Do you like this wedding dress?

And do you think it would have that heart stopping simplicity which I see in it, anyway, in real life? It would just be for a small register office winter wedding.

Ygritte, why on God's earth would any mother of any bride want to look 'frumpy'??

Surely you didn't actually mean what you wrote?

Not forgetting that even women with grown up daughters might themselves be the bride!

“genuine costume from the Handmaids Tale worn for a birthing scene“
😂😂😂😂😂

@NameChange84 Thank you, I love the Hepburn one.

And thanks for all opinions, suggestions. My instant reaction was 'isn't it beautiful,' but now am less convinced.

The Hepburn one did trip my breath slightly in an 'oh that is lovely,'' kind of way, so may well get that one.

Damn, they only have it in 18.

@theotherfossilsister

Arghhhhh they had loads this morning!

In all honesty, if I were you, it’s such a simple style you are looking for that I’d have one made. You could get a beautiful fabric and have it fit like a glove which is a must with such a simple dress. It wouldn’t cost that much with a local dressmaker to make it.

theotherfossilsister · 16/05/2020 17:11

Ah, maybe I will have it made then, although have also signed up for an email when it comes back in my size. Thank you for finding it. I love it so much.

When I was at University a friend had a dress very similar to that in black, and when we went to the ball (all in our floor length gowns which we loved) she simply wore that and a pink scarf, and it took my breath away.

No problem, I love helping people find clothes, especially dresses!

You sound a bit like me in your tastes. I sometimes feel I was born in the wrong era. I love the Hepburn type look and wear quite a bit of 40s 50s and even 20s vintage style clothing even day to day. It’s that era of when women wore the clothes rather than the clothes wearing them if that makes sense?

I hope that you manage to get the dress! And that you have a beautiful wedding day x

steppemum · 17/05/2020 12:20

all the people who are saying that it is a communion dress like Amish etc etc are missing the point that it is BACKLESS.

As soon as you see the back, the look will seem different.

AnnofPeeves · 17/05/2020 12:26

Have to say or immediately put me in mind of the Sound of Music. As most poorly look at the front of a bride, and the pictures at a wedding are also of the front of the bride, I think even having no back still won't stop it from looking frumpy.

Moonlite · 17/05/2020 12:29

I think it has potential to be stunning, however it would depend on your height/weight I think. With a tall slim woman it may look stunning but with short and overweight woman it may be a disaster

HaveAtEm · 17/05/2020 13:55

@steppemum but we can’t actually see the back...which isn’t very helpful. Plus...and even more poignant really...how many wedding photos are actually going to be taken of the BACK of the dress? Is the OP going to spend all day with her BACK to everyone? No! It’s the front of the dress that is going to be the focus for the most part 🤷‍♀️ And that’s the bit that a lot of posters are saying looks a bit plain. Which is their honest opinion...which was asked for👍
