If you are over 40 what 5 make up items can you not live without (slightly dramatic).
I need a refresh. Money no object.

Maybelline Great Lash mascara. If I have that (and my red lipstick) then I'm sorted

Yankathebear · 05/07/2020 20:01

@LadyMonicaBaddingham I haven’t seen that for years! I used to love it but got distracted by YSL. Yes! I’ll add it to my list.

Becca Under Eye - you need this, you really do
Hourglass Veil Powder - tbf there are other good one too
Nars creamy concealer
Kiehls Lip Balm

That’s it for me. Everything else changes but the above are must haves. Super nice to have include a Tom Ford Eye Quad, Kevin Aucoin lipstick and Laura Mercier brushes.

travailtotravel · 05/07/2020 20:01

Less is more as I get older. Decent moisturiser. Matte powder or primer, eyeliner, mascara and a lip does me through most things. If I need to get fancy, eyeshadow, bb cream and a bit of colour in my cheeks or bronzer.

Railingsohno · 05/07/2020 20:22

Hourglass ambient powder and the bronzer too
Hourglass mascara
Bobbi brown foundation stick
Benefit erase concealer
Smashbox eyebrow pencil

Railingsohno · 05/07/2020 20:23

Should add that that gives a very natural look

Courtney555 · 05/07/2020 20:25

Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk lipstick.
Ysl touche éclat foundation
Lancome doll eyes mascara.
A dash of white eyeliner on the inner lower lid.

MabelMoo23 · 05/07/2020 20:29

Giorgio Armani Luminous silk foundation
Becca under eye corrector
Hourglass mascara
Retinol products (Medik8 good brand)
SPF

MrsNoah2020 · 05/07/2020 20:36

Bobbi Brown colour corrector (NOT the concealer, which I find too thick) - magic for dark circles with a bit of another brand's concealer over the top of it.

IT cosmetics CC cream - looks really natural, gives good coverage, lasts all day

By Terry Glow expert duo stick blusher/highlighter. Like all By Terry products, it's eye-waveringly expensive, but it gives the perfect glow without being too shiny or highlighting large pores.

Catlover77 · 05/07/2020 20:36

Bare Minerals - Complexion Rescue. Less is more

UncomfortableSilence · 05/07/2020 20:37

Charlotte Tilbury - Pillow Talk Lipstick
Two Faced - Better than Sex Mascara
Two Faced - Sweetie Pie Bronzer
Sleek Rose Gold Blush - This is just gorgeous, will never be without this.
Any soft grey eyeliner.

Tillytess · 05/07/2020 20:38

SPF
Good concealer, currently trying out Revolution Conceal and Fix
High pigment nude liner for waterline
Maybelline brow satin (dark blonde for me)
Max Factor Miracle Veil
Defining mascara
Lip balm or nude lipstick (NOT matte)
Sorry, that's more than 5 but I need them all!

Oly4 · 05/07/2020 20:38

Any Lancôme mascara, they are fantastic
Clinique foundation
Laura mercier eye palettes
Urban decay eyeliners

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/07/2020 20:38

Red lipstick - I have about 100, all TOTALLY different - but if I could only have one it would be MAC Lady Danger
YSL All Hours foundation
Glossier cloud paint
Hourglass ambient lighting thing
MAC false lash mascara

I would also want eyelash curlers, Smashbox primer, a nude eyeshadow, and a highlighter, tbh.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/07/2020 20:38

Well over 40 and not a make-up wearer but my essentials:
Eyebrow crayon (at the moment I have a Nyx and an ELF - I pick up whichever is nearest)

Eyebrow dye ( I use the Revolution 3 Day dye )

Barry M Metallics kohl pencil in purple -I have brown eyes , this rocks

Lipbalm, not fussy . At the moment a Lanolips raspberry one

Ulrikaka · 05/07/2020 20:40

Eyelash curlers. Without them, all else is hopeless. If I have them, I can manage with nothing else.

haverhill · 05/07/2020 20:44

Touche Eclait under eye thing
Boots number 7 gold tube mascara (never, ever smudges)
Any brow mascara in light brown
A cream or liquid blusher applied to the ‘apples’
A creamy long lasting lipstick in a brightest pink

All key features enhanced/improved and the lip colour makes me look awake.

haverhill · 05/07/2020 20:45

Brightish not brightest

REN Perfect Canvas primer. No creepy silicone and not greasy looking, it just makes your skin look better. But it is forty quid. But it lasts for a long time.

Babamamananarama · 05/07/2020 20:52

Chanel vitalumiere foundation

SoftBlocks · 05/07/2020 20:53

Mascara, Brow mascara and Concealer - all by Kiko Milan and v affordable

Carmex peach lip balm (In the thin, pale green tube) but it has been discontinued and I can’t find anything similar! If anyone knows of anything I’d be really grateful!

L4uz · 05/07/2020 20:58

I'm not over 40 but my mum is 60 and she uses Temple Spa - Windows of the soul eye cream and absolutely swears by it! It's not cheap but she uses it twice a day and it makes a massive difference :)

Yankathebear · 05/07/2020 21:02

Thanks! Lots of research to do before making my shopping list!
