If you are over 40 what 5 make up items can you not live without (slightly dramatic).
I need a refresh. Money no object.

Lancome Hypnose mascara
Estee Lauder Perfection mineral sun block spf 40 (used daily under make up)
Nars blusher - Sex Appeal
Bobbi Brown Luxe lipstick
Bobbi Brown concealers- either the wand full concealer or the creamy pot
Bobbi Brown Skin foundation or cheaper No 7 Hydraluminous

@Todaywewilldobetter

I will die on the IT cosmetics CC cream hill. Spf and lovely coverage that doesn't sit in your creases
Agreed - it transformed my skin after spending £££ on useless primers and foundations.

Also agree with Benefit They're Real mascara mentioned by PP.

I'll add;
Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream (ok not makeup but everything sits perfectly after using this and it absorbs immediately)
Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics - all the shades I need for subtle eyemakeup
Rapid Brow Serum (also not really makeup but means I don't need to use any brow products)

Terralee · 08/07/2020 19:41

I'm 43.
Before applying makeup I apply Clinique smart repair serum & usually either Boots No7 Protect & Perfect spf15 day cream or spf30 facial sun lotion.

Then the top 5 make up items I recommend are:

Boots No7 Airbrush Away pore minimising Primer

Boots No7 Smoky Powder Eyeliner in Brown

Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows in Soft Blonde

Clinique High Impact Mascara in Black

Clinique stay-matte sheer pressed powder oil-free in Invisible Matte

I also like Clinique eyeshadows as they stay put & don't irritate my eyes.
I use a selection of Clinique lipsticks & glosses.
I also use just a tiny bit of Clinique stay matte oil-free foundation in Cream Chamois (I've had it so long not sure if it's still available!!), or I apply my Boots No7 BB cream in Medium all over if I feel like I want a nice glow.
I use a tiny bit of Clinique under eye concealer (the writing has worn off so don't know the name of it but the colour matches my skin tone).

I've just discovered Revlon Powder Blush in Tickled Pink which is similar to a far more expensive Benefit one I like.

@TudorChimney I got it from Cult Beauty and got the medium to dark shade. I was unsure which one to get but watched a couple YouTube videos and read Google reviews. I’m Indian, have an olive skintone and the medium to dark suits beautifully. The lighter shade at Cult Beauty had sold out which also helped make up my mind 😂😂. There is an ‘email to notify’ option though which I’ve used a few times for other products.

Thanks, I was looking at the Cult Beauty reviews but did not think of Youtube. That puts me in a dilemma, I have olive-ish white skin, maybe I need the lighter one. It gets such good reviews!

Charlotte Tilbury flawless filter.

EZA15 · 09/07/2020 05:48

@TudorChimney, it does sound like you’ll need the lighter one. If it helps, I tend to type in “name of product, Indian skin” then scroll through until I find someone with what I think is the same skin tone as me or has the same foundation tone as me. (Even in my mid 30’s I seem to think I’m darker than I am!)

LeJollieJauneOiseau · 09/07/2020 08:21

Estée Lauder The Illuminator primer.
Dior Forever skin glow foundation.
Glossier stretch concealer.
An eyebrow pencil, currently using No7.
Chanel Les Beiges powder.
Becca Skin love stick highlighter.
Eyelash primer, currently using a Beauty Pie one.
Cream blusher, always cream blusher.
Any mascara because I still can't find 'The One'
Either tinted lip balm or a flattering nude, Beauty Pie lip pencils are subtle.
Charlotte Tillbury
Airbrush bronzer.

I know that's way over 5 but I create a very natural yet polished look with them.

Yankathebear · 09/07/2020 20:29

Thank you! I forgot that I posted this. Whoops.

I’m going to have a look through and try a few.

Anyone got a link to the Becca eye thing - I have seriously bad permanent dark circles.

ChequerBoard · 11/07/2020 13:06

I'm seriously considering getting this Becca kit which contains the under eye corrector, under eye powder and a colour corrector for dark circles too. It's £29 for the kit (smaller size products) whereas the full size under eye corrector is £21. Is this worth trying?

Brow pencil
Mascara
Gel eye liner in charcoal
Dior Lip glow

Less is more

Immigrantsong · 11/07/2020 22:46

Before me going into make up, make sure to have top notch skincare: vitamin c, tretinoin or retinol and Niaciamide or azelaic acid or alpha arbutin.

My top 5:
Doll10 foundation from qvc - most creamy high coverage base I have found and I usually hate liquid base
Benefit mascara, roller something (crap with names sorry)
Bare minerals foundation in powder
Essence blush, cheap as chips but best colours
Stila all day lipstics
