It's cold outside so the lovely friendly perfumistas are by the fireplace, sniffing our scarves and dreaming of the desert

Lovely review kali :)

Dh back later. Hurrah! I'll be glad when the weekend is here and my tree has been delivered so we can decorate the house :)

Sotd real by the fireplace 🔥

Enjoyed your reviews @KaliforniaDreamz and @Judystilldreamsofhorses. I now really want to try this new Miller Harris as I love the originals by Lyn Harris. Strangely I find Amyris Femme quite warm due to the woody base and I wear it in Winter. I once aphyxiated someone on a train wearing it 😁. I think it made her feel ill.
@BlueSkyAtChristmas welcome back and congratulations on your adorably sunny sounding baby 💐. @MotherOfDragonite I'm sorry things are a bit tough at the moment. Hopefully your DD is ok and the doctor will be able to reassure you that nothing too much is wrong with her apart from a sudden onslaught of kids illnesses happening all at once .
Wearing Miller Harris Noix De Tuberose today along with several other perfume sprays . Discovered the All Saints perfumes and they could rival many niche. The Amber one is an absolute dupe for Baccarat Rouge by Mfk and considerably cheaper. The Incense and Musk ones are also pretty good.

Calmasasleepycat · 04/12/2019 17:16

Loving the reviews! Judy, I have a tester of Amyris Femme, and tried a little bit on my hand after reading your review. Yes, it’s really bright and perfumey, a bit like lily of the valley is, only that’s not the smell. I really enjoyed it but have put it away to try again in the spring, as I think it will work better then. I love your cat! Kali, I had never heard of Sublime Blossom but will definitely test it at the Miller Harris Shop when I next go to Covent Garden.

I received my Hot Pink Friday 3 for 2 deal from 4160Tuesdays. I chose Dark Heart of Old Havana, Eat More Flowers and Le Jardin De Monsieur McGregor. Dark Heart is for my sister (it’s her favourite perfume).

It's funny you mention that @Teta as I have only today smelt Baccarat Rouge (since the posters on these threads often mention it) and loved it. However, it's £200 and I don't really want to spend more than £170ish on a fragrance.

I was going to ask:
Does Perfume Parlour or any other company have decent dupes for Baccarat Rouge?

UGotTheLook · 04/12/2019 20:24

Anyone have any thoughts on Acqua di Parma Oud? (Not the colonia one)

I really liked the smell, but was disappointed by the length of time it lasted. Is this common with Acqua di Parma scents? As it is an expensive oud, I thought it would last longer - am I expecting too much?

Stinkyeddie · 04/12/2019 20:32

I find the cologne type scents I'm looking at you, Jo Malone really don't last well at all. An hour max, which is mad considering the cost...

UGotTheLook · 04/12/2019 20:35

Sure, Stinkyeddie, but the Oud is an EdP!

BlueSkyAtChristmas · 04/12/2019 20:38

Grin Pots does sound like my non-evil twin!

Hi teta lovely to see you again! Thank you, he is adorable! I’m popping into town later this week, so will check out the All Saints perfumes- thanks for the heads up.

MfK Baccarat Rouge is a real favourite of mine. Alas not one I own due to price. But I don’t feel I would get a lot of wear out of it.

I own the PP baccarat rouge fake. It’s actually a pretty good dupe. But I can smell the difference- the MfK just has this luxury smell I can’t put my finger on. I haven’t worn the PP much because it made me feel a bit sick . The sweetness in the original has never made me feel nauseous (I’ve used 3 large samples so have worn it enough times). So I can’t bring myself to wear the PP anymore. But I would still say it’s a pretty good attempt. This is gonna sound really strange, but the MfK has a slightly medicinal/ antiseptic note which holds it altogether- no idea what it is, but it’s missing in the PP dupe.

I have been wearing No 5 L’Eau today. The opening is beautiful and the top notes are as sparkling as No 5. It’s a great flanker for the first hour, but it dries down very quickly into a musky skin scent that’s just not that interesting.

Has anyone tried the Zara perfumes everyone is raving about? Something to do with Jo Malone (the lady, not the brand). I know we’re not her biggest fans Grin

Stinkyeddie · 04/12/2019 20:39

EdP???
That's odd! Esp oud...

BlueSkyAtChristmas · 04/12/2019 20:41

Grin as I was typing my post, I see stinky has proven my point about Jo (who I’m sure is a very lovely lady, but just makes the perfume equivalent of weak squash)

Stinkyeddie · 04/12/2019 20:42

Blue Grin

Stinkyeddie · 04/12/2019 20:45

I'm verging on hysterical unhinged laughter here this evening...

My "new" oven is broken...you know, the one that replaced the one the oven fitters set fire to, which was a replacement for a faulty one??

Hahahahahahahaha.....

BlueSkyAtChristmas · 04/12/2019 20:49

I second the description of Amyris femme smelling similar to lilies. I really can’t stand the smell of lilies and didn’t enjoy this perfume. Some of my favourite perfumes are made by FK but many of his triumphs I hate (aqua universalis and flankers... smell dirty like secretions magnifique. I don’t like acquatic scents like Issey Miyake so it makes sense)

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 04/12/2019 20:56

Blue, yes that's me, still very fond of CVC Grin

MrsM great tip about the Ma Liberte, will keep an eye out. I think vintage Jicky is probably a little out of my price range anyway!

eddie Flowers bloody oven!

SOTD Or de Serail - Naomi Goodsir. Seriously boozy, smoky honey. Sweet and luscious and just a bit glamorous. Very Mata Hari, I reckon. And lasts forever. It's a Duchaufour so, imo, it's fabulous.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/12/2019 21:09

SOTD Shay and Blue Salted Caramel after it was mentioned yesterday. So cosy!

Thanks for all the cat love. We don’t have our Christmas tree yet, but I expect this year’s antics will be equally entertaining. She doesn’t climb it (thank god!) but steals decorations and either kills them or thunders up and down the hall with them. Last year’s tree was rubbish and she was permanently covered in needles from lying underneath it.

MrsMoggs · 04/12/2019 23:46

Teta - Feel Unique had All Saints samples in their pick n mix last month. I liked the labdanum-heavy Incense City best; but it has limited staying power.

Blue - no, but I am intrigued about the Zara collaboration having read the Sali Hughes article on Saturday. Reviews elsewhere look mixed.

Maud - not necessarily! I struck luck - patience is all...

Was clearing out earlier and found my bottle of the original Hot Couture (now called No.1). Sweet peppery raspberries on a musky-amber base. Not to my current taste, but more interesting than I remembered.

Lotsofpots · 05/12/2019 04:12

I'm so tired I keep forgetting to wear perfume. Why do I only birth children who don't sleep?!

mother I'm sorry your daughter is poorly, that sounds so stressful. And stinky it sounds like you're having a rough few weeks - if it were me i know I'd be projecting ALL my stress onto the bloody oven.

MrsM I was actually thinking when I read blue's posts "she wears raspberry Oudh to a baby group and hangs out in hotel chocolate cafes?! I need this woman to become my real life friend!"

(Note: I am writing this at 4am. There is every chance I have assigned the entirely wrong people to my comments above and maud is thinking "my daughter is fine, what is she on about?" Soz if so)

FFS. This is what I mean about being tired. Managed to confuse maud and mother. GO TO BASTARD SLEEP YOU ANNOYING BABY.

Sotd will be something light as I'm public facing today.
Possibly avon lbd

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 05/12/2019 07:46

lots Grin no worries, I had one of those too. People used to tell me that one day I'd be complaining that he sleeps too much...they were right!

Lotsofpots · 05/12/2019 08:42

Forgot to wear perfume again. SOTD is the lingering smell of the kids weetabix and the underground.

THIS!!! Hang in there Lots

no SOTD yet am too tired...... x

PS Think Mrs wanted to know this about Subime Blossom...The nose behind this fragrance is Bertrand Duchaufour.

MrsMoggs · 05/12/2019 13:10

Great review, Mother, thanks, love the idea of wood nymphs on a night out. Grin

Kali - thanks, now I know it's a BD I want to smell it even more! Will try and sniff it out over the weekend.

SotD is the not very seasonally appropriate Spring Jasmine.

FloraMacDonald · 05/12/2019 15:32

Great reviews Kali and Mother
Sorry so many of us are having a tough time of it at the moment. Hopefully things will improve for all of us soon.

SOTD Captured by Candlelight - it's just so lovely and comforting!

Stinkyeddie · 05/12/2019 20:19

My dr says its a heavy "viral load" this winter...

Ds2 seems ok. Need to get him his flu vaccine at some point...

I'm shattered. Always am lately :(
