And do you think it would have that heart stopping simplicity which I see in it, anyway, in real life? It would just be for a small register office winter wedding.

I think it will depend on how it’s dressed. It could look really elegant.

So for example. High strappy sandals, bare legs, bit of a tan, hair either in a classy up do or left looose with some lovely flowers in it.

Flat shoes etc could turn it rather nun like.

TheTiaraManager · 16/05/2020 09:01

I think it looks like a nightdress

Have you looked at Monsoon? uk.monsoon.co.uk/uk/wedding/bridal/dresses

chatterbugmegastar · 16/05/2020 09:06

I think if you're a size 4 and about 6 ft tall it might work but even then it would need snazzing up. It's really plain and drab imo

theotherfossilsister · 16/05/2020 09:19

Wow, thank you, this got so many replies while away. Some of them made me laugh, and it is a fair point about Polyester, however I like the idea of ordering it with the discount code (thank you!) and sending it back if wrong.

I think it’s one of those dresses you’d have to try - it will either look wonderful on you or you’ll look like you’ve wrapped in a bedsheet, depending on your shape.

BluebellsareBlue · 16/05/2020 09:22

It's very grumpy. Reminds me of an old fashioned night dress. But it's not my opinion that matters, it's yours.

BluebellsareBlue · 16/05/2020 09:23

And of course autocorrect got me again... frumpy

HermioneWeasley · 16/05/2020 09:24

It’s a no from me - I’m in the postulant nun camp

theotherfossilsister · 16/05/2020 09:25

haha, I love very grumpy.

Last night I thought it was all Elfine at the party in Cold Comfort Farm, but today not so sure. Partner doesn't like it (and yes, I am letting him have a say as I want him to like my dress and not be all, Oh Bloody Hell, really?)

Wife said “it really says I’m being given from one family to another and I’m not allowed to have any fun. Ever.”

If that’s the vibe you’re after, by all means go for it.

RJnomore1 · 16/05/2020 09:28

I think @EvolvingElleis spot on - on the right person it will look amazing but you don’t know til you try it on.

Laburnam · 16/05/2020 09:28

It’s a no from me, although elegant it’s too plain and the neck line looks too high. Show us pictures when you order it though!!

missmouse101 · 16/05/2020 09:29

I don't like it at all. Really frumpy.

theotherfossilsister · 16/05/2020 09:30

haha, thanks @HermioneWeasley - not quite the vibe I want, although I do love long sleeves on a wedding dress.

MistyMinge2 · 16/05/2020 09:31

Definitely needs to be tried on. Hard to tell from the picture. Are the arms a chiffon material. With knock out shoes, a head piece, bold nails, great make up and a chic bunch of flowers it could possibly look great. Thinking Carrie in sex in the city vibe. Not done properly it could look shit.

HattieMid2 · 16/05/2020 09:33

I love long sleeves too and got my dress from ASOS for about £110 I think?

But I also saw some really nice ones on H&M website this morning Smile

connellwaldron · 16/05/2020 09:37

Impossible to say without knowing what you look like or how you would accessorise it. Could look fab. Could look not so fab.

onesmalldog · 16/05/2020 09:43

Yes!

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 16/05/2020 09:45

Impossible to tell.

I wouldn't buy from a company that showed so little interest in assisting the customer to choose. What prevents them from providing a perfectly normal variety of photos?

It could be lovely - in a better fabric and made to fit you.

Take the photo to a seamstress who can work to your budget. Find some heavy silk in the most flattering shade for your skin tone. Have a dress made to suit you in every detail.

dottiedodah · 16/05/2020 09:45

I really dont like it very much sorry OP! I think it is a matter of personal taste obviously ,but it doesnt do much for me !

Lucked · 16/05/2020 09:47

I think it looks like something a novice nun would wear to take her final vows.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 16/05/2020 09:47

(Obviously 'take' and 'find' would need modifying in light of current circumstances ...)

NameChange84 · 16/05/2020 09:48

I’m sorry OP but it’s awful.

It does look very “religious” and nun like. These images are LDS Temple dresses and a genuine costume from the Handmaids Tale worn for a birthing scene.

I think simple wedding dresses can be beautiful but that one is too matronly and cheap looking. I’ll dig around and see if I can find some nice, simple budget friendly dresses to give an idea of what I mean.

It wouldn’t be my style OP, but that’s not what matters. It would definitely help if they’d bothered to show what it looks like on! Agree you should buy it, try it on and take photos from various angles if you can, and then decide how you feel. I think if it’s ‘the one’ you’ll know.

BluebellsareBlue · 16/05/2020 09:55

If you are looking for budget friendly then ok, someone upthread said it was a low key wedding, I may have missed that post but just because it's lowkey doesn't mean you have to be understated in your dress. You are the bride 👰 you can be as ostentatious as you like. I just did a quick search for simple and with sleeves and I think this is nicer and says bride instead of 'grumpy' postulant in a nightie.
