Royal style: forget all your stresses as we talk royal dresses

Previous thread

Now. A request. Can we please keep this to critiquing the clothes rather than the wearer?

So if you want to talk about what Meghan's wearing then fine, go ahead. I'm not even saying you have to like everything she wears. This applies to all royal women - if you don't like an outfit then do feel free to say so.

But if you want to talk about "Megxit" then please go to one of the many many other MN threads about it and leave us to our clothes chatter!

Please don't call St Patrick's Day St. Pat's Day Angry its like the aberration that is St Patti's Day.
Otherwise you'll have the wrath of all the Irish Royal Style watchers on these threads down on top of you and there seems to be loads of us. Smile

I think she is definitely wearing very fine, very expensive tights.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 15/01/2020 19:38

Very fine sheer tights act the same a a tinted moisturiser does for the face, a delicate bit of coverage.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 19:40

Sorry @beanaseireann ( I was only copying and pasting)

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/01/2020 19:44

I think what she wore today was fine for a "working visit". I'd probably have added boots and a scarf or gloves but I doubt they were outside for very long.

Max looks fab.

K&W look engaged & interested.

DreamingofSunshine · 15/01/2020 20:05

@SenecaFalls I sold my Lottie bag as I found it very uncomfortable to use with the chain strap, but I have no such problem with my Chanel 2.55.

I adore Kate's earrings and I'm a fan of the coat, I think the collarless, military style is more interesting than a basic wool coat.

mrscampbellblackagain · 15/01/2020 20:06

Agree about the weird flaps on the bust area.

It was an ok outift, a bit dull just like William's ensemble.

If I were Kate, I would have just wanted to get through today really with the least drama possible.

Meghan looked beautiful in her barbour yesterday. Although that faux fur trim on her hood will end up manky looking if she wears it in the snow/wet.

SenecaFalls · 15/01/2020 20:39

@DreamingofSunshine That's good to know about the Lottie bag, although it is so pretty that I am still tempted. (I need to stop watching YouTube videos about handbags.)

TokyoSushi · 15/01/2020 20:49

I think Meghan looked beautiful yesterday, she wears casual much better than formal I think.

Kate looked 'fine' today but I suppose she just wanted to get back to business and this is exactly what her outfit said.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 15/01/2020 21:19

I would like to see this winter look on Kate again.

If Kate is wearing tights they must be made to her exact proportions there is no sag or line anywhere!

I like Kate in red, it's been said before on these threads but Kate suits the warm jewelled tone colours. Even if you look at her range of green coats the warmer tones look much better in my opinion.

(There are some duplicates and I don't think this is all the green coats either)

Who’s job is it to buy all the clothes and manage the wardrobe space?

How can one women’s be characterised as frugal with that many green coats?

I’m full of questions this evening.

paradyning · 15/01/2020 22:07

That's her Ming the Merciless belt Betty. Nice coat though. And agree the boots look better than sheer tights (or not) and heels in Mid-jan

NoGravyForYou · 15/01/2020 22:15

I love the green coat from the 6th of March that @itswinetime posted.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/01/2020 22:21

Because people will believe anything if it's printed enough times in the press @AppleKatie!

Queen Margrethe's 80th birthday portrait

She looks like a bit like an art teacher which, given her interests, is not surprising!

lovely elegant birthday portrait.

And too true @QueenOfTheAndals in between my last post and seeing yours FB ‘ suggested’ I might like an article about how cheap Kate’s dress was today.... Confused

itswinetime · 15/01/2020 22:42

It's not as bad but blue and red probably have their own wardrobes too. But I agree with @QueenOfTheAndals it's all about what the press want to portray and today is the perfect example there was loads on twitter about Kate's bargain Zara dress. Not so much about her new McQueen coat when every coat she owns would have gone with black and white 🤷🏻‍♀️

We will see I imagine tomorrow's headlines will be picking up on a comment Kate made about no more Cambridge babies to one of the crowd today. Apparently William is the hold out.

SenecaFalls · 15/01/2020 23:50

Great portrait of Margrethe. Love the red fingernails.

Whattheother2catsprefer · 16/01/2020 00:26

What is the "royal secret" that allows them to wear shoes bare foot without shredding their feet? All shoes rub the skin off the back of my heel if I try to go sockless / tightless I have to wear something with almost all shoes. Is it because I wear cheap shoes or because I have peasant skin?

PinkSun9 · 16/01/2020 03:57

There are various types of socks which don't show, like court shoe liners, invisible socks or no show socks.

queenofarles · 16/01/2020 09:01

I guess when you put these coats all together they look a lot , but are they not accumulated over the years?. Probably a portion of these are tight/loose or she is just not into them anymore.

Kate is not thrifty, she likes tailored well made clothes and these are not cheap.
But I think she is the first royal to be seen in high street clothes And that image just stayed on.

latedecember1963 · 16/01/2020 09:09

The photo of Margrethe lets her personality shine through. I'd love to look like her when I'm 80.
