So excited about my new handbag

I went to my first Aspinal outlet sale in London today.

Whatever you buy is as seen and you can't return it.

I attach a photo of the bag I bought. It wasn't the bag I was hoping to get, but I never thought I'd be able to acquire the one I actually did buy.

What do you all think? It was definitely worth the train/tube/half a mile walk in the absolutely pouring rain because I wasn't sure exactly where the shop was. I'm just sitting here sort of stroking it and deciding when its first outing will be.

So excited about my new handbag

I love bags! Don’t buy fancy shoes, don’t drink or smoke, get my nails done or buy designer clothes just love having a new bag from time to time.
Every year I visit my son in New York and choose a new one from Macy’s bargain section. I take ages choosing, I have been known to buy more than one...

user1468766051 · 07/03/2020 22:41

😍😍 What a lovely bag! So nice to have something special- enjoy!

MimiLaRue · 07/03/2020 22:43

@Soontobe60

Classy comment. I know exactly why people like you make mean spirited comments on positive threads like this, where people are simply talking about things that bring them joy. It gives you feelings of superiority that you spend your money differently and therefore think you're somehow "better" than those who spend their money on bags. Its all about your bragging rights! Well, I will spend my money how I damn well choose and I'm quite sure you spend money on things that I and others would think are an utter waste. Be gone! go crawl back under the rock from where you came.

hammeringinmyhead · 08/03/2020 07:13

I love it, OP! Gorgeous colour and shape. I can't wait to get my Mulberry bags back out once I'm not toting around a toddler in a buggy.

SpeckledyHen · 08/03/2020 07:36

Beautiful bag OP . My bags bring a smile to my face every time I use them and I hope this is the same for you .

I funded my collection of preloved Mulberry bags by not buying lunch in the subsidised canteen on workdays . £750 per year for 3 years got me a lovely stash :) . I capped my collection at one month’s salary value.

Now selling a few off , even at a profit so a great way to spend my hard earned dosh in my view . Practical items , used daily that bring joy and cost very little long term if your buy sensibly.

ReginaGeorgeous · 08/03/2020 07:40

Florence is a beauty, and what a bargain! I do love a good bag thread.

Ardnassa · 08/03/2020 07:48

Aspinal bags are a thing of wonder. And soontobe60, please do go and spread your (entirely unwarranted, I would hazard a guess, superiority complex - and bitterness? - somewhere else).

Aspinal was the first brand that made me appreciate how much harder wearing good quality leather bags are. They are just so sturdy (and lovely). And they are so hard to scratch or get out of shape.

Ardnassa · 08/03/2020 07:49

Sigh. Lost track of my parentheses. I am putting down mumsnet and getting myself some caffeine!

Soontobe60 · 08/03/2020 08:48

@MimiLaRue
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I do buy things that others may think are expensive, it’s all relative. I just don’t brag about it, because that’s tasteless. Neither would I tell a stranger to ‘crawl back under a rock’ implying they’re a piece of low life. That’s just plain ignorant.

Soontobe60 · 08/03/2020 08:54

@Ardnassa
Yep, if you’re going to be nasty, make sure your brackets are in the right place.
I’m not superior, nor am I bitter. I can’t see how my comments make me either of those things. I’m no better, or worse, than anyone else.

ShirleyPhallus · 08/03/2020 09:00

Who has been bragging about having an expensive handbag? Confused

NiteFlights · 08/03/2020 09:14

Why do handbags come under such fire for judgment compared to other treat goods?

One reason - and I’m not saying this is Soon’s reason - is that it’s (mainly) women who have expensive bags, therefore they are frivolous, unlike expensive cars, bikes, Premier League football season tickets etc which are (mainly) a man thing.

I’m not into expensive bags myself but can still appreciate a nice one - OP your Florence is gorgeous. I love that very classic style and also the colour. If you’d paid full price i would secretly think you were a bit nutty but for £275 - nice Smile

DameXanaduBramble · 08/03/2020 09:37

Fuck me...Even this thread about lovely bags has descended into nastiness. This place is full of argumentative twats at the moment. Is it Coronavirus anxiety, I wonder?

Ardnassa · 08/03/2020 09:45

@Soontobe60 Your lack of self-awareness is astounding. Anyone talking the time to leap in to criticise a post for being "tasteless" is definitely emanating an I-am-better-than-you attitude. You very much feel yourself superior to those who spend money on a bag and then "brag" about it.

Maybe take some time out of your Sunday to reflect upon that? HTH.

MimiLaRue · 08/03/2020 09:59

I just don’t brag about it,

Noone in this thread is bragging- the OP is excited she got a bag she loves and wanted to share and it was a positive thread until you showed up. The only person bragging about their superiority in this thread is you. So yes, I stand by my comment- you came on this thread purely to drag it down to your nasty, bitter level with your negativity, mean spiritedness and spite. Thats the height of ignorance. Go away.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 08/03/2020 10:03

Why come on a handbag thread just to be nasty?! I don't get some people. Just scroll on if you're not interested.

OP you do not need to justify spending your money however you please.

TheYearOfTheDog · 08/03/2020 10:09

@chocolatesaltyballs22 I love that.

Batfinklestein · 08/03/2020 10:10

There’s always one nasty commenter on threads like this. FFS, if you can afford it and it makes you happy then why not buy yourself a lovey handbag!
I personally only buy decent leather handbags as others just don’t last and look scruffy quickly. I usually get a Coach bag each yeah in the winter sale, but have been tempted by Aspinal too.
It’s gorgeous OP, I hope you enjoy her!

TheYearOfTheDog · 08/03/2020 10:11

The hate on handbags annoys me. I"ve bought a lovely handbag (for the first time in my LIFE, and I'm staring right down the barrel of fifty, so it's a long life).
Nobody ever says to a man, did you need that audi a6 would an a3 have done for you?

Exasperating.

I need to have a ''defense'' ready in case anybody comments on my handbag, knowing xh or brother or any male will never be put on the spot and forced to justify spending half as much again on a car as they really needed to.

Batfinklestein · 08/03/2020 10:12

It doesn’t make you a better person if you don’t buy yourself expensive treats!
You do you and leave other people to enjoy what they enjoy.

TheYearOfTheDog · 08/03/2020 10:18

@IloveJudgeJudy I hear you completely! I had such a long time of not having a cent to spare. I still don't have a lot of money. But I love handbags, the one I bought is gorgeous, it makes me happy when I look at it, it's like a functional piece of art. It was also a bit symbolic to me. My self-esteem had to develop after I left my x, I had nothing, no ''status'' no income, just two tiny toddlers and a never ending job hunt that couldn't cover childcare. I've got in to the habit of never treating myself. But now I'm 50 and with grants, I think/hope I have enough saved to send both kids to university if that's what they choose. I have my house, my secure job, a teeny tiny pension even. For ONCE IN MY LIFE I WANT A TREAT, and I need to take my foot off the break for a moment and allow it. Wine

What @NiteFlights says in her post is absolutely spot on.

IloveJudgeJudy · 08/03/2020 10:23

@TheYearOfTheDog what bag did you buy? I'd love to see a photo if you've got one.

OP posts:
TheYearOfTheDog · 08/03/2020 10:28

I'm outing myself here! Because I"m going to be strutting around flaunting this.
It might not be to everybody's taste but it was the bag I first noticed and picked up in a shop and thought holy moly that's expensive but I still love it. I have been trying to fall in love with a cheaper bag for years and this is still my favourite.

I love the way it folds in on itself, it's got an oragami feel to it, I just love it

I was out last night and I wanted to give it its own chair as well so I laughed at your picture of your bag on the table!

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 08/03/2020 10:28

Gratuitous pics of some of my other beautiful bags coming up, just to piss off the haters! 😂

So excited about my new handbag

Ninkanink · 08/03/2020 10:29

Some people are just so tediously and excruciatingly desperate to bolster their own sense of worth. It’s transparent every time and I find it pitiful. Never mind the overt misogyny, which is never a good look.

Anyhow, I’m glad Florence got an outing!

I’ve got two different Mayfairs on my radar for my birthday this year and it will be really difficult to make the final decision on which to go for.

My beautiful bags make me very happy, and I shall continue letting them spark joy in my life!
