Help me choose an amazing dress

I 'may' be having a significant birthday soon. I was hoping to get a dress made but two local dressmakers have proven useless, so might want to buy one instead.

I'm size 14, used to be hourglass but now a bit rounder, busty. I'm very fussy! I want something that feels dressy but could equally well just be worn with ankle boots and a biker jacket to the pub. Would prefer it to have at least short sleeves, and not be polyester. Black or red probably my best colours, or maybe a dark print.

Budget up to about £200 for something really amazing.

How about this from Mango?

Or this one if you can find it on eBay as it's from their spring collection from this year.

Fair enough - I rather like this though it's a shame its black only.

Have you looked on andotherstories or anthropology
I love all saints I wear loads of their clothes but I can't think of any brands like them

What about zadig and Voltaire or the kooples

Urban Outfitters? &Otherstories? Wolf and Badger? The interesting wee boutique in the up and coming area of your nearest city?

Bugger, my first link didn't work. Another try for this Mango dress.

It's nice, Sadik, but I'm far too old and fat for it!

No to the Lipsy and Joe Browns ones. The Lipsy one is far too young, and the JB ones are just ordinary.

Pinky - aren't we all, though? I bet if you started a thread, we'd all get it 'wrong' too. It's so difficult finding nice things in nice fabrics these days!

I rather like this Principles variation on the black midi theme. But I appreciate that you said no Debenhams and no poly!

Thanks, Kitten. Poly though.

If this this had short sleeves, I'd order it immediately!

Just to add my tuppence as I think the DWF dress is gorgeous and they're famous for being very well cut and flattering !

@Sadik I have that dress, got it on sale. Love it!

I suspect that you are trying to find a frock, OP, that will make you look like you wished you look, rather than one which will actually do marvellous things for how you actually look right now. Most of us can probably emphasise with that... but it doesn't half make coming up with a 'magic link' tricky...

Have you tried whistles? It's got a pretty good sale on right now
Generally true to size and really flattering cut

Yes, they are poly. What about the style? Right direction at all?

Don't like the Marella one, sorry. And the next two are both poly.

Multivac - nope. I just want a nice dress that isn't poly and doesn't make me look a twat.
