Cornflowers and Oats Study

The Royal Fabergé Collection contains 26 flower studies, a number that no other Fabergé collection in the world can even begin to match. This study of cornflowers and oats is one of Fabergé’s most exquisite creations. It was purchased by Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary, respectively the mother and grandmother of the present Queen Elizabeth II (then Princess Elizabeth), on 27th June 1944. Queen Elizabeth described it as ‘a charming thing and so beautifully unwarlike’. The piece was purchased to cheer up Princess Elizabeth’s ‘shelter room’ at Buckingham Palace – hence the reference to ‘unwarlike’.

Oh God, that picture of the Grimaldis makes me think of THAT Horrible Histories song....!

My favourite Horrible Histories song is the one about Charles II I know the words off by heart (actually I probably know all the HH songs of by heart) and there's a episode of just the songs if anyone knows what the flip I'm on about is interested.

I remember seeing loads of Faberge stuff in Moscow many years ago. If I shut my eyes I can still see it.

Oh yes frugal watched Horrible Histories many a time in this house.
Tunes from kids tv programmes stay in your head for years...... I can still know all the words sing Balamory & Me Too years later.

If I ever win the Euromillions (suppose it would help I bought a ticket ) I'm going to start my Faberge collection.

If I'm having anything Faberge it's going to be an egg. I have a dream that I'll be one of those people on Antiques Roadshow one day who says "oh I found this at a car boot, only paid £2 for it, we've been keeping the cat treats in it" only to be told it's from the court of the last Tsar and worth a squillion quid

I know it's not hugely exciting but I do think Princess Sofia looks very chic in this black outfit. We're not spoilt with much royal fashion to chat about at the moment...

It's 2 years since H&M's engagement so they've put an amusing and hitherto unseen wedding photo up on IG. Great view of the neckline of her dress, it skimmed her shoulders perfectly.
