Help me choose an amazing dress

I 'may' be having a significant birthday soon. I was hoping to get a dress made but two local dressmakers have proven useless, so might want to buy one instead.

I'm size 14, used to be hourglass but now a bit rounder, busty. I'm very fussy! I want something that feels dressy but could equally well just be worn with ankle boots and a biker jacket to the pub. Would prefer it to have at least short sleeves, and not be polyester. Black or red probably my best colours, or maybe a dark print.

Budget up to about £200 for something really amazing.

Some lovely knits on that site, Xing.

And if I was 6 foot tall and size 8 I'd love to swish around this

Remus, I like it too but I'd need to be 9 inches taller, or even 9cm would help! I recall their stuff being pretty well made.

How about these?

I've also stumbled across a brand called Frock and Frill which may be worth a look?

Sorry Creme but no to all three of those.

I've enjoyed so many of your book ideas over the years. Finally, the link

XingMing · 27/12/2019 22:24

I have no idea how that happened. Ds gutted my PC and I am waiting for his best friend (at uni) to help reconstruct it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/12/2019 22:25

The waist knot dress is beautiful and would probably suit me (but it's poly - sorry!).

I've got boobs too and this sort suits me. Also it's silk https://www.toa.st/uk/product/womens+dresses+and+tunics/c1mel/silk+vienna+dress.htm?clr=C1MELOlivee_sw

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/12/2019 22:28

Quite like that, Best.

No to the Toast one, sorry, Awks. I need stronger colours in a print, with a dark background ideally.

Best recent read was Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld. Currently reading The Penelopiad, a lend from DS's GF.

XingMing · 27/12/2019 22:31

Sorry, didn't read the fabric info. Nice shape though.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/12/2019 22:32

I like that, Strictly.

The black silk Toast one would be lovely if it was about two feet shorter!

Happy reading! I've had a rubbish reading year, but am hopeful about 2020.

If you really love the all saints dress you could buy two and use the fabric on the second dress to have sleeves added. Being in sale would make this possible within your budget.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/12/2019 22:39

Awks - that's gorgeous.

Plumo Zodiak Dress

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/12/2019 22:42

Interesting idea, Ineed, except I'd also have to pay for the dressmaker. I might go and try the AllSaints one on with a thin/sheer silk t-shirt under it perhaps. The sort of thing that Cos sometimes do.
