SOTD O’ Unknown! after Calm’ review the other day. I’m liking the black tea and powderyness, like a good old book but I get hints of blackcurrant in the tea that makes this more interesting than irresistable. Good job really given my growing must smell/buy lists.

MrsPerks · 21/04/2020 22:31

Thanks for reminding me about Aromatics in White, Yoikes. (But I love the original AE, pine notes and all. But then I wear Yatagan and Encens Flamboyant Smile).

You are the first reviewer to complete three calendar entries Flowers. Do we draw this to an elegant close at the end of April, or start a new calendar for May and continue until we're out of lock-down?

yoikes · 22/04/2020 07:47

mrsp
My late aunt gave me a bottle of AE in the late 80s (?)
I really tried to like it but...no....it was not for me :)
I'm happy to continue in May as I have a perfume society box winging its way to me so will have a new stash of samples to try! :)
I have no idea what sotd will be...perhaps next eau nude

KaliforniaDreamz · 22/04/2020 11:40

Moring Campers, How are we all today?

calendar entry done...
tuerchen.com/0f93c704/22

i would be happy to continue! It feels like something nice to do.

Judy hang in there, we parents are right behind you xx I don't think MN is representative of society as a whole, most people i know in RL adore their teachers. and think MN is batshit crazy.

SOTD none yet as i have been attempting to oversee 3 kids at very diff stages do some sort of homeschool which has mostly involved eating.
I think it will be Violet Ida so i can imagine myself as a wealthy poet (what an oxymoron) from the Bloomsbury set.

x

yoikes · 22/04/2020 14:50

Hi kali

I adore my dcs teachers ok ok ds1s old geography teacher is HOT Grin

My perfume society layering box arrived. It's probably the best one I've had tbh!
Some lovely scents.

I'm wearing one now...clean reserve seude oud. Lovely.

Off to read your review now..
.

yoikes · 22/04/2020 19:55

Lovely review kali
It's always so disappointing when a perfume that looks perfect in paper is "meh"
I've got some Tisserand bath oil and I'm off for a bath!
🛁

KaliforniaDreamz · 22/04/2020 22:21

I have to admit it is a PP version! So perhaps the real deal is delightful.

A lot of my PP roller balls have disappointed me though and it isn't comparison it is me choosing the wrong thing.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/04/2020 22:32

SOTD Tauer Gardenia.

MrsPerks · 22/04/2020 23:49

Liked your review Kali. It's interesting how lists of notes don't really give you any indication as to whether you'll like something...

Red letter day here as two perfumes arrived. The first was sample of Burnt Cedar Rainbow Doves. Which starts with an industrial tarry-smoke and turns into a soft musky heliotrope. The structure is a bit like All Good Things, but the heliotrope accord is more interesting than Lush's sweet tonka. I'm not picking up the ethical civet note but will try again tomorrow...

The other thing was Aldi's no.35 Scarlett Rose. On first sniff I was worried we might be in dodgy feminine hygiene product territory, but actually it avoided that trap and is very enjoyable. It starts as a dewy red rose with a bite of greenery, and settles into something a bit more powdery and incensey. I'm very happy to be able to spray it around extravagantly and it did combine quite nicely with BCRD.

1frenchfoodie · 22/04/2020 23:49

Looked at the Perfume Society layering box on the basis of your review yoikes and suddenly it was on its way to my sister...

I’m not in the UK and she loves bergamot so it seems the box for her. She moved in with my brother (widowed last year in his mid 30s) to look after his 2 kids with her 2 during lockdown so he can continue to work (from home) so she really deserves to smell good.

yoikes · 22/04/2020 23:55

Really hope she likes it foodie!
The only ones I'm not keen on from it are L'interdit (which I knew when I ordered it) and the molten brown orange perfume and body lotion (but they will make a nice small gift for someone...)
The rest are all really lovely :)
Important to have treats at times like these I feel :)
I'm now in choco musk.
I rather liked burnt cedar rainbow doves too

yoikes · 23/04/2020 08:40

Good morning all

Update on my voluntary role drama:

I was right. They've got someone else lined up to ask. Glad my gut feeling was right but obv I'm now in a bit of a pickle

It's clear from a conversation I had last night with a trustee that they have no clue what I actually do.

This is engaging and baffling at the same time.

Wwyd?

I'm thinking maybe just revert to being a normal volunteer and let that someone else do the paid role.

I've been pretty stupid, haven't I? :(

Bluesheep8 · 23/04/2020 09:10

SOTD is Dead Sexy by a brand called Tokyo Milk. It was a blind buy for less than £10 from TKMaxx because I liked the bottle and saw that it should be £49.99 Blush I'm not at all sure that it is (dead sexy) but it's kind of vanillery yet bitter, so it's almost got a salted caramel type feel to it mixed with leather. Not sure if I like it or not tbh but now I've written that description, it should be right up my street

KaliforniaDreamz · 23/04/2020 11:27

Good morning.
Foodie what a lot for your brother to contend with i am so sorry. And how lovely of your sister to step up - no doubt that is going to be stressful so really cute of you to post some luxury.

MrsP Funny uou should mention Aldi i have Night Rose and Rose diffusers and both are lovely, but i haven't ventured into their perfumes yet but am tempted. Anyway was on zara site just now as son has requested a perfume and then i saw they do scents for kids haha
www.zara.com/uk/en/kids-boy-accessories-l176.html?v1=1443919

Yoikes do you feel any better knowing it wasn't personal ? would they consider you a contender now or not?

Blue i like the sound of that. I am morphing into a lover of sweet scents...

yoikes · 23/04/2020 18:42

kali
I've spoken to the chair.
I've made my feelings clear and sent a full explaination of what I do in my role as it seems the Trustees don't actually have a clue:(

yoikes · 23/04/2020 18:44

I do feel better for talking to her.

No sote yet. I feel another soak in the bath coming on! :)

Calmasasleepycat · 23/04/2020 21:45

yoikes, I will definitely try Aromatics in White. I have always avoided it because I really don’t like Aromatics Elixir, despite testing it several times in an effort to understand it. NB I think you need to be careful at work not to be too accommodating. They’ll be asking you to do a handover for the newcomer next.

Kali, some of the PP perfumes are spot on or, if they aren’t, smell so good it doesn’t matter. But I have really disliked others and perhaps your Opus III is like that. The Amouage perfumes have so many ingredients they must be difficult to match.

I wore Tauer Sotto La Luna Gardenia today, the last of a sample. It is beautifully rich, but the gardenia is just too buttery for me.

yoikes · 23/04/2020 21:49

Oh I'd love to know what you think of it calm x

There is a Trustees meeting tonight so....let's see :)

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/04/2020 22:11

SOTD Chanel 19.

OP posts:
MotherOfDragonite · 23/04/2020 22:59

Good for you yoikes! That sounds like a really constructive way of handling it -- you've been clear with them.

I keep forgetting to wear a SOTD. The day before yesterday it was Diptyque 34. Must see what I can find for tomorrow!

MrsPerks · 23/04/2020 23:23

Interesting to hear about Calyx, Teta - glad you are properly reunited Smile. Is the latest formulation as satisfying as the previous one?

Yoikes - glad you've had a chance to set this out for them, it does sound a painful situation. Hope there is a resolution that brings you peace and makes you feel valued.

yoikes · 24/04/2020 08:27

Well, I'm not holding my breath! :)
But...yeah.
If they don't act I'll take a sideways step and the "favoured one" can take over!
No idea te sotd but might go for clean reserve suede oud from the layering box

teta · 24/04/2020 08:48

@MrsPerks the top notes in Calyx are very similar but I don't think the longevity and the basenotes are quite the same. The green and oakmossy depths are definitely missing. But the overall 'feel' remains identical .
This is my Summer Wrappings equivalent - with a touch of astringent grapefruit, tropical Guava and lots of fresh green notes. I really don't think it has dated and it's pretty ageless. I do think it's probably one of those scents that are very polarising ,you either love or hate this.
I used to love those fruity Body Shop Shower Gels like Pink Grapefruit and the Raspberry Ripple and this is probably a more sophisticated follow up to these.
Sadly, it seems as if it's been discontinued by Clinique again but it's still available with online perfume sellers.

MotherOfDragonite · 24/04/2020 13:55

SOTD is Al Haramain Tanasuk. Lovely sugar-sweet floral vanilla. A bit like soft warm chocolate chip cookies eaten with a cup of rose milk in a garden full of blossoms.

yoikes · 24/04/2020 17:48

mrsp
Love your review today! I have a sample of your choice and I wear it when I'm feeling melancholy and it cheers me up :)
I'd never seen the original bottle - not what I expected!!
