I'm 40, most of my clothes are from River Island, Topshop, Zara, Asos & House of CB. I still feel too young for Next and find Boden, Fat Face, Joules etc too old fashioned for my style

mizu · 02/07/2020 21:14
  1. Secondhand from eBay mainly and mainly brands that will last and I love the look of: TOAST, Cos, Monki, MH (although rarely as super expensive even 2nd hand), bits from Zara, And Other Stories, Urban Outfitters (both my teen DDs love this place so I find myself perusing and have bought dresses and jeans from there in the last year).

Agree with floisme with regards to Whistles, so bloody expensive too.

Craftycorvid · 02/07/2020 21:34

53: blend of...
Ebay
Charity shops and vintage
Gudrun Sjoden (the less spotty and, er, demented deisgns)
Oska
Some odds and sods from Toast, Seasalt et al, but not head to toe as a bit twee.
Doc Martens
Converse
Art Company.

I used to like Fat Face but they’ve gone very samey.

RedLlama · 02/07/2020 21:40

I will never stop wearing trainers

PurBal · 02/07/2020 21:43

My SIL, 24, almost exclusively wears Joules so I don't see it as mumsie (although she has almost zero "smart" / "smart casual" clothing. I just wear what makes me feel good about myself. I rarely shop in New Look / H&M because I associate those stores with being a teenager. But I wouldn't not shop there if there was something I needed.

PurBal · 02/07/2020 21:45

Me, 30. Recent purchases include: Jigsaw, Reiss, M&S.

Swiftier · 02/07/2020 21:52

I’m 33 and mostly shop for clothes at:
Sezane
Rouje
Avavav Firenze
Musier Paris
Ganni

I like some other specific shops for certain items eg Uniqlo and Sunspel for basic tees and jumpers, Liberty for their range of jeans, Outnet also for things like jeans (designer brands at sale prices), Sweaty Betty for sportswear, Hunza G for swimwear. Sometimes Cos for basic jumpers and so on too.

LightOfAThousandStars · 02/07/2020 23:11

34

H&M, New Look, TU, Next, Primark for tops
Topshop and New Look for Jeans

Bloodylovecheese · 03/07/2020 00:39

52 here..
COS
Sainsburys
Mint Velvet
H&M
ZARA
sometimes M&S

I find Joules, White Stuff and Seasalt a bit mumsy for me and safe, but I like their shoes.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 03/07/2020 00:45

29 and most of my things are from Mango, Zara, Monsoon (think they have gone under now 😭) and Miss Selfridge.

Minnie747 · 03/07/2020 01:03

31
Zara, Sezanne, Mango, H&M, Hobbs, Maje, L.K Bennett, Tommy, Ralph Lauren.

MingeofDeath · 03/07/2020 01:23

Get my stuff mainly from Debenhams or online. Can'y afford designer stuff. I'm 52 and was wearing Converse All Stars today with skinny jeans, am I too old for them?

Amyheadache · 03/07/2020 06:36

After having kids and spending time in maternity wear I found myself gravitating towards that joules ‘look’ lots of Bretons and catch kids tonight type florals. I realised a couple of years ago I just felt frumpy and blah every day.
Since then I’ve been going through a gradual revamp of my wardrobe and I feel new again. I know it’s only clothes but it’s amazing what they can do to your self confidence!
Now I shop at
And other stories
Zara
H&M
Mango
eBay for expensive items I swim after
Couple of local boutiques with danish and french brands

Although I did recently buy the fat face dungarees as dress like a mum said they were amazing (and they are)

I don’t like ripped jeans because I find the rips get worse, I wouldn’t go out with my midrift, bum etc exposed but other than that no rules

I’m 39 x

Amyheadache · 03/07/2020 06:37

Eurgh cath kidston not catch kids tonight. Stupid autocorrect!

Monty27 · 03/07/2020 06:46

59 size 8\10 and skint Grin
I buy most stuff high end for my pocket in charity shops.
Whistles Hobbs Great Plains amongst others not so high end Zara occasionally next and others.
I pick up tights and stuff in Primark.
Shoes, my niece donates to me 😊

Monty27 · 03/07/2020 06:50

Oh and my DC's and family and friends buy me stuff for presents. I love Dr Marten boots for example.
Handbags are passed to me from DD.
I like to think I still look a bit with it.
Neither frumpy nor mutton.
Slightly eccentric probably. Grin

ChaoticCatling · 03/07/2020 07:11

At what age did you stop wearing certain things etc trainers hoodies ripped jeans Never liked ripped jeans, but mid thirties and this is how I otherwise dress everyday. Much of it is from seasalt and fatface though.I have the build of a teenager so I think I get away with it.

CockCarousel · 03/07/2020 07:12

Age 48
Gap
Hush
Free People
Baukjen
Uniqlo
Toast
Lucy & Yak
Me & Em
Trainers (or brogues if I'm dressing up!) in the winter, Birkenstocks or Tevas in the summer.
Boden/Joules/Fatface etc. not really my tone of scene as I dislike prints apart from spots or stripes.

CountessFrog · 03/07/2020 07:31

I think some of it depends on your shape rather than your age, though.

I’m pear shaped - sizeable bottom, mum tum, size 14/16. I’m a bit rubbish at fashion and I have such little time. I tend to go to John Lewis and shop their brands to find what suits, with some marks and Spencer’s.

I have a mixture of:
Hush
Toast
Phase eight (plain dresses)
Mint velvet
White stuff (love their dolce pants)
Fat face (dresses)
Marks and Spencer (jeans, underwear)
Boden occasionally

I really like the styles in Jigsaw and Hobbs, but rarely find things that suit me because they don’t cover my stomach well. I buy the occasional jacket or woollen poncho from them.

I find shopping frustrating, partly through lack of time, but also because I don’t think fashion caters much to my age/shape, and yet I have good money to spend. I really need some trainers but I don’t know what to buy. My teenager won’t let me buy certain styles because she says it’s embarrassing. I like converse but they hurt my feet!

2gorgeousboys · 03/07/2020 07:38

I'm 43 and shop everywhere from New Look, Top Shop and H&M to Mint Velvet, & Other Stories and Hush. I've got the odd bits of Boden and Joules too.

I think it depends on style not age.

ChinWhiskers · 03/07/2020 07:54

I liked per una, fcuk, and river islabd when i was 16, wore topshop at 20 and asos, charity, Wallis, debenhams and ebay at 25, wore seasalt and nomads at 30 🤷🏼‍♀️

Passmethechocolatecake · 03/07/2020 08:43

27
Topshop, All Saints, Urban Outfitters (bloody overpriced though, I’m a fan of their sale rack Grin), Disturbia, Vans and I buy a lot of print t shirts from tattoo conventions and the like.
Maybe I need to grow up a bit.

MrsVeryTired · 03/07/2020 12:40

48, like H&M, Next, TKMaxx, Sainsburys, M&Co for basics.

Boutiques, markets on holiday for something a bit different.

Proper shoe shops for shoes, boots, trainers (not Clarks).

MrsVeryTired · 03/07/2020 12:44

I wouldn't buy ripped jeans but do sometimes wear them (old ones for dog-walking Grin)

And still wear hoodies and band t-shirts, if RobertDJ can do it at age 55 then so can I Grin

WashedUpDriedOut · 03/07/2020 12:46

I really like Captain Tortue clothes. Only in the sales though. Aged 48.
