Royal style: forget all your stresses as we talk royal dresses

Previous thread

Now. A request. Can we please keep this to critiquing the clothes rather than the wearer?

So if you want to talk about what Meghan's wearing then fine, go ahead. I'm not even saying you have to like everything she wears. This applies to all royal women - if you don't like an outfit then do feel free to say so.

But if you want to talk about "Megxit" then please go to one of the many many other MN threads about it and leave us to our clothes chatter!

I'm not a fan of Kate's dress or coat today (although I agree that the length of the coat is good on her). Really like her earrings though. I wonder if she goes for high neck clothes so she doesn't have to worry about boobage shots, especially bending to shake hands etc...this way there's no worry about dodgy photo ops then again maybe not given the skirts in the wind bottom photos that there are so many of think I've disproved my own theory there. Maybe she just actually likes them.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/01/2020 13:53

Yes, the more pictures I see the more I think she looks very very cold indeed. Perhaps today was a day for tights - but thick opaques with boots! It's far colder than when Meghan popped out sans tights in London last week.

I think she has flesh coloured tights on - she'd be mad not to anyway in this weather!

I quite like the coat but not so keen on the neck bow on the dress. Good mix of high street and designer.

Will's is terribly bald now. He needs to cut it closer on the pate.

Rhubarbisevil · 15/01/2020 13:59

aspinal has a 60% sale on if you’re interested.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/01/2020 14:13

William's hair is usually shorter but he's probably just coming up to a visit to the barber.

I like Kate's coat (colour and style - very elegant) but the boob flaps are dreadful.

I can see why, in theory, you might add such detail (for wearers small in the boob area) but in practice it looks very unflattering. Maybe it is better in real life but photographs badly?

Not keen on the dress as I don't like those fussy bow ties.

Liked the shoes and handbag...and hair is fab too.

Meghan looks appropriately dressed for snowy weather - her parka looks toasty warm.

BlingLoving · 15/01/2020 15:18

There's nothing wrong with what she's wearing. It's just a bit boring.

itswinetime · 15/01/2020 15:37

Just caught up on the days pics I agree Kate looks freezing! Today was definitely a jumper and trousers or at the very least tights day. But the big chunky almost thermal ones 🥶.

Positives I like that the coat is plain and more tailored and I like the length. Agree the bag is the best part of the outfit the earrings look nice too.

Cons
Flaps one the boobs always sit wrong.
The colour is boring and in that length of coat with nothing to break it it looks wrong some how.
The dress...where do I start it's everything I don't like on Kate the high neck long sleeves stupid bow only this isn't even a pretty a colour. It's Zara though so I imagine there will be lots of thrifty Kate stories despite the fact to me anyway that is yet another green smart coat to add the 9-10 she already has!

Here's hoping she is a bit more glamorous for the 20th I feel we are lacking in some glam at the moment.

ElspethFlashman · 15/01/2020 15:40

Well in light of recent events I guess she wanted to give a "business as usual" vibe and wanted to look just like a working woman.

Which is fair enough.

Thisenglishlife · 15/01/2020 15:46

I love the bag, Aspinal Mayfair, I really want it... but it costs too much. I can afford it, but I can't justify spending so much on 'just' a small bag for myself.

The coat is OK but the colour is a bit dull for Kate's colouring (a richer, darker green would have been better). She also has better green coats. The pocket flaps make her breasts look a tad odd or even droopy when they aren't.

The dress is OK but I don't like the pussybow.

No tights! (Leg freckles visible). Pass me the smelling salts (I kid!)

I do wish she wouldn't dress so old. She does look good regardless though. I bet the drink was nice too!

I think she has very fine denier tights on.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 15:51

Is that one of her St Pat's coats?
It will probably get another outing in March.

Changing subject;, Natasha Archer was at KP on Monday for Kate’s birthday celebrations.
Her baby must be over a year old now; so I wonder if she is back working for Kate?
I feel like Kate’s style has been tweaked a bit. Longer skirts is the main one.
Also her Pakistan Wardrobe was stunning.

TipseyTorvey · 15/01/2020 15:52

Going against the grain but I really like that green coat. I like military style stuff though. I think she's very sensible picking a zara dress given the current anti royal social media frenzy.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 15:53

I agree. Kate always wears “hosiery”

Inniu · 15/01/2020 15:57

Thanks to whichever poster advised that Meghans brown skirt needed a chunky jumper.

After months hiding in the closet I am now wearing my blue version of that skirt with a navy chunky jumper and navy suede knee high boots.

Lots of positive comments.

Thisenglishlife · 15/01/2020 15:59

Unlikely to have hosiery on here if you can see her her foot bones and legs freckles from far. (Not that it matters if she didn't wear tights!!)

I have lighter legs and much darker leg freckles than Kate and they are basically invisible under even the sheerest and thinnest tights.

What makes ppl say she looks freezing ? she looks same as usual to me ?

paradyning · 15/01/2020 16:29

Oh my bad. Thought the bag was a mulberry.

SenecaFalls · 15/01/2020 16:45

Mulberry has one that is very similar, I think. I recognize it because I am on the Aspinal website constantly, hoping that they will have a sale where the prices dip far enough to justify ordering one. And they do ship to the US. I also really like their Lottie bag.

RomaineCalm · 15/01/2020 16:56

Like the coat (even the 'alas flaps') but not keen on the dress - the colour, the material and the pussy bow...

Boots would have looked better imo.

As a PP said it's all just a bit underwhelming

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 17:02

Maxima making cupcakes with scouts

paradyning · 15/01/2020 17:34

Max looks great in the silk outfit. Lovely colour on her.

StCharlotte · 15/01/2020 19:20

Going against the grain here but a smart outfit without some form of "hose" just looks unfinished and wrong to me. I can't even explain why. And that applies to Kate, Meghan, me and Chloe next door.

Spudlet · 15/01/2020 19:22

Sweet pic of Kate in full child-charming mode

SenecaFalls · 15/01/2020 19:25

But if the style of hosiery is to wear them so sheer that you can't even tell whether someone is wearing "hose" what is the actual point of them?
