Royal style: Max and Wax and whacky hats

Now that the Commonwealth event is nearly over, we have another treat ahead of us. Maxima in Indonesia!

In light of what happened on the previous thread, I'm going to take a leaf out of Elizabeth SMT Holmes' book and say critique the clothes and the styling but not the physical appearances of various royal women.

Eem... I quite like Max's hat. Grin

Runs before you can pelt me with Max's jewellery collection - on second thoughts, I'm game to collect a few bits and pieces before I leg it. Wink

Haworthia · 10/03/2020 17:59

Just saw the Tiptree photos - we went there over half term. There’s even a little jam museum Grin

DevonUkelele · 10/03/2020 18:02

Zara always brings her A game to the races.

Sophie's a bit of a fail there after her Abbey triumph. Those pants 😫, although the jacket is nice enough. And Edward surely every inch the (slightly dressed up) country gent. At least the jacket is single-breasted, and mostly fits.

DevonUkelele · 10/03/2020 18:03

Sorry, *trousers ( must remember the company I am in).

frugalkitty · 10/03/2020 18:22

Do you know what I find weird? That whatever either Kate or Meghan wear, someone has to try to link it to Diana. Meghan's dress yesterday was nothing like Diana's maternity dress in the photo, but do journalists really think they go through old pics and think 'ooh, I know, if I wear a green dress it will be a lovely tribute to the MIL I never knew' Gives me the grump it goes.

Spudlet · 10/03/2020 18:28

It’s ridiculous, isn’t it? And never ending - Diana was photographed so often that they’ll always be able to find something (as long as the parameters are as vague as saying Meghan’s dress looked anything like that green maternity getup) 🙄

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/03/2020 18:29

It must be very annoying to have so many elements you wear regarded as a tribute to your dead MIL @frugalkitty. Usually is fairly laughable; pity the poor interim looking for random pictures of Diana every day.

frugalkitty · 10/03/2020 18:35

The jewellery I can understand, there's a connection to that, but I'm pretty sure the duchesses don't actively try to copy the clothes. All very odd.

AdaColeman · 10/03/2020 18:42

Yes, I agree that the constant “tribute” clothing articles are laughable. They are simplistic in the extreme, and a sign of lazy journalism I would say. The only reaction that comparison of the green outfits deserves is 🙄 🥱.

AdaColeman · 10/03/2020 18:47

I feel rather sorry for Edward going to a jam factory for his birthday, they should have sent him to a wine merchant or a whiskey distillery!
Wine Wine

BlingLoving · 10/03/2020 18:55

Yes, I agree that the constant “tribute” clothing articles are laughable. completely agree. Short of them actually wearing one of Diana's dresses, tribute is ridiculous. Otherwise every time I put on a pair of cream trousers I'd be doing so in tribute to my mother!

latedecember1963 · 10/03/2020 18:57

I like Edward's jacket and tie combo. The colours suit him.

Spudlet · 10/03/2020 18:57

I myself am wearing a pair of jeans today, in personal tribute to a large percentage of people for at least two generations. Probably more.

I’m generous with my tributes, me.

Rhubarbisevil · 10/03/2020 19:00

Maybe Edward is very fond of jam!

Or maybe Nanny said “Jam tomorrow, jam yesterday” and Edward said “But it is my birthday” and she relented and said “oh, go on then.”

AdaColeman · 10/03/2020 19:02

I’m not keen on the tour outfits that Max has worn so far, and usually I love her looks, even the kooky ones!

mrscampbellblackagain · 10/03/2020 19:04

Zara does look great - she does the whole country lady look really well.

I feel like we need some nice shots of the royal cousins and their children off duty together having fun. I think it is sad that Harry won't have that any more or at least it appears he won't.

Haworthia · 10/03/2020 19:07

They do make excellent jam, to be fair. I bet they got to take home a few jars Grin

LadyEloise · 10/03/2020 19:10

Oh dear Sophie what were you thinking wearing those ghastly, leg shortening, pelvis widening trousers and Edward has dressed like a 75+ year old, after playing a blinder yesterday.

FiveTwoFaster · 10/03/2020 19:43

Sophie’s trousers do look less than good but the coat is nice - and suitably good at mostly covering the trousers...

MotherofPearl · 10/03/2020 20:15

I agree about Sophie's trousers but I really like what I can see of her boots. They're a lovely colour and I like the round toe.

ElspethFlashman · 10/03/2020 20:17

Edward looks better than Sophie there. She's just dressed in various shades of sludge. Confused

thisenglishlife · 10/03/2020 20:20

Similar Kate/Diana looks

I’m still amused by the fact that Edward (who is an Earl rather than a Duke) is called Edward Antony Richard Louis. So his initials spell “EARL” sorry - not related to clothes at all.

StCharlotte · 10/03/2020 20:30

Love Zara's outfit (she always gives good "races" - it's obviously her happy place) and especially the headpiece, but then I loved Camilla's wedding headpiece). Also love Max's outfit, even the hat-thing.
