Royal style: Max and Wax and whacky hats

Now that the Commonwealth event is nearly over, we have another treat ahead of us. Maxima in Indonesia!

In light of what happened on the previous thread, I'm going to take a leaf out of Elizabeth SMT Holmes' book and say critique the clothes and the styling but not the physical appearances of various royal women.

The dress is, not her hair 🙈

AdaColeman · 10/03/2020 23:34

There is just nothing good to say about that ghastly caramel/mustard dress. What was she thinking?

StCharlotte · 10/03/2020 23:38

Not pink. Agree with pp. Definitely Caramac.

Incredibly unflattering (even worse than the flammable looking white skirt). Would like to o see Leti in it just to see if it looks good on anyone.

SussexRoyalTies · 11/03/2020 06:49

Or Kate? If it can’t look good on Kate then it can’t look good on anyone.

Spudlet · 11/03/2020 07:28

Oooh, that is not a great dress... there’s a clip on their Instagram stories and it does look slightly better in motion, but it’s still not the best.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/03/2020 07:46

Here's the dress

I can see it looks more toffee coloured on Net a Porter so I guess it's just my phone making it look pink!

That dress is dreadful. The colour & style are just grim.

StartupRepair · 11/03/2020 07:51

Lot of money for 100% polyester. Plus it is hideous.

Rhubarbisevil · 11/03/2020 08:11

Ah, I see the problem with the dress - it is too long for Meghan’s torso which is why it has bunched up instead of lying flat and elongating the profile. This is where a seamstress needs to tweak the off the peg outfits to make them fit perfectly.

Still not a fan of pleated polyester though. You wouldn’t want to wear it to a candle lit supper.

MotherofPearl · 11/03/2020 08:16

Another non-fan of the toffee dress here. Nylon: yuk.

ElspethFlashman · 11/03/2020 08:23

To be fair, it even looks horrible on the model on NAP. I wouldn't even have clicked on it in the first place.

I normally like that label, but that's an epic fail from them.

mistermagpie · 11/03/2020 08:39

Yep, that's a bad dress. That and Kate's cabbage one are both ones that can go to the charity shop in my opinion! Her hair is nice though.

Zara always looks nice at the races, I like her hat.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/03/2020 08:56

At least the cabbage dress was silk! The one is 100% polyester.

The back is very odd and there’s some weird seam thing on the hip that looks very strange

TheNavigator · 11/03/2020 10:16

The best thing I can say about that hideous dress is that it's the colour I like my cup of tea to be. Grin agreed. Meghan is beautiful enough to look good in a tattie sack, but that doesn't mean she has to literally try.

Max's hat makes me think of the eccentric monstrosities favoured by Princess Ann back in the say.

blablablablablablabla · 11/03/2020 11:02

Andrew Parker Bowles is Zara's Godfather.

hopeishere · 11/03/2020 11:03

Dreadful dress. Colour. Style. Fit. What was she thinking.

banivani · 11/03/2020 11:37

Now I wouldn't pay 900 euro for it but at least it's interesting! I don't love the back, but I like the front. Issey Miyake makes posh polyester too and I secretely lust for one of his pleat garments.

queenofarles · 11/03/2020 12:41

Missed so much!!

I actually like the toffee dress, it has something! But too expensive for poly.

I think asymmetrical cuts are to Meghan what coat dresses are to Kate?

The Green Wickstead dress looked very dress up, Something Mrs Coulter from HDM would wear!

Still can’t get the love for Sophie’s dress, Confused .

SenecaFallsRedux · 11/03/2020 12:59

Meghan's dress reminds me of that Norland nanny uniform, mainly because of the color. Not a good look.

allibaby · 11/03/2020 14:08

The more I see of that Toffee colour dress the more it's growing on me.
I quite like it now 😊

frugalkitty · 11/03/2020 14:33

I think it looks nicer on Meghan than the model online. It's the kind of dress that if my DD had designed in textiles would be marked as 'having potential' Grin I like the top, with a different neckline admittedly, and I think the colour looks good on Meghan. It's the bottom half that doesn't work for me.

thisenglishlife · 11/03/2020 15:19

If it can’t look good on Kate then it can’t look good on anyone
There's many designs I can think of that wouldn't look the best on Kate, but would look good on other figures (although, most clothes probably do look good on Kate).

mrscampbellblackagain · 11/03/2020 15:37

Seneca it is very Norland and we have a plethora of those uniforms round these parts.

I think the colour would have looked great if she had worn it as a leather skirt and silk shirt - like the green outfit she did a while back which looked lovely on her.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 11/03/2020 15:53

Camilla's looking good at the races today she's got her boots on again Grin
