Help me choose an amazing dress

I 'may' be having a significant birthday soon. I was hoping to get a dress made but two local dressmakers have proven useless, so might want to buy one instead.

I'm size 14, used to be hourglass but now a bit rounder, busty. I'm very fussy! I want something that feels dressy but could equally well just be worn with ankle boots and a biker jacket to the pub. Would prefer it to have at least short sleeves, and not be polyester. Black or red probably my best colours, or maybe a dark print.

Budget up to about £200 for something really amazing.

Sorry, Curl but I don't really follow celebs and wouldn't have a clue who to search for, except maybe Helena BC in VW.

Sorry, I misread you so offering up one of my local treasure options as penance. brigidfoley.co.uk is a one-off shop local to me. The website is atrocious I warn you but they always have interesting dresses, generally at sensible prices, that you won't see everywhere. Not the most cutting edge but with some promising east European young designers, and given our area and cold draughty houses, almost everything will have sleeves.

I like that DVF one. That's the nicest on here so far apart from the original All Saints one imo.

Apologies if &other stories has already been suggested, but they have a lot of wrap dresses. This one could be dressed up and down and is similar to the colours you have posted: www.stories.com/en_gbp/clothing/dresses/midi-dresses/product.wrap-midi-dress-green.0670910003.html

Just in case it helps, the model is a partner in the business. She's 50-55 ish and in good shape, and about 5'8" size large 10/small 12.

StandUp - that's lovely. I doubt it would suit me, but it really is lovely. I just found this which is similar too.

That’s gorgeous too, OP, though slightly harder to dress down if that’s what you wanted to do.

Sorry, Xing but they are a bit 'White Stuff' for my taste. I'm finding it hard to describe my style without saying 'edgy' which is a word I hate! But generally a bit dark and quirky!

OP, everything you like, you already have, or it " needs sleeves"

Maybe you need to go to an actual shop, try things on that you wouldn't normally try.
It sounds like you want " special/ different" but you don't want to move outside your comfort zone.

Saving - I didn't say anything about wanting special or different. I just want a nice dress and of course I'll go and try lots on. Feel free to be miserable, but some people will enjoy looking for dresses even if I don't like any of them. I often happily spend an evening posting links for others, but won't get upset if they don't like them. Grin

Afrikat - a couple of those are pretty, but mostly poly I think.

Quite like the polka dots but might be a bit too old and fat for it!

I know exactly what you mean and am not upset. Over the years, I have found them both inspired and blah, but sometimes they come up trumps. I'm just a customer, not invested or involved. This is a difficult dress to buy online because it's the fit and detail that will make you feel a million bucks.

I was also going to suggest Free People cultmaskid. Remus, you might try having a browse - their website has models in the strangest poses, but they often have interesting clothes.

I like these threads because as said above, it gives different ideas of sites to look at in the future when I want things.

I'll definitely keep looking at them, Xing as maybe they would have something that would do for work at some point.

I like that Cult but would need a lower neckline.
