Royal style: Max and Wax and whacky hats

Now that the Commonwealth event is nearly over, we have another treat ahead of us. Maxima in Indonesia!

In light of what happened on the previous thread, I'm going to take a leaf out of Elizabeth SMT Holmes' book and say critique the clothes and the styling but not the physical appearances of various royal women.

Very sensible the authorities do not need the headache of security at the moment.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 13/03/2020 18:13

That’s a good move to cancel the trips,

DevonUkelele · 13/03/2020 18:41

Some fabulous Phillips et al races looks here.

Zara looks ace - great colour, the jacket is a good fit and the hat is excellent. Even Mike’s top half is good (I’m not sure about his blue trousers with the rest of it).

Peter and Autumn look good too - love her overcoat.

And Anne nailing it. Not sure about Tim’s look - although the tie seems to have jockey’s colours on it so 🤷🏼‍♀️.

I prefer that on Zara but it still looks too tight over her bust.

Nice to see Peter and Autumn looking happy - conscious uncoupling.

FATEdestiny · 13/03/2020 19:02

Who is that with Autumn?

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/03/2020 19:06

That's Peter Phillips @FATEdestiny, though I had to zoom in to see that!

A much better look on Zara, coat and hat are both good.

Love the outfits in those pics, Devon, Zara looks great, the colour really suits her.

NoGravyForYou · 13/03/2020 19:14

I love Autumn's pink hat. Not sure if I could pull it off though.

Zara looks great today.

DevonUkelele · 13/03/2020 19:30

The thing with hats, @NoGravyForYou, I find anyway, is just to find one you like and the right occasion and go for it.

I’ve got a cloche-style one I bought for winter racing last year and felt like I was chancing it a bit when I first wore it. Then I got a couple of compliments, so it was all good ;)

Actually, I like all their hats in those pics - Zara’s is the best for mine. But autumn’s and Anne’s are good too.

And, yes, it’s interesting to see Autumn and a Peter together. Good on them!

Here’s another pic that I couldn’t upload before. Hats!

Good that the Phillipses (sp?) look so amicable.

Wetdogloveshubert · 13/03/2020 20:59

The pictures of the Philips are lovely - they're looking very at ease with one another, so I'd hope it's just a falling out of love.

I agree @DevonUkelele, I suit hats, but lack occasion and courage to wear them!

frugalkitty · 13/03/2020 21:17

Do you remember shops like Debenhams and John Lewis having big hat sections? I used to love trying all the hats on. My mum doesn't 'do' hats, but I love them and back in Diana years there were always lots of wedding hats to try on.

StartupRepair · 13/03/2020 21:31

Anne just exudes such utter confidence in whatever she wears. There is not one atom of approval seeking. Wish all women (including me) felt like that.

EmGee · 13/03/2020 21:39

frugal yes!!!!!!! Great fun

LadyEloise · 13/03/2020 22:56

Zara, Autumn and Anne look great but I still think that Cheltenham shouldn't have gone ahead.

AudacityOfHope · 13/03/2020 23:26

I love Autumn's hat!

Wetdogloveshubert · 14/03/2020 10:27

@frugalkitty me too. I adored trying on all the hats on trips out with my Mum.

I agree @StartupRepair, if I felt like Anne seems to every day I'd be a much happier person. We need to WWAD? (What would Anne do) or BMA (be more Anne).

latedecember1963 · 14/03/2020 10:53

I still love trying on fancy hats! 👒

MotherofPearl · 14/03/2020 11:21

I don't mean this to sound as frivolous and heartless as it might, but I fear we are going to be badly deprived of royal fashion for the foreseeable future. I can't see that there will be many public engagements happening, quite understandably. I suppose it's the least of our worries at the moment, but would be a welcome distraction.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/03/2020 12:05

Yes i agree @MotherofPearl. I can't see the Japanese state visit happening now and apparently even the Trooping of the Colour (surely something H&M would've returned for?) is in doubt. Let's face it, HM, her cousins, the DoE and even Charles and Camilla fall into the most vulnerable category for coronavirus.

We may be looking at a royal style drought until Beatrice's wedding!

I love this coat on Zara, one of my favourite colours. Lovely fit on her and she had some killer heels on too.

Laiste · 14/03/2020 16:44

Is the wedding scheduled already?

I too was surprised the racing went ahead.

Laiste · 14/03/2020 16:46

Zara looks so good in that last outfit. I don't know if it's because of the cut or the colour, but it makes her look about 2 stone lighter.

(disclaimer: women needn't look slim to look good ect.)

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/03/2020 17:07

@Laiste 29 May at St James Palace, I think,

On the ahem DM website we got the full low down on what she was wearing, by whom, so obviously " work" for her.
I know we usually read who/ what/ by whom re what DoC and DoS wears but this was different in tone read like Zara was being "sponsored" by said firms.
