Help me choose an amazing dress

I 'may' be having a significant birthday soon. I was hoping to get a dress made but two local dressmakers have proven useless, so might want to buy one instead.

I'm size 14, used to be hourglass but now a bit rounder, busty. I'm very fussy! I want something that feels dressy but could equally well just be worn with ankle boots and a biker jacket to the pub. Would prefer it to have at least short sleeves, and not be polyester. Black or red probably my best colours, or maybe a dark print.

Budget up to about £200 for something really amazing.

I need to stop reading this thread before I spend £2000 on dresses I don't need that will be too long for my short arse anyway!

I think layering with the AllSaints dress would look lovely but I am a fan of the two in one dresses that you think are too much...

As it's a special birthday, have you thought about treating yourself to a lovely necklace or handbag too?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/12/2019 23:05

Blimey, Minty - then I'd have to make even more decisions!!!

I've got a fair few lovely necklaces already, and am not really a bag person tbh. I'd probably rather have another leather jacket instead. Grin

Hi - I love the vw dress you posted from very. They are good with returns - is it worth ordering and seeing if you could either have sleeves added by a seamstress or try it over a top with tight sleeves? I did this with a dress I loved and it just looks as if that is how it is meant to be iyswim.

Good luck in your hunt. You deserve to feel special so keep fussy!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/12/2019 23:06

Nice, Lucked. But poly. Everything is bloody poly!

I LOVE that Plumo site. Never heard of them before but I want so many things
Love this www.plumo.com/products/Mountain-dress.html (for me) and want so much of the knitwear.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/12/2019 23:07

Thanks, Sunshine.

Yes - the VW one would probably work over a sleeved top. Might give it a go.

One linked earlier from french connection is now in the sale - think it is much nicer in person than in the pictures www.frenchconnection.com/product/woman-collections-dresses/71mpo/inari-mix-printed-midi-dress.htm?clr=26466d

Gemma2019 · 27/12/2019 23:32

Do you like this pattern at all - it's similar colours to the Ted Baker one you posted? It's 100% silk.

Placemarking some cracking dresses and websites!

Gemma2019 · 27/12/2019 23:55

Have you considered looking for a vintage dress, somewhere like Vestiaire? I've bought so much stuff from there lately - several designer dresses either new or worn once for a fraction of the original price.

By the way - thanks to whoever linked to the Nancymac dresses. They are gorgeous!

Ganni tiger print. Be great with a biker jacket (viscose) www.net-a-porter.com/product/1198643

Newnamewhodis1 · 28/12/2019 00:34

Loads of cool Ganni dresses in the NAP sale but mainly viscose and poly
