Sorely tempted to order about £200 worth of Charlotte tilbury make up ... ridiculous as I'm in Scotland and think we'll be in lockdown forever or nice treat?

I went for a CT makeover. I was seriously not impressed. Style over substance.

violetbunny · 10/05/2020 21:44

I have a lot of her products and love most of them although there have been a few misses. Favorites are eyeshadow palletes and lipsticks.

Wolfgirrl · 10/05/2020 21:55

Place marking as I'm about to do exactly the same..

Nanasueathome · 10/05/2020 22:07

Have a look at Hourglass
I had a makeover at Charlotte Tilbury but then discovered the Hourglass range
I’m very impressed with them

MoltonSilver · 10/05/2020 22:11

I like the concealer. Could take or leave the rest

JoeExoticsEyebrowRing · 10/05/2020 22:11

I don't have any CT, but it's notoriously shite isnt it? Very pretty packaging but the products themselves aren't supposed to be great?

bloodyhellsbellsx · 10/05/2020 22:15

I was going to get a couple things from the pillow talk range but the reviews were shocking so I didn’t.

Glower · 10/05/2020 22:17

I have a few bits:

Starry Eyes to Hypnotise eyeshadow palette - Amazing eyeshadow formula (long lasting, easy to blend) and really beautiful packaging. Especially love the olive shades. Pricey though!

Bond Girl matte lipstick - Easy to wear considering it’s berry red. Smooth and not drying at all.

Valentine K.I.S.S.I.N.G lipstick - not a fan of this. Sinks into my fine lines and only works with lip liner. Was limited edition but I’d look at reviews before buying other shades in the same range.

Pillow Talk lip liner - A definite repurchase. Perfect ‘my lips but better’ pink shade. It’s quite waxy which might not be for everyone but it does make it long lasting.

Odd bits I’ve had samples of:

Goddess Clay Mask - nice enough but nothing special for the price.

Charlotte’s Magic Cream and Magic Night Cream - these made my skin look amazing the next day but out of my price range! There was a recent thread on them and most MNers didn’t rate them.

Scent of a Dream perfume - I’ve somehow collected endless samples for this! I really like it for a night out. Very strong, quite powdery and a bit old fashioned.

What are you thinking of buying? 👀

Picassosdove · 10/05/2020 22:22

I love the eyeshadow palettes. My favourite is 'the uptown girl'
Also love the airbrush flawless foundation, glowgasm blusher, full fat lashes , pink Venus lipliner and lipsticks.
However pillow talk is not great on me as a shade. It doesn't suit everyone. Magic cream moisturiser is not as good on my skin as Aldi Caviar.
Genuinely love most of the makeup though.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 10/05/2020 22:29

I haven’t rated a single thing from CT, and have tried eyeshadows, magic cream, lipsticks, and the face filter thing. My feeling is that budget went on promotion rather than the actual products! I also absolutely HATE the tone of the direct marketing emails, which were many until I unsubscribed.

Agree with pp that Hourglass products are much, much better.

PersonaNonGarter · 10/05/2020 22:30

I loved the colours but the quality of the products I ordered was so poor.

Viviennemary · 10/05/2020 22:35

I studied an old thread on lipsticks a while ago. Sad or what. Got Charlotte Tilbury pillowtalk lipstick and pillow talk blusher. Also treated myself to Tom Ford lipsticks. It was my birthday as don't usually spend so much on make up. All great.

RiverCrossing · 10/05/2020 23:18

The lipsticks and the eyeshadow palettes are great, I have matte lipsticks in pillow talk, walk of shame and stoned rose and love them all. The eyeshadows are easy to blend and I like how they target them for different eye colours. I can’t comment on other bits as I haven’t used them but these are excellent and I say that as someone who spends a lot of time and money investing in good quality make up!

PapsofJura · 10/05/2020 23:23

I had the foundation which was lovely but the colour/name would rub off and as they don’t keep your details on file it would mean having to go through the hassle of sitting in the shop whilst they tried all the testers on so I ended up swapping to Nars as I rarely have time to sit and wait.

That said, would recommend it!

AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea · 11/05/2020 07:32

Hmmm mixed reviews then. I really love the colours in the pillow talk range.
I'll have a look at some other brands before deciding.

I always try to buy the mystery boxes because they are great value, but personally I don't think that it is worth the money full price. Just in my opinion the products are nice enough, but there are plenty of other brands that are just as good. That said, if you can afford it and want a luxurious treat then why not Smile. Maybe have a look on YouTube for reviews, the ones not labelled ad are a lot more impartial!

peachypetite · 11/05/2020 07:38

I’d go for Bobbi brown any day over CT

JessicaDay · 11/05/2020 07:43

The stuff’s rubbish. Very poor quality for the price.

userabcname · 11/05/2020 07:44

I bought the lip mystery collection and love it! The pillow talk and stoned rose lipsticks are creamy and I like the colours. I have a diamond lipstick (can't remember the exact name) but it's really pretty! A lip liner which is actually one of the better ones I've tried. And a liquid lipstick which is the only thing I don't like (but I don't really get on with any liquid lips). I also have an eyeshadow palette and like it. I don't think the products are necessarily bad but they are over-priced really (luckily I got the palette using a gift voucher). I'd be very tempted by the pillow talk kit!

bananaface16 · 11/05/2020 07:48

One of the worst lipsticks I ever bought came from CT. Bought it as a treat for a wedding and ended up wearing a Rimmel one from my stash as the CT one was so patchy seconds after I applied it.

I’d have been concerned it was a fake if I hadn’t bought it in the Covent Garden shop.

Peonyonpoint · 11/05/2020 07:49

CT really expensive blusher was very flat on me, and broke into a million pieces after a couple of weeks.

I really disliked the Pillow Talk lipliner - colour very draining on me (light skin with yellow undertones). I bought a Kiko one which I use far more - CT one is lying unused in a drawer.

But I would die on a hill for Hourglass Ambient Powder in Dim Light.

Also - I have had FAR better results with Tarte makeup and they have loads of offers and ship for free from the US. Their man-eater mascara is like nothing else I've ever used (and I have done all the Dior ones and Lancome and Benefit ones). Really fun site and eyeshadows, blushers etc great quality. If you do some research there is a lot about colour matching foundations and their shape tape concealer online and also they do a massive money off deal twice a year).

I LOVE this:

tartecosmetics.com/EU/en_GB/makeup/cheeks/blush/amazonian-clay-12-hour-blush/236.html

And I've just noticed they have 30% off today. Also, I do not work for them! They're just a cut above.

JKScot4 · 11/05/2020 07:51

I wouldn’t spend £200 on makeup I’ve never tried, don’t fall for pretty photos.

ThunderR0ad78 · 11/05/2020 07:52

I spent the same - waste of money!

Krazynights34 · 11/05/2020 07:53

The Filmstar bronze and glow is definitely not worth it! Mind you I am pale - so it might work on Warmer skin tones. But it makes a barely discernible difference at any rate.
Magic cream is nice, works to plump up the skin, but I got a few spots from it (I am in peri menopause though).
I don’t like pillow talk - I don’t like the waxy lip liner and the colour is a bit peachy for me (it’s not the lovely pink colour that the adverts suggest).
Full fat lashes - I liked it but it gives me Panda eyes in no time at all.
Generally wouldn’t notice anything amazing about the blushers. I like the eye palettes but the colour matching to eyes only works if you don’t have an unusual eye colour (so only one combination worked for me).
I’m always tempted to try more stuff however - I think it’s the clever marketing!! But I spent over £100 on CT when I was having an awful time around Christmas- and gave all of it to my sister who compliments the colours more than I do
