Eighteen is the majority age for a monarch. Henry VIII was a few weeks short of eighteen when he succeeded. His grandmother, Margaret Beaufort, was regent.

SenecaFallsRedux · 25/02/2020 16:44

I can’t imagine blood royals being happy for Kate to assume the role in the event of something awful happening to William.

This is an interesting point, I think. It was different with Philip because he was/is a blood royal and in the line of succession himself (although pretty far down).

eggandonion · 25/02/2020 16:46

Would the Privy Council have an advisory role? I'm not really sure what they do in the UK.

In fashion terms I love the order of the garter parade! The garters would be a good committee.

mrscampbellblackagain · 25/02/2020 17:18

Making your own will is stressful enough. The estate planning for the royals must be another level.

Was watching the Windsor's earlier whilst doing tedious domestic admin and the wedding episode is very funny. Again showing off my low brow tv tastes.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/02/2020 17:36

@mrscampbellblackagain I think the new series starts tonight? The Camilla is very good, though Tracy Ullman's Camilla tops it for me as I imagine she's just like that!

@alliwant yes, we've had several regents during the reigns of child monarchs and when kings were away at wars or crusades but only one that was officially titled Prince Regent - the future George IV who took over when his father became ill.

Watching the wedding one now also - very close to the wind but so funny!

BlingLoving · 25/02/2020 17:58

Seneca - I assume it was different for Philip because he was a man! I doubt very much that if say we'd had a King who was married to some distant relative of Queen Victoria (as Philip is) that the regency rules would have been changed as such . this also fits with the general theory that Philip has never been willing to be "less than" other men/his children.

SenecaFallsRedux · 25/02/2020 18:11

Yes, I am sure that there are quite a few people who thought that Philip would be a more appropriate regent than Margaret because of his sex and his status as father of Charles.

eggandonion · 25/02/2020 18:18

He probably would have been more suitable, but Auntie Margaret would have been more fun!

mrscampbellblackagain · 25/02/2020 19:44

Not sure about Kate's theatre outfit.

mrscampbellblackagain · 25/02/2020 19:50

Queen - I love Haydn Gwynne - need to search out the Tracy Ulmann Camilla now.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/02/2020 19:58

Kate at the theatre. The dress is fine but I wish she'd glammed up a bit for a night out!

William wins tonight, style wise!
Nice enough dress shape but not the best colour on Kate and the buttons don't suit the dress, they cheapen the look.

Custom Eponine dress tweed dress
£525 silver Jimmy Choos shoes
£675 clutch

Oh, that is so dull. Very disappointed here.

mrscampbellblackagain · 25/02/2020 20:08

Love it! Thanks Queen

mrscampbellblackagain · 25/02/2020 20:08

I am not enjoying Kate's Amish phase.

gingercat02 · 25/02/2020 20:18

Boring dress not even rescued by those amazing shoes

RomaineCalm · 25/02/2020 20:20

Love the shoes and bag but not with that dress. I don't actually dislike the dress but not with those accessories.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/02/2020 20:30

I like tweed and the dress would be great for a daytime engagement. But an evening at the theatre? C'mon Kate, give us a bit of glamour to talk about! Shoes and bag are good though, if a bit matchy matchy.

mrscampbellblackagain · 25/02/2020 20:32

She needs to get her legs out or just do something a bit sexier

justasking111 · 25/02/2020 20:44

Always like to see those shoes. The buttons are crystal/diamante I think.

itswinetime · 25/02/2020 21:41

Come back from holidays on the same day the Cambridge's are back to work..that must make me practically royal or something I'm sure Wink

Agree with everyone else it's not a bad dress would have been a winner for me if she had worn this to the military hospital with Charles and Camilla but to an evening do it's just a little bit boring I agree she needs to glam it up.

I like the shoes and the bag but agree they are probably better apart than together!

I haven't had a chance to look at the Ireland itinerary in detail will there be a chance for some glamour there? Does anyone know?

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 25/02/2020 21:52

I love the bag.
