I remember people wearing Addias Trainers and they were trendy and popular.

Kappa jackets
Poppers down the side of Adidas (?) trousers
Black spaghetti straps dress over a white t shirt
Tartan mini skirts and over the knee socks

Oldraver · 05/01/2020 14:28

The first thing were leather jackets, not your bomber type, a sort of tailored style. I was bought a jacket as everyone was moving on to long leather coats (I was never one of the fashionable ones)

We then had Pods liek above, totally out of my price range

Gypsy skirts with three frilled layers, and an underskirt where the broderie anglais showed beneath the skirt. My Mum decided to make one, a little frill at the bottom of a straight skirt with lace sewn on. I was mortified and had the piss taken out of me.

Oh yes I'd forgotten about the circa 1976/77 four button trousers. I bought some with my Christmas Money.

I rarely had any of the latest fashions and it didnt help we didnt have a school uniform and could wear what we wanted...so no expulsions for safety pins in my ears

Oldraver · 05/01/2020 14:33

We have these in our wardrobe

How has no one mentioned THE SWEATER SHOP 😂

DivisionBelles · 05/01/2020 20:21

Black shoes with three buckles, a bit like sandals but not. These were all the rage at my school. Worn with fishnets and bright coloured ankle socks.
Pencil skirts, if you could sew the split up, then even better.
NafNaf jackets
Oversized shirts
Jelly bags in bright colours which you had to use with a plastic carrier bag or your books got wet.

MarshaBradyo · 05/01/2020 20:23

Pretty much every dress at our school ball was a black velvet top half with long taffeta skirt attached. Puffy sleeves

scoobdoob · 05/01/2020 20:25

Leather box jacket and iron maiden lipstick from Miss Selfridges

BobbinThreadbare123 · 05/01/2020 20:28

WingingWonder I did - page 1! I had a couple of the jumpers as a young teen. The only brand stuff my mum would allow.

Penguin34 · 05/01/2020 20:29

Same as @TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 worn with Rinmel heather/coffee shimmer and body shop dewberry mist or Inpulse O2

I'd buy that impulse if it was out now!

GoGoLego · 05/01/2020 20:37

CallarMorvern · 05/01/2020 20:41

Dying one's hair "period red"
Think I'd left school at this point, but I aspired to this after being influenced by the TV show 'My so Called Life"

Also saw these Reeboks in town the other day. Such a blast from the past, I never owned any, but wanted them badly as a teen.

@letsgomaths yes I had a pair of those Converse sliders in pink. I remember seeing a waitress in Brighton wearing them and thought she looked really cool so I bought some! Can't remember what year it would've been

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 05/01/2020 23:15

Marsha I'm quite embarrassed that my dress that I wore on the eve of the Millennium was a taffeta ball gown with black velvet top and puffy sleeves - it was a teal taffeta and I felt really posh in it Blush what's worse is I was working the bar in a really rough working men's club so it didn't help me to integrate amongst people who already thought I was up my own arse because I went to private school and don't speak with the same accent...

Newcatmum · 05/01/2020 23:29

Berghaus jacket

june2007 · 05/01/2020 23:45

Those hyperglow tshirts which showed up sweat patches. Thankfully I never had one and they seemed to be a flash in the pan. Shell suits for a while, to we all saw how flammable they are.

LilyJade · 06/01/2020 16:02

Kookai bags
Dungarees/dungaree dresses with the straps undone and folded over
Cork platforms
White jeans
Bolero style cardigans/jackets/coats
Those horrible necklaces that where gold and had a creepy diamanté doll/clown thing on them.

I was a goth though, so New Rocks, DM's, fishnets, tights with holes, stripy knee length socks- often mismatching, lots of dramatic eyeliner, really wide, low hanging jeans, German army shirt/jackets and for some reason wearing fairy wings was a thing.

Clevs · 06/01/2020 16:27

Head bags/hold all's
Naf Naf
Benetton
Kickers
Global Hypercolour t-shirts
Shellsuits
Tartan trousers
Doc Martens

Chouradanilova · 06/01/2020 18:20

From about 1971, hot pants, blouses with long see through sleeves and big collars, a velvet choker with a cameo and red ‘wet look’ shoes with chunky heels and white piping. Wanted all of Lulu’s range in Freeman’s catalogue, but was just a few years too young.

SteelRiver · 06/01/2020 18:51

Leg warmers, ra-ra skirts and fingerless net gloves, like Madonna used to wear!
