Instagram wankery I imagine?

beanaseireann · 12/12/2019 19:48

Wasn't there a stable in Bethlehem ?
Wink
Not a royal one obviously

Spudlet · 12/12/2019 19:54

I think a Christmas tree in the stables is shorthand for ‘We have so many grooms they have time to put up Christmas trees in the stables’. Grin

banivani · 12/12/2019 20:13

Bertrand, they’re in Denmark, home of hygge. No doubt the horses have their own Christmas tree.

AppleKatie · 12/12/2019 20:27

I saw the Kate pictures from last night this morning. Went Shock at the brow, thought of this thread but had to go back to work. Delighted to sign back in tonight and see it’s all been said 😂

StCharlotte · 12/12/2019 20:32

@banivani is Petra Mede the Eurovision lady?

banivani · 12/12/2019 21:42

Yes that’s her!

I’ve been reading back a bit and it struck me that I can’t remember any single time when DoC wore something you lot liked. If fifteen people comment 13 of them will be negative in some way. Caveat: not actual numbers. So genuine question: what would you like? Post a picture or a link! And preferably say why. Bonus points* for articulating why beyond your personal taste ie is there some sort of point to her clothes you’d like to see.

*there are no actual points

MotherofPearl · 12/12/2019 21:45

I think DoC looks great 99% of the time.

paradyning · 12/12/2019 21:46

I think she looks great 1% of the time 😂

Spudlet · 12/12/2019 21:53

Pouts I demand points!

Ok, I think some of her clothes are great. I loved the blue dress she wore to the Imperial War Museum last November (can’t post a link, my wifi is down and on data) - I think she also wore it in Canada. It was a great fit and shape. I know the etiquette is for Royal ladies to wear coat dresses so nobody is scandalised by the site of them removing an outer layer, but quite frankly, sod that - it’s 2019, we are not going to pass out at the sight of the DoC shrugging an outer coat off and handing it to her assistant, FFS. So the coat dresses can mostly go - I really like a smart ‘work’ type dress and think they would be very appropriate for many of her engagements while also being more modern.

Evening-wear wise, I would love it if she felt able to wear something as out there as CPV the other night, but totally understand why she doesn’t, sadly. She really suits jewel colours, imo, and can carry off simple shapes. I loved Meghan’s one-shoulder black dress - I think the DoC could wear something as simply cut as that and look great, with the right hair and makeup.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 12/12/2019 22:01

I’m may be wrong but the blood royal ladies seem to take more clothing ‘risks’ (for want of a better word) than the married ins.

I’m not sure if it’s a confidence thing, fear of getting it wrong, so end up playing it safe & sticking to what suits them/they feel comfortable in.

paradyning · 12/12/2019 22:01

I think she fails with accessorising. She always mismatches at least one accessory which throws the whole look out IMHO.
CPM's clothes would look fantastic on her and completely 'appropriate' for those that care. Also Leti, although I do think she veers into slightly dodgy territory sometimes (recent fringes dress).

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/12/2019 22:44

C'mon @banivani, where were you during the Pakistan tour???

So genuine question: what would you like?
The daywear of CPM or SWFM and the evening wear of CPV.

Since you ask Grin

(I love Petra)

frugalkitty · 12/12/2019 22:56

I think it's not that we blanket dislike what Kate wears, but that she often doesn't quite get it right....so overall she's neat and tidy etc but actually, a skirt is too short, or a top not right for her long torso. I like quite a lot of her boring outfits, but not necessarily on her because she does tip into 'mother of the bride' territory.

For me, I look at how she dresses sometimes and wonder how she can possibly get it wrong when she's thin and rich. If someone with her figure and bank balance can't get it right, what hope have ordinary women got? I'll have a nose on IG for some pics of outfits I have liked.

justasking111 · 12/12/2019 23:11

I googled princess Anne images when young the other night. Wow was she frumpy a young version of her middle aged mother. She had the figure and the looks to look fabulous but was determinedly dull.

itswinetime · 12/12/2019 23:35

frugalkitty

I think your are spot on. With regards to he formal wear I don't dislike anything Kate wears. I don't think she wears anything that is that dislikable.

But Almost every outfit could be better with a small change. The neckline on last nights a necklace with the bafta one etc

Her casual wear on the whole it's not my style I don't like the frilly overly fussy midi dresses and the high collar long sleeved are not the ones me I would love it if she modernised her look a bit Ali think Letizia has a good balance for me anyway.

Apart from that the main moan you will hear from me is why dose she need 6 near identical coats but that's not because I don't like them it's it's just pointless!

WineOrGinOrBoth · 13/12/2019 04:29

I don’t think Princess Anne has ever been that bothered by clothes.

Bellevu · 13/12/2019 06:47

@banivani I like it when Kate dresses her age rather than someone 20-30 years older. A lot of the time it looks like she's wearing dressing up costumes.

She doesn't have to take risks to dress within a decade of her birth.

peridito · 13/12/2019 07:00

i think this thread is about critiquing outfits so ppl are looking for things they think could be improved upon and things they like .

As frugal and others have already said ,better than me !

frugalkitty · 13/12/2019 08:09

I think she just has the unfortunate knack of making clothes look dull. Whether that's because she's wearing styles that are older than she is, or as we've discussed on here before that she's not actually all that bothered by clothes/fashion I don't know. She's always immaculate. She wears beautiful clothes I do not count Erdem in that but there's no fun/quirkiness/detaining/modern edge to it so to me it falls flat. She rarely looks bad, but I think she (or the clothes) lack a certain something to make her look wow. I think she'd really benefit from getting her colours done but more importantly, doing the style personality day because if you don't dress to suit your style personality the clothes wear you.

Encyclo · 13/12/2019 08:12

I loved the jade green sparkly dress she wore in Pakistan and the blue tunic dress. That was a moment.

Also she wore an off the shoulder white dress to a gala in the summer. That was amazing.

All the long sleeve dresses with the bows annoy me and those coat dresses of many colours.

JudgeRindersMinder · 13/12/2019 08:24

I’m a long time lurker ok this thread but very rarely post, but this is my tuppenceworth...the tiaras as amazing and I found the protocol interesting-if I had a “proper” tiara you can bet your boots I’d be wearing it at breakfast! Crown Smile
Regarding D oC’s wardrobe, I’ve always wondered if she’s determinedly played it quite safe to avoid comparisons to Diana, who was very fashion forward and very edgy for a royal

Laiste · 13/12/2019 08:39

@banivani i like the DoC's outfits 99% of the time. If i were her they're probably exactly what i'd chose.

I don't think her main concern is that when photos of her are being looked at in 10/50/100/200 years time her clothes stand out as fashionable for their time. She will want first glance to be all about looking as if she made an effort for the occasion, were the clothes appropriate for what she needed to do in them, were they well made and did they accentuate flesh which is unattractive or inappropriate. On official duties i recon she ticks these boxes 100% of the time. Well done to her.

Personally I'm not so keen on super skinny jeans with the hiking boots look she does when dressing down. He legs are so slim the boots put me in mind of those 'Brat Dolls'. (anyone?). And that's where my very superficial 1% mark down comes in.

Awaits points Grin

Was she though? Remember that we only had Anne, Diana, then Fergie amidst a group of much older royal ladies.

HM, Margaret and the royal dutchesses were always, always dressed in the latest styles and were seen as v glam to set so many trends.

50 years on they dress their age now, having had fun (or just wore similar to people of their class and age)
