45 and still shop in TopShop, New Look, River Island. I wear what I want, and don't consider age at all.

mrsnec · 26/06/2020 17:29

Late 30's early 30's Zara,Mango Oasis and Warehouse. Nowhere else! I'm 42 now and would add Boden and Asos to that list but that's still pretty much it but I have a strange penchant for Peacocks ocassionaly. Much better than Primark. Same price but better quality and fit.

mrsnec · 26/06/2020 17:32

Re sea salt I might add, everyone wears it where my mum lives. They have shops everywhere down there. I saw some fuss online about some of their designs but I really don't get it. But it's each to their own. I don't rate Sea salt but love Desigual it's around the same price point and that's quite a controversial opinion.

Bunnymumy · 26/06/2020 17:35

31 recently started shopping in mns for clothes. Still wouldn't be averse to getting anything from new look and in occasion, river island though.

For shoes and bags I love Dune.

I like debinhams and house of frazers so I can just shop a mix of things.

I probably wouldn't shop in hnm anymore. Ablnd I couldn't fit so much as an arsecheek in anything from topshop.

yellowbluebell · 26/06/2020 17:39

45 and I love Wallis for tops to go with jeans and I love Laura Ashley for skirts with just plain black or white tops.

Susanna85 · 26/06/2020 17:40

I'm 30 and most of my things are from Mango, Zara, Oliver Bonas, topshop, sainsbury, ASOS

Yes, to me Joules often looks frumpy.

bengalcat · 26/06/2020 17:43

54 and still shop in Topshop - also like Zara , Mango , Primark , Boden ( of course ) , Joe Browns and Ted Baker .

Susanna85 · 26/06/2020 17:46

BTW in your 20s where what you like, from wherever. If you feel good you look good

CaptainSpirit · 26/06/2020 17:46

I'm 24 and shop in H&M, New Look, Boohoo and ASOS. Found a very cute top in Sainsburys the other week for only £5 so going to start hunting around there more too.

I'd say my go-to kind of outfit is a pair of leggings/ripped jeans, oversized t-shirt and a comfy cardie - tend to be able to get those items from almost anywhere (though I'm specific on patterns and colours!)

46 I still love joules but need to pick and choose (some stuff looks really mumsy), Barbour for jackets etc, next for jeans, I've just ordered some dungarees from Lucy & yac, tried mint velvet, mainly knitwear, but quality doesn't seem to last, Boden I'm not keen on. Recently had a few things from Joe Brown as I like that they are a tiny bit quirky. I'm loving Animal tips at the moment

TheMurk · 26/06/2020 17:48

44 and shop anywhere I see something I like.

I also still have really long hair which would upset the Daily Mail no end.

Apolloanddaphne · 26/06/2020 17:51

I am 57 and a bit overweight (16/18). I like White Stuff, Fat Face, Jigsaw, and White Company. Seasalt and Joules are okay for a few bits and pieces but some of it can be frumpy. I like natural fibres - cotton, linen, wool and it can be hard to find stuff at times. I also like Uniqlo but there isn't one in Scotland so I stock up when I visit my DD in London.

CupcakesK · 26/06/2020 17:53

Mid 30’s and have been shopping mostly at White stuff, joules, Boden, fat face since about 28. Still go to H&M, primark etc for basics

mrsnec · 26/06/2020 17:59

Something that still resonates with me is this, when I had my first office job that didn't require a uniform in the early noughties I was given a clothing allowance. I remember asking for guidance about what to wear and where to shop and being told 'The FD thinks you can't go far wrong with wallis and Principles for sensible office attire' and I avoided them both ever since!

moonsnake · 26/06/2020 18:04

30- ASOS, H&M, Topshop, Zara, Primark

Viragoesque · 26/06/2020 18:12

What shops do you class as mumsy and frumpy?

I think both those terms are misogynistic and unpleasant, and demonise older women and mothers.

I buy clothes all over the place, but I have very few and go for a bit of a uniform. I like plain, androgynous things Margaret Howell, COS, Oska but I also have things from M and S, H and M, Uniqlo. I have Bretons and some good rainjackets from Seasalt.

Viragoesque · 26/06/2020 18:12

Oh, and am 47.

NotMeNoNo · 26/06/2020 18:18
  1. Ebay. I've concluded clothes used to be better in the olden days so I just choose individual good quality /interesting items.

Otherwise I buy classics/basics: Gap, Levis, Uniqlo, plain wool knitwear, DMs, Birkenstocks. Quite like Jigsaw for workwear.

I think it's more about style than age. Some people just suit that seaside/ country wellies look and some don't. There's definitely no maximum age for trainers.

I once sat near a really stylish lady on a train: designer trainers, well cut jeans, a satin-type padded jacket, lipstick, sunglasses, chic haircut. Then she took her sunglasses off and I could see she was at least 70 - I'd assumed she was about my age. I think she was speaking Italian, so perhaps not a surprise she was so well put together. After that I decided it's about the look not the age.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 26/06/2020 18:18

44 and a Mumsnet style and beauty mumsy wet dream! Boden, fat face, joules, white stuff and the odd thing from next and sea salt.

I like natural materials. I feel I’m too old for cheap polyester dresses. I do have a few and if I’m out and see a nice dress I will buy it wherever it’s from. So do have a couple to dresses from new look and top shop.
But my go to shops are as above. The others I tend to see when shopping with 14yr old dd.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 26/06/2020 18:20

Oh and the term mumsy doesn’t insult me in the slightest. I am a mum. Have been for 23 years and wouldn’t change a thing.
I’ve never been that cutting edge style seeker. I’ve always been a dress and cardigan Wearer. Add tights and a chunky cardigan for winter and boots or floaty dresses with sandal for summer.

XingMing · 26/06/2020 18:28

63, still wear hoodies, jeans and sneakers... just slightly posher ones, and no rips, but some worn knees. I shop mainly online (Uniqlo queen) and in a very small Devon town with two or three excellent independent boutiques. But I am firmly with @NotMeNoNo that a great look transcends age and wrinkles. My trainer (XingDog) and two fitness teachers mean I still wear modest shorts and bikinis too!

Ellapaella · 26/06/2020 18:35

I'm 41 and shop all over. Hush, Topshop, Oliver Bonas, Allsaints, New Look, Sezane (my current obsession). I wouldn't turn my nose up at any label or shop if I liked an individual item. I have actually just ordered a summer dress from Seasalt and have one of their raincoats which is super practical and the best raincoat I've ever had, 5 years old and still going strong.
FatFace wouldn't be somewhere I went looking for something, neither would Joules or White stuff but if I saw something I liked from there and it fitted nicely I'd get it. White stuff was a favourite of mine for work clothes in my early 30's when I didn't have to wear a uniform to work but personally I think quality has gone downhill over the last few years and the clothes are a little drab now.

I am 53 and buy what I like regardless of shop or trend. However, now go for quality rather than quantity and that tends to rule out certain shops. By the way, have also found the quality of Mint Velvet disappointing considering price point.
