History would have been very different Seneca

JaimeBronde · 25/11/2019 14:35

It sounds like Lady Glenconner had a lucky escape although she may not have seen it like that at the time.
@SenecaFalls wasn't it also Lady Fermoy who orchestrated Diana into getting married to Charles?
Lady Fermoy also gave evidence against her own daughter Frances in the custody case for Diana & her siblings. Poor old Diana was devasted from being away from her Mother & I believe that's what contributed to the tricky relationship Diana & Frances Shand Kydd had.
It sounds that perhaps Diana subconsciously blamed her for abandoning her. Though that wasn't the case.
I don't like the sound of Lady Fermoy.

Changing subject did anyone have the 'Romantic Royal Marriages' book by Barbara Cartland? I had it as a child & used to love reading it.
Though I know now that at least a third of the marriages mentioned in it weren't happy or romantic.

I fecking love pidgin, great link there Curly!

JaimeBronde · 25/11/2019 14:48

That's brilliant of Charles, he likes to make an effort to do his speeches in the native tongue of which ever country he's in.

BertrandRussell · 25/11/2019 14:49

“ That's brilliant of Charles,”

Well. If your bar is pretty low.....

JaimeBronde · 25/11/2019 14:52

What's wrong in doing a speech in the native tongue of another country?
Welsh in Wales, French in France, Spanish in Spain.
Might be a crap speech, rubbish pronunciation etc. But at least he tried.

BertrandRussell · 25/11/2019 14:55

Nothing wrong with it at all. Hardly “brilliant” though. It’s something a lot of famous people do.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/11/2019 15:11

Mar and Fre are in Poland. The Polish first lady is very chic.

Ah right. I meant brilliant in the sense of it's a good idea & respectful of anyone to make a speech in the native tongue of the host country.

I think that's the trouble with words being written down on forums, any social media or texts, you don't see the person's face, tone of voice, behaviour or personality.
So we all read things in different ways.
As I'm a very optimistic & enthusiastic person I tend to use the word brilliant for many things that I think are good or a good idea or solution.
So obviously in real life if you knew me you would get the correct inference from what I wrote.

I think that's why Bertrand sometimes the odd poster here doesn't get your posts & thinks you are being argumentative.
I know you aren't as you come across as a person who thinks about things & sees all angles & likes to ask the questions that no one else does.
Like the child in The Emperors New Clothes who asked why the Emperor was naked.
(Mind you I would be that child too Grin)
I enjoy reading your posts.
I enjoy reading most of the different posts & posting styles on here.

peridito · 25/11/2019 16:26

That's a very thoughtful post JaimeBronde.Flowers

JaimeBronde · 25/11/2019 17:09

Thank you peridito

Back to the photo that Queen posted. Yes the Polish First Lady does look very chic.
Fred looks like Hottie H in that photo.
I'm just off to work out how they are related.
Will be back in 5 mins or 5 hours.....

BonnieBrooke · 25/11/2019 17:10

I went down a Lady Fermoy rabbit hole on Google.
I found out Diana is a first cousin of Jo Berry the peace and reconciliation campaigner. Her father was killed in the Brighton bombing. Sad

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/11/2019 17:16

Last time I went down a Diana google wormhole I found out she has a stepbrother who was a UKIP MEP and an aunt who's still alive at nearly 100!

Who are her step siblings QueenoftheAndals ?

PinkSun9 · 25/11/2019 18:28

Diana had 4 step siblings from Raine's first marriage to Earl of Dartmouth.

I love that Beulah dress! Seasonal velvet too.

Bellevu · 25/11/2019 18:56

Bought my mum (the actual royalist Blush) the Lady Glenconner book. Although I'm going to find a way to borrow it after Christmas Wink

MotherofPearl · 25/11/2019 19:00

I like the Polish First Lady's look and I love that velvet dress in the more recent photo of CPM. She really suits those berry colours.

StartupRepair · 25/11/2019 19:16

Yes just coming in to say Mary looks so much better in deep colours than washed out beige.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/11/2019 19:23

Max in Pakistan

Disappointingly drab outfit given its Max and Pakistan

Royal style: fewer new frocks, more old rocks
QueenOfTheAndals · 25/11/2019 19:39

Max's dress looks like what my DC wore for the school nativity play last Christmas! But she's there in her role as a UN finance advocate (or something like that) rather than as Queen so maybe she's keeping it low key.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/11/2019 19:51

I thought she looked business like.
(A bit of colour would not have gone amiss though)

William and Harry in cute matchy matchy outfits as children

Was this a royal thing in the 80s as Fergie used to do it with Bea and Eugenie
