraissilver (Sara Sophia Eisenman), Annika von Holdt, Yasmina Rossi (there are loads more, but these come to mind straight away). They all rock silver hair with a (young) attitude.
