Early years of secondary school:

Sportswear
Checked shirts
Combat trousers
Lime green and orange
Adidas everything especially poppers
Kappa
Fila
Chunky gold jewellery
Kickers or Pod shoes
Black bootcut trousers
Bootcut jeans
Layering strappy vest tops
Strappy dresses with a t shirt underneath
Bomber jackets
Naf Naf jackets

However I aspired to be 'alternative' which meant cord flares that dragged along the ground
Velvet blazer
DM boots
Loads of jewellery
Ben Sherman shirts
Beaded belts
Scarves

Sixth form:

Still with the bootcut jeans
Really high heeled boots
Playboy t shirts (bleugh)
Miniskirts or smart jeans with bustiers and strappy sandals for nights out
Denim miniskirts
Low cut tops and push up bras
Morgan
Kookai
Pilot
My more 'alternative' friends were in wide legged jeans, hoodies with holes in the sleeves for their thumbs, plastic bracelets, ironic t-shirts, loads of badges etc. at that point

Peasant / boho / Phool - flowing Indian cotton muslin dresses from a shop called Shree in Dublin. They had paisley and floral patterns. Worn with Jesus sandals or black cotton Mary Janes.

Donkey jackets.
Bangles, multicoloured strings of beads, leather necklace with ceramic and silver beads.
Duffle coats.
East or maybe West German Army surplus parkas.

Adidas runners.
Canvas satchels worn across the body, preferably emblazoned with peace symbols and ban the bomb type slogans.
Leg warmers.
Embossed leather bags.

Some ska gear and then early punk.

I went to secondary school in the late 70s/early 80s in Dublin.

Early secondary: palladium shoes (never had them; Katherine Dodd did and she always looked amazing); hideously-patterned leggings; black t-shirt; probably a waistcoat (I had a red one from the Body Shop- anyone else remember the Body Shop selling clothes?); velvet jacket or army surplus shirt. Sometimes a floppy hat.

Mid-secondary: Day- bootcut jeans; belt with large silver flower; body; silk scarf made to look like a choker; heeled leather boots.

Sixth-form: 501s; "ironic" t-shirts with children's tv characters on or an hilarious pun like "Johnson's Babe Power"; Adidas gazelles.

Marvellous times.

CandiceSucksCandy · 07/01/2020 09:00

Paisley shirts - short lived fashion but I had two and was so chuffed 😂

Hair tied tightly in a ponytail with two skinny straight tendrils pulled out on either side of head for a weird fringe.

Body suits

White vest tops with checked shirts over the top

Long flowing flowery skirts with the skinny ties with metal ends on them that got boiling hot when sun bathing teamed with DM boots.

Colourful plastic butterfly clips

Umbro she'll suits - loved mine

Green jeans - again adored mine - I was in college then though

OrangeSlice · 07/01/2020 09:55

Juniors. Pixie boots, ra ra skirt
Early secondary - Gabicci jumper, tie bow blouse, Gallini sweater. I remember a non uniform day at school seeing a long row of girls from the year above all wearing a Gallini sweater. So a different uniform
Mid secondary - lots of black and white
Late secondary- goths
