Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17 Thread 18 Thread 19

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

I stand more than I sit Client as feel better when I do, & it’s better for noseying out of the window too Grin Not much going on the moment though I did witness a socially distant row over wheelie bins this morning.

ClientQueen · 01/04/2020 22:41

I'm now relaxing with some innisfree foot masks on. Very weird feeling! They're plastic and filled with essence stuff and meant to be moisturising. It said 20 mins but I've left them on for a lot longer

vaz119 · 03/04/2020 13:42

Hi there

I wonder if anyone can help me with a new spf?

I currently use bioderma nude touch spf50 tinted which I buy from easypharmacie. However, It seems to be out of stock

I see escentual has 1/3 off French skincare and includes some spfs

It seems to include bioderma/eucerin and avene (but not LRP shaka, which is my next favourite)

I don't need it to be tinted, but it does need to sit nice under makeup.

I have slightly reactive and eczema prone skin but usually do well with French skincare so their spfs are an easy first choice

Has anyone got any they can recommend or suggest (while the 1/3off is on)?

Thanks ❤️

SallieSallow · 03/04/2020 19:32

Vaz bioderma also do an SPF50 called cicabio which I like in winter, but it’s quite rich/moisturising so might not be great if you have oilier skin and want it for under makeup - though looking a bit shiny probably isn’t the end of the world at the moment Grin

I really like frezyderm tinted and untinted, the untinted is like a primer so great under makeup but it’s only on amazon as far as I know & no offers.

Hi everyone, I've got rosacea on both cheeks but have never been able to pinpoint a trigger. Thought maybe now was a good time to go back to basics with no make up to see if I can figure out if anything in particular aggravates it. My skin is on the dry side. I guess just go back to a basic cleanser and basic moisturiser to start and see how I get on? Has anyone got any suggestions? I've got simple face wash gel cleanser (used this for years), cerave hydrating cleanser, hot cloth vit e cleanser superdrug and toleriane dermo cleanser. Moisturisers/serums I've got are avene tolerance emulsion, toleriane sensitive fluide, superdrug simply pure hydrating serum, vichy mineral 89, body shop vitamin e, and I've also got a Paula's choice calm trial kit. Any suggestions what I can do? You can probably tell that I've lurked on this thread for a long time as most of the products I've listed are favourites on here!

cinammonbuns · 05/04/2020 10:12

Dermatica are doing a one month free promo and 3 months free for NHS staff. (Promise I’m not paid to say this). Honestly single handedly the most impactful thing for my skin. The code is CAROLINE-HELP

botemp · 05/04/2020 10:31

vaz, the Bioderma that Sallie mentioned is good and for tinted the Avene mineral tinted is pretty decent although the colour will not suit if you're on the paler side, much like the Bioderma nude touch.

Cad, are you just asking which products to try exclusively? I've mentioned on here before that I don't think Cerave is that suitable for sensitive sensitive skin, iirc the vitamin e cleanser has fragrance so that's a potential irritant. Have you ever done any eliminiation of other non skincare related rosacea triggers?

OP posts:
cad186 · 05/04/2020 13:20

Botemp, there doesnt seem to be anything non skincare related that triggers it. I havent found a connection between spicy food, wind, sun, cold, getting hot after exercise etc and I don't really drink any alcohol. Just thought if I went back to basics with no make up perhaps I could work out if anything in my skincare or make up is triggering it. But dont know how to start trying to identify what the trigger is!

botemp · 05/04/2020 13:29

I guess stripping right back to basics would make the most sense then. Rinse with water in the am, followed by a mineral SPF, then cleanse with the gentlest of cleansers (Toleriane probably) and simplest moisturiser (Toleriane or Avene maybe?). Give it a six week go, if possible, to assess.

OP posts:
cad186 · 05/04/2020 13:47

Fab thanks I will give that a go. Should be relatively easy to go make up free for 6 weeks as I am sure we will be in lockdown for most of that.

ClientQueen · 06/04/2020 10:27

@Tsmummy08 I am currently applying the EL foundation :)
First thoughts are - nice. V liquidy, reminds me a little of Mac waterweight. Coverage is quite skin like so far but I'm using a damp sponge to apply

ClientQueen · 06/04/2020 10:42

Pic in natural light. I love exactly one foundation and like another 2/3. This has ALMOST gone straight into love category. Dammit Grin
I am dry skinned, using tret and it hasn't clung to a single dry patch

Tsmummy08 · 06/04/2020 12:47

Ooooh, looking gorgeous CQ! Sounds exactly like the kind of base I'd love too, thanks for the review :)

cad186 · 06/04/2020 19:52

That foundation looks lovely, sounds like one I would like too, might have to get a sample after lockdown.

cad186 · 06/04/2020 19:53

Clientqueen what are the other foundations you like?

ClientQueen · 06/04/2020 20:13

In order of preference!
CYO lifeproof
Revolution conceal and hydrate
MAC waterweight

cad186 · 06/04/2020 23:27

I like the CYO one but havent tried the others. I like Giorgio Armani luminous silk, No7 Hydraluminous and Loreal infallible pro glow. In that order!

Pupsiecola · 15/04/2020 10:02

So this finally arrived from Boots. Very much looking forward to trying.

Does anyone else have issues with eye make up remover making their eyes a teeny bit blurry afterwards? I have this with TTDO and have also tried TBS.

Interesting Pupsie, I was curious about the moisturiser, it's supposed to be very hydrating. Let us know how you get on. How's your son's skin doing BTW?

OP posts:
ClientQ · 15/04/2020 17:25

I'm curious about it too!
Escentual have 1/3 off french pharmacy brands and 12% cash back via Quidco
I got my bioderma shower oil as wanted to stock up

Pupsiecola · 15/04/2020 19:15

I've tried it all and I really like it.

Not sure I've ever used a cleansing gel before. It's gloopy but not messy so a good consistency, goes on well, feels nice on the skin, rinses off well and doesn't leave my skin feeling at all dry (gone are the days of my skin being so parched I couldn't wait to throw something on it, post-cleanse/shower, but I'm still a tiny bit of aware wanting to get some moisturiser onto it).

The pre-moisturiser isn't something I'd normally bother with but thought I'd give it a try, considering the price point. But it was quite refreshing to use

I love the moisturiser. It's very hydrating but light at the same time.

Again, wouldn't normally bother with a separate eye product these days, but thought what the heck. I've not bought anything new for ages. I've popped it in the fridge and will apply before the Vit C.

Pupsiecola · 15/04/2020 19:16

Just looked at their IG page. They've been going for 20 years. Wonder what other products they do...

VillageFete · 15/04/2020 21:48

I found you! Oh God, been looking for this thread for days.

I’m a newbie, who has developed an obsession with skincare during lockdown.

@botemp very kind pointed me in the direction of Timeless Vit C on a thread I started, and now i’m looking for recommendations for other products.
I have “ok” skin. Only a few fine lines (But a shocking line in the middle of forehead- Botox takes care of this)
My main concern is getting an even skin tone. I hate that my skin is not just all one colour if that makes sense? Pic for reference...

I’ve ordered a few bits from Paula’s choice and am waiting for them to arrive (2% BHA lotion for the congestion I get around chin/jawline) and also the Hyaluronic booster. I’m in need of a good hydrating serum post booster - any suggestions? Budget wise, I don’t want to go mad, just until I know what works for me and what doesn’t.

I’ve seen that Niacinamide and Glycolic acid can help to even skin tone out. Any thoughts of Paula’s Choice 10% AHA weekly peel and her 10% Niacinamide booster? Or any decent alternatives?

VillageFete · 15/04/2020 21:49

Pic of my uneven skin!
