Went for a run this evening and met a couple walking their cat on a lead.....

teta · 07/05/2020 20:48

La chasse aux Papillon is Sotd. It's so beautiful on a warmish day .

AvoidingTheWineAisle · 08/05/2020 08:46

@FloraMacDonald I love the image of a cat on a lead. I don’t know of any cat who would have that, though! Grin.

SOTD Narciso Rodriguez Fleur Musc.

MrsPerks · 08/05/2020 10:18

Speaking of cats, I'm still admiring Judy's.

Good to see yesterday's calendar entry - thank you Pears! You're right, ISOE Super does seem elusive and sneaks out of view when you try and concentrate on it. I like lots of things that contain it, but like it less on it's own, as there is something about the pitch/frequency of it that I don't find so relaxing. Genius marketing by Geza Schoen, though?

Am looking for an European wartime perfume to wear today I think; contenders could be vintage Femme (launched 1944) or Weil's Antilope (1945). (I have never smelt White Shoulders - Elizabeth Arden, but that's 1945 too).

MrsPerks · 08/05/2020 10:31

Just noticed something call Gay Divorcee was released in 1944 - how fabulous!

Calmasasleepycat · 08/05/2020 12:14

The review for today is up. MrsPerks, funny you are looking at wartime perfumes! I decided to review Tweed. Here is a picture of my bottles to go with it.

Calmasasleepycat · 08/05/2020 12:19

I haven’t tried Antilope or White Shoulders (I can’t believe that name! 😨) but have Femme on your recommendation. It is a modernish version, but I love it. The modern Tweed I believe is not a patch on the older versions, but Femme seems to have retained its gorgeousness!

Boglins · 08/05/2020 17:07

I've gone for the oldest one I have which is Miss Dior 1947, I think? It's the PP version and I've never smelt the original but it definitely smells of an era. As I've done 40s hair and make-up and am wearing a vaguely 40s outfit, I feel a bit like I'm in a timewarp which is a little disconcerting!

MrsPerks · 08/05/2020 17:29

Oh, what a fabulous review for VE day Calm - really enjoyed hearing about your Aunt's visit and the significance of Tweed.

I have had a squirt of some vintage so that I can sniff along with you. Not sure how old it is, but it is in one of those jet-propelled atomisers that have been long-banned and dispense in turbo-charged gusts, so suspect half the road will be smelling nostalgia, too Grin. I always associate this redoubtable women in silk headscarves from my childhood. It's shocking to smell now because it is sooo dirty. I get a huge castoreum or cumin note, along with the moss and woods.

MrsPerks · 08/05/2020 17:31

I love Miss Dior, Boglins. Do keep an eye out for vintage on eBay - I regularly see the little parfum bottles go for less than £15.

MrsPerks · 09/05/2020 08:38

What a beautiful morning! Kids are still asleep - I have done all the most urgent chores, started off a loaf, made myself a decent cup of coffee and am looking out at the luminous greenery in the sunny garden wondering what to wear today?

I am also enjoying the tranquility and birdsong. Yesterday, someone a third of a mile away (the other side of woodland/allotments) was playing Churchill speeches and big band tunes so loudly we could hear them indoors with the windows closed! Hope everyone enjoyed the back holiday?

yoikes · 09/05/2020 09:57

Morning!
Well...5 glasses of prosecco and chocolate cske mean I fell off the diet wagon big time yesterday.
Found HMQs speech oddly moving and we sang "we'll meet again"
Sotd will be fluffy lemon top
Loved yesterdays review!

KaliforniaDreamz · 09/05/2020 13:19

Please can someone link the calendar i seem to be having technical dementia.

Boglins · 09/05/2020 15:11

Lovely reviews everyone, I really learning like the stories behind the choices.

Thanks MrsP, will keep an eye out although I'm not sure I'm classy enough to pull it off in all honesty!

After the 40s makeover yesterday, I realised I need more red lipstick in my life. We have some lipstick lovers in here don't we, Judy is one I think and I'm sure there was someone else too. Can you recommend any good blue-red ones and an accompanying lipliner? I'm not one for frequent reapplying so a hard-wearing, long-lasting one would be great!

MrsPerks · 09/05/2020 16:08

Kali, here's the link to view the calendar. Daffodil

teta · 09/05/2020 17:00

Me too @Yoikes - complete with hangover.
I really enjoyed the V.E. day review and I've only just realised I don't have any perfumes from that time. I'm fascinated by all the descriptions of vintage perfumes and in awe of all the perfumistas knowledge on here.
Sotd is Rosine Une Rose d Ete. A summery yellow rose with apple and Linden blossom.

yoikes · 09/05/2020 17:11

Just dont but the YSL lip stain!
£22 I'll never get back!
Awful stuff

MrsPerks · 09/05/2020 17:14

Rose, apple and linden blossom sounds lovely, Teta. Am enjoying the scent from lime trees on my evening walks at the moment.

Have gone melon-tastic today. S&B's Suffolk Lavender, is the best summer incense I know (with a big melon note) - sounds unlikely, but it's great. Plus Missoni Acqua, which smells to me of melon and daisy.

yoikes · 09/05/2020 17:16

4160 fluffy lemon top here again

That does sound gorgeous teta

Not hungover but bit cross at myself!

MotherOfDragonite · 09/05/2020 17:38

Oh my god, guys, I forgot my calendar entry!!! It's today. That's why it's blank. I'm so sorry -- writing it now.....

PearsMorgan · 09/05/2020 19:33

SOTE Beyond Rose. SOTD was a disappointing Molecule 03 dupe which I may send back if I can be arsed. Just opened wine aaaaah. Waiting for kids to go upstairs so I can loll about on the sofa knitting and watching something crap on TV.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/05/2020 21:07

boglins red lipstick is my specialist subject! I prefer an orange red, preferably matte, but for blue reds:

Guerlain Garconne
Lisa Eldridge Velvet Ribbon
Smashbox Bing is a true red, and one of my favourites, it’s neither blue nor orange
MAC Russian Red or Ruby Woo
YSL No 1
Chanel Pirate
Laura Mercier Dominate

I use a nude lipliner for everything - MAC Spice. I do a weekly lipstick in my face post on Instagram so if you want to see them in action, DM me.

SOTD Coco. It is freezing and pissing rain here, while everywhere else has a heatwave.

I'm so sorry everyone -- my calendar entry for the day is now live. Big apologies!

SOTD has been PP Shalimaaaaaaar. I've gone insane and ordered a 7.5ml of the real Shalimar extrait as a blind buy. I am so excited for it! I realise it may smell like an old lady perfume, but I feel it is likely to be the kind of fearless and fragrant old lady I aspire to grow into, right?

MotherOfDragonite · 09/05/2020 23:29

What a lovely review, Calm. A perfume I have never had the chance to sniff, and might not be my thing, but how I adored the memory you shared of how you dabbed a little on. Scents can be so incredibly evocative of a whole time/world/person/you!

MrsPerks · 09/05/2020 23:56

Love the review, and especially the music Mother!
