Royal style: forget all your stresses as we talk royal dresses

Previous thread

Now. A request. Can we please keep this to critiquing the clothes rather than the wearer?

So if you want to talk about what Meghan's wearing then fine, go ahead. I'm not even saying you have to like everything she wears. This applies to all royal women - if you don't like an outfit then do feel free to say so.

But if you want to talk about "Megxit" then please go to one of the many many other MN threads about it and leave us to our clothes chatter!

Yes to an Irish meet up!

StCharlotte · 18/01/2020 18:37

Blimey! H&M have done a proper Princess Madeleine!

I was just about to post that. Now I am surprised

QueenOfTheAndals · 18/01/2020 18:44

Wow! Well in that case they're not having it both ways and won't have access to any public funds so good luck to them.

Wowsers. They really mean it don’t they.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 18/01/2020 18:46

Blooming he'll, I wasn't expecting the giving up the HRH.

beanaseireann · 18/01/2020 18:48

frugalkitty "If only she had a nice green coat to wear."

You are VERY bold !!Grin

Bold in Ireland means naughty.

Inniu I think
It was The Maldron Hotel down near the Bord Gais Theatre since been renamed The Clayton but I stand to be coorected.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 18/01/2020 18:48

Was not expecting them to lose the HRH, this has either been a massive miscalculation on Harry and Meghan’s part or Harry really wanted out.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/01/2020 18:49

Not representing HMQ, that leaves things very open for the job front. Also endorsements etc.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 18/01/2020 18:52

They are now the equivalent of Zara and Peter Phillips then? Does that mean he will also renounce his claim to the throne or is he still 6th in line?

QueenOfTheAndals · 18/01/2020 18:52

Anyway, in the interests of keeping this thread in Style & Beauty, here's the latest Sussex thread if you'd like to discuss it in detail:

Harry and Meghan Resigning - HRH No More

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 18/01/2020 18:53

@alliwantisagoodnightssleep Peter and Zara haven't renounced their place so assume Harry won't either.

itswinetime · 18/01/2020 18:54

Sounds very fair to me they get to live their own lives no HRH's no public funding and repaying the costs of Frogmore. I'm sure the press will still find something to say about that but I don't think you could really have asked for more.

A lovely very supportive statement from the queen too. This really has brought out a more personal side I think. Which is nice and a strong show of support to Meghan (although I appreciate that benefits the RF too).

Without taking over this thread again do any of you are far more knowledgeable than me know if this means they will still be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex? Is that part of the HRH title or not?

StCharlotte · 18/01/2020 18:57

Sorry Queen Blush

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 18/01/2020 18:58

Ah I've misread.
They will not use their HRH titles, so I guess that means they still have them but can't use them in this new life of theirs.
Which I guess leaves a way back into the royal fold if H&M change their mind i.e. HMQ must have said you can use HRH again if/when you come back to us/being full time royals.
Very clever & diplomatic of HMQ with not taking away H&M's titles (after all Harry was born a HRH & the Dukedom of Sussex was a wedding gift from HMQ.) but just putting them back in the 'box' for safekeeping.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 18/01/2020 18:59

@QueenOfTheAndals thanks. I was thinking that. Also still possible but not probable to see them on a balcony in the future.

Spudlet · 18/01/2020 19:09

I’m sorry they feel the need to do this, but I’m glad they seem to have found a way forward. I won’t post a link as I know that this isn’t a thread on H&M, but I saw a Buzzfeed comparison of headlines about Meghan constructed with ones about Kate, and it was eye-opening to see them lined up like that. I feel a little bit ashamed, to be honest, I think it reflects poorly on us as a country in the eyes of the world.

On a less serious notes, I hope we still get some outfits!

Spudlet · 18/01/2020 19:09

Contrasted, not constructed!

QueenOfTheAndals · 18/01/2020 19:10

@alliwantisagoodnightssleep I guess it's up to HM to decide who gets to appear on the balcony but if all the distant Windsor cousins can then there's no reason why Harry can't. We shall see!

OP posts:
Twisique · 18/01/2020 19:41

I really wanted to see Meghan in a tiara. I would love to see Zara in one as well, and Sophie Winkleman.

ElspethFlashman · 18/01/2020 19:49

Oh they'll definitely appear on the balcony.

Show of unity, and all that.

Damage control.

frugalkitty · 18/01/2020 19:58

I think it's incredibly sad, Harry has Diana's 'common touch' with people and was an asset to The Firm. I think he's been lost since he came out of the army. However, ultimately they've made the mistake of suggesting it's all about making money which doesn't show them in a very good light IMO. I hope this doesn't mean that Harry loses his family (as opposed to his own family with Meghan and Archie), but hey, there are far more important things for society to deal with than these two.

We need some frocks and rocks, pronto!

Wetdogloveshubert · 18/01/2020 20:16

Today's announcement shocked me, but it seems the most appropriate way forward, and the best PR for H&M and the RF generally. Here's hoping this helps everyone's wellbeing.

Here are some pictures from the Royal Family and Clarence House instas. Anne looking brilliantly no-nonsense in boots (without tights?!) and a coat which has probably been in service for many a year, and Camilla glowing while surrounded by books, children and dogs. Kate has an excellent role model to follow there!

@spudlet I saw that - the press are rough but I think the Diana v Fergie stories back in the day were much worse. Not that that excuses anything but would have been a warning for Meghan before joining the family that likely the press would pit her against Kate.

Anyway, excited for the Ireland visit - hoping for some nice dresses but a bit less of the green!
