In light of the several upcoming engagements for W&K while H&M allegedly take a 6 week break!

@IfWishesWereFishes - exactly what I thought! And the big soft clutch looks like a wash bag - looks like she's heading off to clean her teeth Grin

DevonUkelele · 20/11/2019 00:40

It's not clear in the other pic, but that's a pantsuit Cams is wearing!

Also, here she is chatting with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, who sang at Charles and Di's wedding. That's not awkward at all.

Here's Camia in some serious bling! Maybe they wear it all the time when Joe Public can't see. Not good optics in times of austerity ...

Wow the Duchess of Wellington totally looks like Steph Lux!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2019 06:58

Duchess of Wellington - one there’s a title!
Fabulous jewels.

I like Camilla’s outfit even more. That’s a pantsuit which I could get down with.

Wetdogloveshubert · 20/11/2019 07:02

Wow, thanks @justasking111 for that link. Mary knew how to wear bling! And look at the corsetry that must have been worn here.

The Duchess of Wellington is also descended from royalty IIRC, as she's a princess of Prussia. An empty title these days of course, but I think she's a great-granddaughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II.

** Wetdogloveshubert

That’s a beautiful parure (check me out using the fancy name!)

I think Kate should have an evening gown made from a berry coloured velvet and wear those jewels.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2019 07:15

@QueenOfTheAndals

Yes I googled her, she has quite the pedigree.
She is a Guinness on her mother’s side.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2019 07:15

Queen Mary was never a beauty like her MiL but she certainly knew how to wear jewels. Most women would look overwhelmed by all that bling but not her!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2019 07:18

This would be the perfect way for Kate to wear some of those necklaces in her hair.
She loves a headband and wearing her hair down. WinWin!

Stunning photo of Madeleine! She and CPV can carry off rocks and tiaras like no others.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2019 07:32

Madeleine reminds me a bit of Princess Margaret in that she looks like she was born to be a queen, not a number 2! Or a 3, in her case.

CPM has a couple she could borrow.

That's right Queen Princess Antonia von Preussen, Duchess of Wellington being the the last Kaiser's great granddaughter.
Antonia is also in the line of succession to the British throne through her descent from Queen Victoria's daughter, Victoria, Princess Royal.

Has anyone been watching Princess Margaret The Rebel Royal? It was on BBC4 at 8pm last night.
I only caught the last 20 minutes but it was very interesting.
Someone said threads ago that it was a pity Margaret wasn't born in the 1880s/90s (instead of 1930) as she'd have made an excellent Queen, Crown Princess or Grand Duchess in another royal family.

Do you think so? I think power in the hands of PM would have been a very dangerous thing!

JaimeBronde · 20/11/2019 09:05

I think they meant that in the sense of Margaret's grandeur etc.
Don't know if she'd have been a good Queen or not, but people seemed to warm to her (when Margaret was younger) as she was very charismatic.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 20/11/2019 09:12

But also very quixotic. You wouldn't want to find yourself on the wrong side of her.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2019 09:32

I think Margaret suffered from a lack of something to do. Had she been a queen or grand duchess in a foreign land then this wouldn't have been a problem. She strikes me as a fundamentally unhappy woman who could've used a proper purpose in life. She was also very young when her father died - perhaps if he'd lived a longer life then she would've been more stable.

OP posts:
IfWishesWereFishes · 20/11/2019 11:20

Fundamentally unhappy due to lack of a purpose in life strikes me as something we see quite often in the RF.

My republican tendencies are strong today!

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2019 11:25

True @IfWishesWereFishes but to be fair to Margaret, it wasn't the done thing when she was young for a royal woman to go out and get an education or a job like the way Beatrice or Eugenie have. I mean, their jobs seem to involve inordinate amounts of holiday but at least they're doing something!

OP posts:
Disfordarkchocolate · 20/11/2019 11:49

I think all the royal need to find purpose and focus on that or else it's very easy to look aimless. The Prince's Trust, Invixtus, DoE Awards, the Cambridge's mental health and early years work. I don't think this was open to Margaret.

RomaineCalm · 20/11/2019 11:51

Just come over here to recover from accidentally stumbling into the 'should Kate wear nail varnish' thread.

Congratulations to the Queen and Prince Philip - 72 years today!!!

Not good optics in times of austerity ..

Yes, I was thinking this^^ actually. Maybe the choice for Kate to have a slightly more austere look, with no jewellery and a darker dress etc, was deliberate.

BertrandRussell · 20/11/2019 12:30

I hate this idea of the royals adopting an austere image. Everyone knows they are insanely rich- surely it’s more patronising to pretend otherwise? All this “they are just like us” bollocks. I want them all abolished. But while they are here, I want proper royalty with gold carriages and heaps of jewels and the poshest of frocks. Oh, and gossip. I want my money’s worth!
