Bread... I always thought I'd go nowhere for bread, and then I ended up in a lovely Lebanese restaurant in Dubai where the pita was freshly made.

XingMing · 13/05/2020 22:14

If I was told to eat a single country's food for ever more, I think Lebanese would be my first choice.

Floisme · 15/05/2020 10:13

I went to a LARP market event a couple of years - or was it a couple of lifetimes? ago. To be honest I was expecting a lot of school-play-costume stuff, and there was a bit of that, but they also had some beautifully made clothes. I remember lingering a long time over a hand made kilt and some shirts that I couldn't quite afford at the time and thinking never mind, I can save up and come back next next year.....

quirkychick · 15/05/2020 14:13

Some LARP stuff turns up on my Pinterest feed every so often (probably after searching ways to wear tartan). It all looks very beautiful.

bani, there was definitely a sewing machine involved in those mini skirts, some were straight style and some skater, I think I had paid so little in the charity shops I had nothing left to lose. I do remember some girls (6th form, so no uniform) using upholstery fabric, which wax often patterned velvets or brocade. Worn with spiky hair, black wool opaques and doc martens (late 80s).I do remember tube skirts too.

That lobster roll looks delicious! I was lucky enough to work with a Turkish woman who was an amazing cook. She was always asked to cater for training days etc. her stuffed vine leaves were made from fresh vines from the garden. I think I would be twice the size if I lived on it, though. We have been having lots of Mediterranean style mezze/tapas/antipasti, which has made family lunches easy. Just put out lots of olives, salad, cheese, etc. each day.

banivani · 15/05/2020 15:21

I’ve never had a lobster roll. Post the recipe for that bread there Bo that’s a good girl 👍

We’re going to an Asian buffet tonight (our son’s favourite) and I haven’t eaten all day so looking forward to this. ;) Even though it’s nothing special really.

Wanted to post a video I was watching on YouTube about Chanel couture

Also I got a newsflash from H&M and they are going in for broderie anglaise this season. I really liked the attached dress, all cotton at a ridiculously low price - who in Bangladesh is being ripped off I wonder. I don’t wear pure white but I’d be tempted to get it and dye it 😬. I love BA. I have a black skirt I haven’t worn for years because I don’t know about the shape, but it seems to be sort of in now so maybe I’ll try it out this summer.

The second dress is posted because isn’t the shape very odd? Something mad going on there with the top half?

Hello my Parisiennes, I am still here occasionally lurking but I am not going to attempt to follow the interesting conversations that I have missed.
Had a few very busy weeks working (wfh), and with health problems in my close family it was all very worrying specially as I wouldn’t have been able to jump in a plane like in our previous lives. Luckily they seem over the worse now and back at home.
My main entertainment is still gardening and I am creating a ‘wild’ corner which contrary to popular belief is nor wild nor let it happen on its own, it requires careful management... is coming out well so far, but I am ordering some seeds to plug, as is in a sunny corner I want to create a hazy view from my house like a soft painting.

In terms of fashion I don’t think I can report anything... other than this week would have been Chelsea Flower show, but I might do a social distancing meet up with my friend that I would have been there and I might wear a dress / attire with flowers, it is supposed to be warm. Maybe my silk Rixo skirt I bought in Paris and I have not worn yet?
Or I was thinking a long flowery dress I bought in Mexico years ago.
Lovely to see you all again SmileFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowers

botemp · 17/05/2020 11:00

Hello again Red, I was wondering if all was well with you on your absence. Good to hear your family member is on the mend again. My edible garden is going slow but I suspect it'll all go up a notch with the warmer weather from now on. I'm receiving 20 strawberry plants this week, bit late in the season but I'm assured they'll deliver fruit in 6-8 weeks.

Bani I only have a short hand version at the moment and I think my success with it was more down to technique and specific ingredients (fresh yeast and a specific flour type I do not really know the equivalent of) than recipe. But I'll get to typing it up soon.

Have you survived the Asian buffet, there's a terrifying from Japan about buffets doing the rounds Shock

The fit on the second dress is just weird and it's so transparent the pleating construction is overly prominent. I'm getting a bit annoyed with all the nun but make it fashion looks. How am I supposed to scandalise a Pope in that Hmm

Floisme · 17/05/2020 11:25

Sorry to hear about your family Red. We also have a family member who's ill and it's really brought it home to me how lockdown can be a risky, dangerous thing in its own right, and made me much more sympathetic to those protesting against it.

Sorry bo I had to stop watching that virus spreading video. My head is in the sand and I like it that way. Off to watch bani's Chanel video instead - love a bit of couture.

Redandblue11 · 17/05/2020 20:18

Oh strawberries 🍓 nothing beats that Bo.

I watched the channel video that Bani posted and now I want a channel jacket, I have 3 imitation, well they are not imitation just that style and I have to say I love the style and I think they really suit me. But I haven’t worn them this year ...

banivani · 17/05/2020 20:22

Sorry about your family Red, glad to see you pop by though. Your garden sounds lovely and I’d love to see some floral clothes if you have time to snap some pictures 😍

Bo I’ll look forward to the recipe! And yes I survived the buffet, it’s a very decent sort of buffet on the whole. They had done their best with hand sanitizer at the entrance, taped distancing on the floors and only ever other table had seating. But of course swedes don’t care and walk back and forth in the buffet line 🙄 ah well. Junior ate his own body weight in sushi and I ate mine in dumplings. Very unsure if it’s a good idea to watch that video now 😉 I have also this weekend eaten a load of the new Ben and Jerry’s flavour Netflix Chill’d and highly recommend it. But it’s not at all very parisienne haha.

Nun but fashion aye indeed! But sure if they’re that transparent it’ll be scandalising surely.

botemp · 17/05/2020 22:27

Don't talk to me of ice cream, my clothes are sitting far too tightly as it is. Not very Parisienne at all, luckily I apparently looked like a hipster Japanese restaurant worker today. White wide trousers from Cos (bought last year in Paris have posted pics of it here often) and dark denim Levi's long sleeved shirt, headband in my hair and t-bar sandals. Didn't remember to take a pic, not my usual get up but I liked it. It was indeed quite Japanese, not that I'll fool anyone.

In Italy the nuns do wear quite thin material, I've seen many a bin's undergarments through it. Utterly sexless, but some weirdo will find it a turn on.

OP posts:
botemp · 17/05/2020 22:28

Nun's not bin's 🙊 stupid AC. I'm sure bin's have visible undergarments too, I just never see those, thankfully.

OP posts:
banivani · 18/05/2020 14:32

I remember the white Cos trousers! It all does sound very Japanese ;) The plastic bag rolled over the top of the bin = visible bra strap?

Redandblue11 · 18/05/2020 16:01

Thank you for the kind words re my family member.

I love the Japanesse vibe of your outfit Bo!

Bani wanted flowers! I thought to do my own Chelsea and wear every day some outfit with flowers/botanical theme. Here is a partial view of an old Zara blouse that I never really worn much, m I am wearing it with a washed denim miniskirt.

Lots of lovely sounding outfits. I've repurposed a chambray shirt/dress that is on its last legs and I normally wear with slim jeans or faux leather leggings as a summery cover up by wearing it loose over top and trousers. It has a ruched waist but somehow works undone.

We have loads of wild strawberries in our garden, bo. I moved a few into pots as they grow along the drive and I didn't fancy them full of exhaust fumes. I just need to pick them before the birds do.

Sorry to hear about your family member, red.

botemp · 18/05/2020 18:59

quirky, I've been contemplating ordering wild strawberry plants too as I love them but can only ever find them in France or Italy (in the shops, they grow in the wild here but the wild is pretty urban so who knows what pissed on them). From what I can gather they don't yield all that much and space is at a premium. I do have some in an online shopping basket though so if you can barely keep up with eating them I may just press buy now already 😬

I think the Japanese vibe came from the denim shirt as it's really deep blue so it looks like the indigo you see in a lot of hipster/arty Japanese clothing. Headband really pushed it over. Today I'm back in my lockdown uniform again of boyfriend jeans and oversized men's cotton shirt. I'm clearly rejecting feminity for some reason. It may have something to do with an attempt to be seduced with the use of chicken fries at 9 in the morning last week. People are getting really desperate Confused

Zara does do a good floral every so often. I have a coat which I adore from when Prada was big on florals and Zara did a rip off (which I think was actually nicer than the original). I'll try and snap a picture of it tomorrow, I'm in sloth mode now.

Bani, nah that's more the equivalent of stuffing the back of your skirt into your tights, no one wants to see that (if there's some fetish site for that feel free to tell me I'm wrong, just don't link it, I'll believe you). Bra strap on display has a bit of an insouciance quality on the right person, visible bin liner will never be that. I'm really losing the plot now, aren't I? Bin liners pretending to be cool girls...

OP posts:
botemp · 18/05/2020 19:00

Zara, who is Zara, I meant to say Red and compliment the actual floral.

OP posts:
botemp · 19/05/2020 08:10

Elle are you still out there? I just got a low in stock (now out of stock) reminder from net a porter for linen shorts and remembered you were looking for some. They're the Reformation Nashville shorts, only in black on NAP but I think they do other colours.

OP posts:
banivani · 19/05/2020 08:21

We have wild strawberries growing in the wild here too and life is too short to worry about what pissed on them I think. Wink In our old flat there were MASSES of them right behind the houses. It's a short season but a tasty one! I prefer wild strawberries to "real" ones. I also prefer raspberries to strawberries.

Red that is a very Chelsea floral, I applaud you! Look forward to more, and Bo's coat. I think Zara often hit the right spot with patterns (going for what Bo wrote and not what she meant to write). They will ruin it with bad fit or a weird ruffle to compensate of course, not to mention the fast fashion angle.

Quirky when I had my eczema outburst last year I wore a thin black shirtdress as an open "kimono" to cover my arms, and then scoured secondhand places for more, because it's a really handy way to get more wear out of something like that that isn't great buttoned up. I found nothing at the time, but point stands.

When did I get the reputation to be the one to go to for weird fetish sites? Shock Will amend visible bin liner to visible thong à la noughties.

banivani · 19/05/2020 08:25

Meant to link you to a retrospective wander through the history of Miss Mary of Sweden www.missmary.co.uk/miss-mary-s-wardrobe-corsets-camels

botemp · 19/05/2020 08:44

See I can handle dogs or foxes pissing on them, but I draw the line at random men pissing on them. No idea why 🤷 I prefer raspberries too but those don't fruit until their second year and I'm just too impatient. I had one previously and it grew enormous and everywhere and yielded like five fruits Hmm

I'm not singling out anyone for fetish sites, but it is the internet and I just assume everyone looks up something weird like bra retrospectives Wink Halo on the internet that no one needs to know about.

Ok, it can be the noughties whale tale when it's very visible bin liner and skirt stuck in your tights if it's one where you're supposed to neatly work it into the inner bin but you're cack handed and make a mess of it. I need to stop thinking about this now or this will suddenly become the internet hotspot for bin liner fetishists Shock

As promised, my floral Zara coat 🤗 it looks better hanging but I could be bothered with removing paintings from the wall...

I did enjoy the Miss Mary retrospective btw, even if the previous post would suggest otherwise Smile

Ohhh that Zara coat Envy...
My daytime attire today while working was a Mexican embroidered blouse, needed something easy and fresh as is hot hot today and basically meant I had to me glued to laptop for hours.
Later on i plan to change for my virtual social distancing evening at Chelsea flower show ... will try to post that.
