Now that the Commonwealth event is nearly over, we have another treat ahead of us. Maxima in Indonesia!

In light of what happened on the previous thread, I'm going to take a leaf out of Elizabeth SMT Holmes' book and say critique the clothes and the styling but not the physical appearances of various royal women.

He has been exposed to someone who has it, not sure if he was tested by the NHS or paid privately though.

paradyning · 16/03/2020 21:57

See I like her hair in that pic. That was the night Mandela died and they were v sombre just after that

QueenOfTheAndals · 16/03/2020 22:09

Yes I remember that. Her face in that shot is hilarious but to be fair I'd probably look the same if I met Idris!

I'm sure I've posted this before but here's 33 iconic royal wedding dresses. I figure we need something to get our minds off the dreaded plague! Hope you are all staying safe and well.

Wallis Simpson had her faults but she was the epitome of chic on her wedding day and I think her dress could still be worn today.

I'm with you SpokeTooSoon!

I quite like Lady Helen (of) Windsor. It's a bit weird, but I like it.

I really didn't like Diana's dress. The Iran one was nice.

I don't think I'd seen Mette Marit's dress before. I love it.

Madeleines is hideous. Sorry.

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/03/2020 11:00

Mette Marit's dress was gorgeous and reminded me a bit of Sarah Chatto's. Madeleine's dress wasn't great, but she looked beautiful. I think she was pregnant with her first child at the time, and she seems to be one of those women who are radiant when pregnant.

Just what we needed Queen Smile a great distraction.

LadyEloise · 17/03/2020 15:45

I loved Diana's dress - when she got out at St. Pauls she was the epitome of a princess. I'm probably the only fan. Blush
I love CPM's dess.
I would have expected Q Rania's to be nicer as she is so chic.
Madeleine's was ghastly as was the Queens.
Marie Chantsl's was not as nice as I would have expected.

So many different stories to be told when you look at those wedding day photos.
Some happy, some very sad.
It's good sometimes that we can't see into the future.

AppleKatie · 17/03/2020 16:10

I would have expected Q Rania's to be nicer as she is so chic.

This is very often the case- the most stylish of people loose their minds over a wedding dress.

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/03/2020 17:32

Even Letizia's wasn't great and looked really crumpled. Maxima's wasn't featured but her dress was surprisingly simple!

I came on to post this pic of Eugenies dress I saw today, it really shows how beautiful the gown was.
My favourite dresses were Sarah Chattos, Princess Grace and Lady Helen's. I liked Helen's flowers too, the way they draped over her wrist (I had the same colours in my bouquet Flowers)

Madeleine's was ghastly as was the Queens.

But we’re judging by today’s standards. The Queen was married in 1947. I should imagine her dress was quite spectacular then.

Laiste · 17/03/2020 19:51

LadyEloise you're not alone!!

I love/d Diana's dress. I was about 12 when they got married and sat and watched it all on TV with my mum. She was horrified by the dress but i was in AWE. That creamy colour and so much of it all! Even the creases as it all fell out of the carriage - just made it look even more pillowy and weirdly magical Grin

LadyEloise · 17/03/2020 20:50

Oh delighted you liked it too Laiste.
Pillowy and magical. A fantastic description.
I think the Emmanuels were wrongly villified for it.
It was simply magical.

UkuleleRose · 17/03/2020 21:09

I was a year younger than Diana when she married and I adored, and still do, her wedding dress. Lace, sparklies, train, more lace, plus that glittering tiara - it all came together for me. :-)

UkuleleRose · 17/03/2020 21:15

I love Princess Claire's, too.

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/03/2020 21:39

Both Claire and Stephanie wore Elie Saab, who's also a favourite with their MiL.

frugalkitty · 17/03/2020 22:05

Kate's needed some of the sparkle that Diana's had, the needlework was beautiful close up but on camera it was very flat. Diana had a glow walking down the aisle, she just sparkled.

My Sindy doll had a Diana wedding dress!

Horsemad · 17/03/2020 22:33

I loved Diana's dress, very apt description above by @Laiste. 🙂

SenecaFallsRedux · 17/03/2020 22:37

Princess Claire's is one of my favorites.

AdaColeman · 17/03/2020 22:50

I loved Diana’s dress, the colour, the lace, the ruffles, the fabulous sleeves, the amazing tulle train, I even liked the creases!

There is a wonderful photo of her sitting on some red steps with the frock floating all around her, and her lovely smile lighting up her face. If only the dreams and promises of that photo had come true!

frugalkitty · 17/03/2020 23:45

Ada I know which photo you mean. All relaxed and crashed out after the day, really natural. She was such a beauty, the camera loved her.

I knew the coronavirus thing was weighing heavily on my mind when , at 3am, I woke up worrying.... WILL PRINCESS BEATRICE HAVE TO CANCEL THE WEDDING 👸
