Charlotte Tilbury make up

Sorely tempted to order about £200 worth of Charlotte tilbury make up ... ridiculous as I'm in Scotland and think we'll be in lockdown forever or nice treat?

It’s hit and miss I think. Some of the products are holy grail for me (Hollywood flawless filter, pillow talk lipliner the glowgasm wands in peachgasm and pinkgasm) but some I’ve tried doesn’t do anything for me like the foundations and mascara. I think any nude lipstick needs to be tried on to see if it suits you. Pillow talk looks brown on me but in love with Olivia is perfect.

I think that really that’s true of any makeup brand. There are By Terry and Hourglass products I love and some that leave me cold. I think that the annoying advertising mean that people are more extreme in their views about CT though.

I’d say if you like the products and want a treat then go for ones which you can make a judgement call of whether they’d suit you better from online swatches. So eyeshadows, blushers and brighter lip colours.

@Buggedandconfused I have literally just bought the Chanel Bronzer, it’s bloody gorgeous. Sali Hughes did an instagram video on it and next day John Lewis had 10% off - so I snapped it up!!!

MabelMoo23 · 11/05/2020 20:34

Another vote for Hourglass here. The Ambient powder is amazing as is Caution mascara

I have some CT but it’s so so expensive and very Emperors New Clothes and I also can’t bear the emails.

Buggedandconfused · 11/05/2020 20:37

@mabelmoo oooh! I’m going to have to get it!

I'm not seeing an eyeshadow palette that I like on Bobbi brown at all.

I do love this though so thanks to whoever suggested it up thread

I use the flawless filter and the film star glow and bronze and love both - replaced now about 3 times. The colour chameleon eye crayons are lovely (esp dark pearl), couple of the eyebrow things are good and I do like the collagen lip balm.

I don't like the lipsticks and haven't tried anything else, but the products I do like have become must haves for me.

Can anyone recommend any good "look in a box/bag" sets that are better than the Charlotte tilbury but the same kind of idea?

NameChange84 · 12/05/2020 09:13

I bought the kit in the makeup bag in your second picture.

I am sorely, sorely disappointed in CT products.

I spent £350 one birthday on a whole new makeup collection from them following a makeover in Covent Garden. High pressure sales and I was caught up in the hype.

Several of the products (eyebrow crayon and blusher) broke soon after purchase though I’m very careful. Customer services were great and sent two more which also broke at almost exactly the same point soon after.

I hated the foundation and primer. Mac, MFU HD, Double Wear, La Prairie and Lancôme foundations are all much much better for my skin. CT did nothing for my skin. The lipstick was ok but other companies are better. I’ve spent a lot of money over the years on high end cosmetics but in all honesty the lipsticks I end up using over and over again, and getting compliments on are L’Oréal, Revlon and Mac (which I only ever get free when returning empty packaging through Back2Mac). Bourgeois lip sticks and lip pencils can be lovely too.

The eye and lip liners were dry and dragged. The eye shadow palette is nice but not outstanding (HUDA is far better imo and also Bobby Brown).

Save your money. Everything I’ve bought from CT has been a humongous waste of money.

Clever marketing, pretty packaging...that’s all.

@AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea I love my Naked palette, I’ve had it for almost 4 years and reach for it every day even though I’ve used most of the shades, it’s fantastic quality and the packaging is so lovely. I want to try the Naked Cherry one too.

professionalnomad · 12/05/2020 12:12

I have the bronze and glow and an eyeshadow quad

CT does not make makeup for anyone that isn't very fair

The eyeshadow is not pigmented enough
The bronze and glow are incredibly odd shades with orange undertones that will suit no one

AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea · 12/05/2020 12:15

@Buggedandconfused it seems to be sold out everywhere except a website called feel unique. Is that a genuine stockist do you think? It's the same price as it is on urban decay.

@AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea Feel Unique is legitimate, yes. 👍

kshaw · 12/05/2020 12:19

I loved the magic concealer but the mascara was the worst I've ever used. Inc £1 ones....just dripped down my face

Buggedandconfused · 12/05/2020 12:20

Is it this one you are after @AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea ? It’s in stock in Boots

I have a lipstick I love, called the Queen and a chameleon eye stick I hate, it's very glittery and goes all over my face almost immediately after application.

One thing I dislike is the service on the counters, they couldn't be more bored if they'd tried, and it has actively put me off trying things there, but I suppose that won't be a problem now.

bitofabelly · 12/05/2020 13:27

Also agree that Morohe eye shadow palettes are highly pigmented with so much choice. Would definitely re-buy.

bitofabelly · 12/05/2020 13:27

Also like Anastasia Beverly Hills eye shadow palettes

bitofabelly · 12/05/2020 13:28

And you can't go wrong with the Naked Palettes..I own 3!

stayathomer · 12/05/2020 13:33

Is anyone else so ecstatic with this thread?! I've a pen and paper out, thanks OP and everyone!!!

MrsH497 · 12/05/2020 13:33

Not a fan of CT I like 1 lipstick and I wore it for my wedding other than that it's pretty packaging and really expensive.

Just discovered tarte and I'm really impressed. I like the fact you can buy minis (eg I have bought a mini liquid eyeliner to check it agrees with my eyes) the eyebrow gel had more than 2 colours as well which was fab! Yes it took a while to arrive currently but I'm impressed.
