I think we're on thread no 24 - appropriate for the upcoming advent fun!

Sotd 4160 over the chocolate shop

MotherOfDragonite · 17/12/2019 11:59

SOTD yesterday was Lattafa Oud Mood. I really love these Arabic perfumes, they are such amazing value and many of them really suit me.

SOTD today... the gorgeous Irreverent by Histoires de Parfums my first HdP sample, and one that I love so much thank you Boglins for such a thoughtful fabulous choice of advent perfume! (My review is up, btw)

teta · 17/12/2019 14:22

Cire Trudon 11 is Sotd. I'm getting Pine and Ambroxan with a waxy candle vibe which seems appropriate for this time if year. Anyone else got kids revising for mocks?I have two doing GCSE after xmas and am currently inhaling lots of chocolate to cope. I dare not weigh myself.

KaliforniaDreamz · 17/12/2019 15:39

Teta my DS did his mocks before xmas. bloody genius. (sorry) x

mother i have had some oil from Amazon i think it's the same company. can you suggest some you've iked? Hope you're doing ok, stressful time of year.

KaliforniaDreamz · 17/12/2019 15:45

lovely review today
love a bit of church and sex

Stinkyeddie · 17/12/2019 15:47

Ds1 did his in January this year...
Bloody stupid idea imo. Poor ds1 spent all xmas revising!
He only had xmas eve, xmas day and boxing day off.
If its any consolation, I think mocks sre worse than the real thing....the real exams are over 5 weeks!

KaliforniaDreamz · 17/12/2019 15:54

am a bit worried as DS did pretty well in mocks and is very blase about the whole thing.....

SOTD PP Tom Ford Noir it is lovely

teta · 17/12/2019 17:17

I'm worried because DD'S report is not good. She has to get 6× 8 & 9 to stay at her school . We have no back up plan. Hey ho. Am already having a Bailey's in my coffee.

Stinkyeddie · 17/12/2019 18:54

It's the time of year for it though teta!.

Lovely review:)

Sote AT incense extreme

Boglins · 17/12/2019 19:37

Lovely review Mother, I'm glad you liked it! Hope your little ones and you are on the mend now!

Sotd was All Saints Sunset Riot which is gorgeous but no longevity!

teta · 17/12/2019 22:41

Yes, Sunset Riot really doesn't last much beyond a couple of hours, however Baccarat Rouge lasts forever. The All Saints doesn't have that antiseptic edge though and becomes overly sweet on . DH really dislikes the Mfk. and says it smells like mouldy wood even though I love it.
@Mother a wonderful review and it sounds like you've really found your perfume groove. I hope your children are currently well and you are not too exhausted at the moment. There will be a halcyon stage between Infants and teenager for you hopefully😁.

MotherOfDragonite · 17/12/2019 22:56

Thank you everyone. I hate to say it but we are still not well -- DD1 still very tired with post-glandular fever fatigue, DD2 with a cough, and me with weird hip pain! It's been 10 weeks now so I very much hope we get a well deserved break over the Christmas holidays!

In the meantime, Irreverent has cheered me up immensely. It's the first HdP I've tried -- do any of you have other HdP favourites that you recommend??

MotherOfDragonite · 17/12/2019 22:57

teta, I remember getting a report like your DD's (eg not good!) before sitting my exams. I rather think it was intended to scare me into putting more effort in! It worked...

FloraMacDonald · 18/12/2019 07:34

Mother I don't wish to add to your worries, but it took me the best part of a year to get over glandular fever as a young adult. I'm sure medicine has improved in the last three decades, and it will be much quicker than that, but please don't expect her to be 100% by new year.
Flowers for you both.

KaliforniaDreamz · 18/12/2019 09:23

Liking today's review have always been curious about Agent Provocateur perfume.

Had a few too many xmas drinks last night so no SOTD yet. Ho Ho Ho.

KaliforniaDreamz · 18/12/2019 09:24

Irreverant sounds divine.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 18/12/2019 12:44

SOTD Chanel 19. I have a £100 JL gift card, what should I buy? I have a bit of a hankering for FM Iris Poudre, despite never having sampled it.

teta · 18/12/2019 13:02

Would you buy it without testing first @Judy? The 10 ml size is a good size to try. I prefer the Malle to Chanel No 19 which comes over a little chilly on me.
I ordered a bottle of Apercu EDP from an American website a few days ago not expecting much. As Apercu is sadly discontinued. But it was cheap enough to take a punt and the website reviews were good . It came labelled as organic olive oil 😁👍. It's absolutely perfect and very cinammony and oakmossy.
#Mother I think you may well be right about the Bad report . The trouble is they stress parents as well. The worse year of my life was my eldest applying for a very competitive uni course a couple of years ago. I'm not sure sure how this year will shape up in comparison.

KaliforniaDreamz · 18/12/2019 13:14

Judy you can buy me a bottle of Chanel no19 hohohaha

teta what is the Malle? can u linkie?
I am trying not to get too hung up on my DS's exams, after going through 11plus last year with my DD i am a bit over it all, what will be will be x
Srill no SOTD but might go with au Thé Vert by Bvlgari which i used to wear a lot pre kids and had completely forgotten about.

MotherOfDragonite · 18/12/2019 18:00

Flora, I'm definitely realising that it's going to take a lot longer for her to get over than I thought at first! It's really taken it out of her. I do feel very relieved to know what it is though.

Guys, if anyone happens to see Irreverent by Histoires de Parfums on sale at a good price anywhere, please message me! I'm obsessed with it!

MotherOfDragonite · 18/12/2019 18:02

SOTD was Captured by Candlelight layered over Commodity Gold (sadly discontinued).

Captured By Candlelight doesn't seem to last that well on me, but oh my goodness I love it so.

Has anyone else got the January Joy Box from 4160? I'm really excited for it! (I'm a January baby and my birthday always feels like a major anticlimax after the Christmas festivities)

Stinkyeddie · 18/12/2019 18:49

Yes! Me :)

Migraine has cancelled today :(

Just bathed and am now in pp by the fireplace

I'm going to order another big bottle of this. It's SO good ❤

Really busy 2 days coming up so 🤞 migraine stays away

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 18/12/2019 21:13

Mother - Scent City have a 15ml bottle of Irreverant for £40 with a 10% discount (so £36) - worth a go?

Scent City

Boglins · 18/12/2019 21:36

Thanks Kali Grin

Mother, the HdP's I love are Ernest Hemingway and Eugenie de Montijo but as we have opposite tastes you might want to avoid those!

Judy, I'd probably go one of the Chanel Exclusifs or a custom Guerlain. I love JL perfume hall

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 18/12/2019 21:51

I love HdP Outrecuidant. Wonderful spicy ginger, patchouli and tobacco, really divine. The peachy loveliness of 1969 and the sandalwood/rose of 1875 Mata Hari are also well worth checking out. I think HdP have some really fabulous fragrances (and Luca Turin agrees with me Wink)

Scent City do a fab discovery set for £25. I seem to remember eddie wasn't too impressed (iirc?) but I thought there were some crackers in there. And they put lots of freebies in too!

SOTD has been MG Fire. I need to wear this more often. Come the new decade year, I will definitely be streamlining the collection - far too many random blind buys. I need to accept that actually I only really, really love a relatively small proportion of my stash, and make my peace with that Grin
