Charlotte Tilbury make up

Sorely tempted to order about £200 worth of Charlotte tilbury make up ... ridiculous as I'm in Scotland and think we'll be in lockdown forever or nice treat?

*It's absolute overpriced shit. You're a fool if you do.

How about spending it on scrubs for key workers?

I'm all for treating oneself, but your post really made me feel a bit sick.*

Do you get a bit of a thrill from posting such sanctimonious shite?

You have no idea what’s going on in OP’s life. If someone wants to spend their presumably own, hard earned money on make up instead of whatever cause you decide is worthy enough, that’s not something worthy of derision.

Raaaa · 11/05/2020 10:36

@TerribleCustomerCervix I read that post you've quoted and thought the same!

If you have that much hatred maybe don't post

Lottapianos · 11/05/2020 10:38

'How about spending it on scrubs for key workers?'

Oh my lord. I've read some sanctimonious nonsense on this site but you get the prize! What a daft thing to say

OP, please feel free to spend your hard earned money on yourself. I have to agree with many others that CT is overpriced and overhyped, but please pay no attention to that sort of guilt tripping nonsense

AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea · 11/05/2020 10:39

Jeezo for your information I donate plenty of money to lots of different causes including the nhs. Not that that's got anything to do with make up.
Have I posted in AIBU instead of style and beauty? 😂😂

I buy the cream eyeshadow and that’s it. I can’t bear the advertising, it’s so patronising and insincere. The lipsticks I tested made my lips sore. I’d rather buy an Urban Decay Naked palette or get some Nars makeup.

Sandybval · 11/05/2020 10:48

Haha foxtrot oscar, people can spend their money how they wish. If it makes you feel sick I hope you are donating your entire paycheck to buying scrubs that the government should have bought. Guessing you're on the wind up though.

AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea · 11/05/2020 10:51

I mean, why even be on the style and beauty forum if you're against buying make up. Seems a weird place to hang out then get annoyed about people spending money on beauty Confused
Also, I AM a key worker although I'm working from home as I'm pregnant so I'm looking after my 3yo as well as working.
I deserve a treat 🖕🏻

I have that duo, blusher and highlighter, don't use it. Too sparkly, muddy. Prefer Hourglass.

Lipstick - Pillow Talk, drying and made me look like a corpse. The lip liner is just a lip liner.

The concealer was messy, prefer my Maybelline one.

The only 2 things I like are the blush in Love Glow, suits my colouring. Also the Hollywood filter used sparingly, too much and you look like a mannequin.

I will buy the blusher again but not bother to try anything else.

Hourglass, Bobbi Brown, Nars, ByTerry - all better quality with less tacky packaging/image.

Sandybval · 11/05/2020 11:12

OP the set seems a lot cheaper without the bag? Also check for discount codes, probably won't work with stuff already reduced, but I've just had a little Google and it seems that some are working.

AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea · 11/05/2020 11:17

I saw that @Sandybval but I think it's a different lipstick? A shimmery one?

I think given the reviews on here I'm not going to order.

I never buy expensive make up for some reason but have been considering treating myself for a while. Any time I've had my make up done professionally they've always used Mac and I've never really loved the products.

Will look into some of the other brands suggested here too 👍🏻

And this is why I will never leave Mumsnet, I would miss the batshittery far too much 😂

ShaniaPayne · 11/05/2020 11:27

Having had two CT counter makeovers now, I've come to the conclusion that if you're the sort of person who likes being complimented on your make-up, you will love it. There was so much product on my face it actually changed the way I talked.

If you just want to look like a glowier, prettier version of yourself, then go for Hourglass every time. I bought the Ghost powder palette in the SpaceNK sale and I use it every day: blush, setting powder, very subtle highlight, then bronzer as eye shadow. It's my most-used cosmetic thing, to my surprise.

(I also dislike CT's marketing tactic of young models caked in slap pulling sex doll faces, and the relentlessly gushy selling emails. But that's another thing.)

Raaaa · 11/05/2020 11:31

I do watch the tutorials on YouTube sometimes but she always uses beautiful young models with huge eyes, luscious lips and thick hair and somehow ends up caking their faces in all these different products

ClementineTangerine · 11/05/2020 11:35

I have to agree with the reviews on here - the only CT makeup I've tried was the pillow talk lipstick and I was actually shocked at how awful it looked on me. It was definitely not that lovely colour on me, it looked brown. It was also so heavy and thick and looked ridiculous.

Lottapianos · 11/05/2020 11:59

'I also dislike CT's marketing tactic of young models caked in slap pulling sex doll faces, and the relentlessly gushy selling emails'

Same here. Its cringey and far too try hard. I find her extremely irritating in interviews too - not that that would be here or there if I liked the products. Shes really old fashioned as a make up artist too - shovelling it on with a trowel, which is definitely a look, but not to everyone's taste

daisydaisydoodle · 11/05/2020 12:03

I would also recommend morphe products. Their palettes are really pigmented. I've got blusher, eyeshadow and a contour palette and they're all excellent. They often gave discounts on and they're very reasonably priced to begin with

Buggedandconfused · 11/05/2020 12:35

If I had some expendable £ at the moment I’d buy the Chanel Les Beiges bronzer. If it comes back in stock!

EachandEveryone · 11/05/2020 14:11

Her lipticks dont stay on and foundation too watery. Im not a fan.

peachypetite · 11/05/2020 14:20

@Buggedandconfused have you used the Chanel bronzer before?

Buggedandconfused · 11/05/2020 14:38

@peachypetite no, but it looks foolproof and sheer. I’ve seen a few people using it on Instagram and it looks lovely. Would be a mega treat for me though at the moment!

peachypetite · 11/05/2020 15:25

It looks amazing!

DKanin · 11/05/2020 15:28

They look really nice but I've had a few of their things and I did not rate them at all. Some were ok, some were awful. I felt the range is very much style over substance

Franticbutterfly · 11/05/2020 15:30

Don't do it! I don't rate the formulations or the colours.

EachandEveryone · 11/05/2020 15:56

I much prefer MAC to be honest.

Sushiroller · 11/05/2020 16:26

I bought the mystery box recently i was pretty meh about everything in it tbh
This included the mascara, the miracle cream or whatever it's called and the duo cleanser

Majorly underwhelmed much prefer mac
